I'd think that if you've seen a spark, then a live wire is grounding out on something. Did it blow a fuse?
-
The blue wire you refer to (blue/grey IIRC) is a speed pulse output from the instrument cluster, that was used to automagically increase the volume on the standard stereo as you drove faster. If you've wired that up, you will have driven that from the head unit, and most probably damaged the instrument cluster. I did the very same on mine, however, it was only the spoiler control that was effected. Have you tried just disconnecting that wire yet? It may 'fix' all the other problems apart from the spoiler. I know that the circuitry on the instrument clusters do vary between models, and mine was a 1993 2.0l 16v. What model do you have?

We had a similar experience when looking for a mk3 VR. Went to look at a 'highline' in High Wycombe. Asked if it was free of rust and a genuine highline. The seller said it was in excellent condition. I asked again about rust on the rear wheel arches and sills. He assured me there was none. So after 1 3/4hour drive, we get there. The seller wasn't even there, just his Dad, who knew nothing about the car. And guess what. Rust. And not just a little bit either. ALL FOUR arches were properly rotten! And to top it all off, it wasn't even a proper highline. Why do people do it. It's not as if I'm going to buy it, just because I've had to drive 80 miles to see it. Cnut!
-
I reckon some rolling might be a good idea though, even if it's just on the rear.
-
Looks good already! Have the arches been rolled, dude?
-
I would think that's fairly noticeable?

Haha! Sorry Alex, I hope I haven't taken over, I've been kinda bored at home. I've been off work for over two weeks with Glandular Fever, so anything to break up the monotony is a bonus!

Bloody hell, I've never seen them before. I would think that they are driven by a pre-amped signal. How many pins are there on each speaker/amp unit?
-
Haha! You could add the years, and colours

I suppose the only real comparison you can draw, is a before and after on the same dyno, but even then, atmospheric conditions and heat soak can make a substantial difference. After spending some time trying to calibrate, from scratch, a new diesel engine controller (at work), calibration is a very fine art and takes an awful lot of time to get right!
