OIL I hope I'm not tempting fate here, but my 1995 VR6 with 97K miles on it is the only car I've owned in 32 years which sheds not one drop of oil onto the floor. I did read somewhere that this engine is generally remarkably leakproof (oil). PETROL There should be no smell of fuel whatsoever if everything is in order. The local VW garage discouraged my son from driving away in the car when he took his 94 VR6 into them, complaining of a smell of petrol. Indeed the pressurised fuel delivery pipes do seem prone to failure after a few years in that very hot engine compartment. Clearly there is a high risk of fire if even a pinhole leak sprays a mist of petrol around under the bonnet.

Seven weeks ago fuel filter for my VR6 was £7.74 including VAT and with 10% discount from local VW garage. (Cant call my parts man at this garage a stealer!)

"Well, thanks for sharing all that with the group guys."

I could not do anything with my car after putting in a new battery without the alarm going off, deafening me and irritating the neighbours. The AA man was foxed, too, saying these were the worst things known to man, he said he spent more time on problems with them than anything else. I had to have the car transported by Relay to a VW dealer for their autoelectrician to fix. Faulty module of somekind - I decided to have the alarm removed totally and not replaced. I only have an imobiliser now - Bliss! The sodding things are not worth the security they give on a 9-year old car.

Good call dr mat - AFM??

My son's VR6 had a loss of coolant which was difficult to trace as no obvious drips/wetness. Eventually found to be a crack in the plastic reservoir. Worth checking anyway. PS - I can't watch your programs Borat - they make my toes curl!

Let's know where you found the chafing wires Lloydieboy79 - us other 1995 VR6 owners will know where to look if we get your problem in about a year's time! Thanks in advance.

Chubbz said as for fogs....in Scotland its an offense, just like rear fogs. 100m visability ?cant afford a cracked foggy anyway and I only have one spare. Professional driver talking sense, there. When I worked in the Met Office in Glasgow, I remember a couple of phone calls from whining posers who were being charged by the police for driving with fog lights on when not required. Owners of flash, high-performance cars (one a top Merc) who do not bother to familiarise themselves with the law, deserve the grief. Visibilities of less than 100 metres in fog are relatively rare in Scotland - they are, almost certainly, more of a hazard in patchy fog in the more extensive flat and low lying districts of England, e.g. Vale of York. IMO heavy and blowing snow at sub-zero temperatures and torrential rain causing HGV spray will merit the use of foglights more often in Scotland - but remember, the police will delight in booking you up here if they catch you with them switched on needlessly. PS I believe the front fogs on the C "burn too hot" (another VW design shortcoming) so you may risk needing to fork out for an expensive replacement just for feeling the need to look cool!

My VR6 Storm was a trade-in at a Skoda garage 2 years ago. The owner of the Storm (95k miles/7years) traded it in for an Octavia RS. This is offthread but may be of interest, too. In June 1995 he traded in his Jan 1993 Scirroco GT2 with 33k miles for the new Storm. He got £6500 for the Scirroco and the Storm cost £24474 including mats, window etching, etc. I know all this because with the Corrado he handed over to the Skoda garage a box file holding (probably) every bit of paper concerning the car, and I inherited the box file with the C.

Any idea where this valve is Henny? When I changed over to Samco hoses I found that there was a constriction in the original hose leading to the heater. It was a plastic thing which merely reduced the bore - there were no moving parts. To be on the safe side, i secured a similar-bored cylindrical piece of metal into the Samco hose to act as the constriction, but I never understood what the original narrrowing of the hose was for.

I dont think there is any need to worry - I added Redex thro' the plug 'oles many years ago - you do get an embarassing amount of smoke belching out. I thought the neighbours would be over to tell me off it was so bad!

My garage (not VAG) broke heater matrix pipe when fitting Samco hoses. They said the pipe was brittle plastic and they were normally used to metal ones. They replaced the matrix for a new one but charged me cost price for it. I had instructed them to put the Samco hoses on "really tight" so thought that was fair enough. Any , y'all remember the matrix pipes may be plastic.

Interesting point Dan, Why does that happen? I cant make up my mind whether to put the K&N panel filter back on or not. Someone told me the original paper one is still best for avoiding problems but Im not too clear why.

vr6storm Sorry - I actually love the area, as I do most rural areas of the UK. I always thought the generation younger than me prefer a crueller type of humour. My folks are from Blairgowrie and Dundee so there's plenty of scope for ribbing there - at least from Scots who know about these places. It will be interesting to see if our friends in Manchester, Liverpool and Wales are as touchy. I always think the variety of regional stereotypes in our small countries are an endless source of amusement, but would prefer not to deeply offend anyone when making remarks.

Honda Civic Type R. Mini Cooper S. Triumph TR6.

Millionaire farmers in that area - combine harvesters with gps, etc. I knew the son of one - he was so stingy tho' that he ran his early Golf diesel on "red" fuel from the farm. Lewis Grassic-Gibbons novels were set in the area (The Mearns) - lots of weirdo country characters. Maybe some inbred twerp will buy!

Speaking of grommets, when I had picked up the junk lying on the floor of the 1993 Polo I bought for my daughter a couple of weeks ago, I found a rubber grommet and a plastic Grommet . Spooky, eh?

I am a retired meteorologist - after 37 years with a well-known national organisation. I am still doing a bit of forensic meteorology for lawyers. (Reports/court attendances involving slipping accidents/rta, etc - anything where the weather/ground conditions may be in dispute. Even did reports for murder cases and one for a case involving an accountant who, in the poor light of a rainy morning, took an axe to a protected tree he disliked! That was south of the border, though - you've got to make allowances for peculiar national traits. Worked at Bracknell (as did editor of VW Driver who recently admitted to working in same weather org.) Fife (2 places), Kinloss (favourite!), Prestwick (2nd favourite) and both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports and town offices. Corrado purchase 2 years ago ate well into my retirement lump sum - you will all understand, though.

Look forward to seeing you on the road! I am only 7 miles away in Linlithgow - Classic green Storm. The blower on the £250 Polo I bought for my daughter last week only works on full blast but I believe the problem is easily and cheaply solved on both Corrado and Polo. Best regards

Mine is steady at about 750. thanks kevh - After 97K my ISV was dry with no oil - merely a fine powdering of what looked like carbon, and easy to clean. I wonder if it will get oily now that the filter you talk about is gone? Doesnt matter I suppose, as the ISV is easy to get to for cleaning (thanks to the info from you guys).

This valve is MISSING on the Samco replacement hose. I have not found any problems, in fact I thought the car ran better on a regular 130 mile round trip on the M90 getting my best mpg yet of 32.1 with my VR6 on Monday. Can any of the experts tell me whether the valve is actually needed? Is it merely a neurotic environmentalists idea? Will running the car with the plain Samco hose which dispenses with all the gubbins on the original VW hose (the one that perished away on ShockVR6's engine) ultimately cause a problem? I have asked this question another way once before on the forum but no-one answered it. So fellas, I should be very grateful if you could please give me the benefit of your extendulous knowledge.

For what its worth, when I finally fitted the last 2 Samco hoses of the kit of 7, there was no deterioration whatsoever in the car's performance - eg stalling or lowering idling speed.
