Just got my oil temp sender refitted today: was sitting at around 100-104 in traffic today. What is the norm? also, had oil change and they put in Shell Helix (I assume semi) Is this correct??
-
What pressure should I have on 205/45/16 ? (front and back)
-
vr6storm: it was the roundabout beside woolmanhill/denburn :) I still blame it on oil on the road ;) What should the tyre pressures be front and back? edit: just noticed the thread 'tyre psi' hehe

One other reason I reckon is the fact that the C handles that well it doesnt seem like your going that fast and it CAN handle corners with pace....the result is that its very easy to nip round them at speeds you shouldnt so pushing it a bit more to means you are going far to quick :) it seems more like it rwd or something...I find it very odd. I cant see it understeering. Anyone else think this?
-
hehehe sounds almost exactly like what I did :) The C seems a strange beastie, it seems to handle much better if you just kinda have faith in it and give it a bit more power. It seems to be when holding back it becomes unbalanced, ie/ no continous power rouind corners. The golf never once gave me the impression the tail was gonna go, it just would slide out in a wide arch, the C seems to be quite ready to flick out the tail when not careful. Altho I guess its putting out a good 40bhp more than the good old golf  Think I need some coilovers :)

Not so sure...round a roundabout this afternoon I put mine into a slide! lol...it was pretty stupid of me was pushin it a bit, altho I really did not feel like it was gonna give. I still reckon the surface maybe had oil or something, although it also could have been that I took my foot of the accelerator right before it twitched. ended up doing a little powerslide and controlled it reasonably well....the womans face coming out the exit I was going to was priceless....I think she got as a big a shock as I did. I was goin sideways towards her then snapped back on track. Felt like a right tit after that and drove off sheepishly :) Its just not in me to be proud of that hehe :) Need to get more used to the powersteering...my mk2 had no PAS and was lowered 50mm. Handled incredible but more so becuase you could feel everything so well. Still, corrado is so much sharper especially at speed Still as I was saying to Roddy and Brian the other night, its good to have done as I know wknow what to expect ;)

HELP. Why is insurance going up again...Any ideas on cheaper
munkay replied to GazzaG60's topic in General Car Chat
http://www.elephant.co.uk I still cant get over how cheap they are. 400 quid fully comp on G60. Garaged, Cat1 decent post code. Still good tho -
yeah reckon so..for the record this weekend coolant temp seemed to be around or just below the mid black line (70 iirc) most of the time then slightly above in town/traffic. Seem to have thrown this thread off track a little...best let others reply with there mileage..which seems to be really low with vr6 and progressivly higher the lower the cylinder capacity ;p
-
Was not at al bad actually fuel wise...was getting about 300 mile to 30 quid easy. Better than the golf. That was on normal unleaded to. I used to use optimax before, should the C run better with it as well? I definitely got better mpg and smoother/quicker response with it in the golf
-
Drive it more and stop waxing it! ;) also...I meant to add 37 mpg av for trip of 200 miles :D

Got mine on Thursday with 104,100 91 spec G60 J plate Now just 50 shy of 105,000 :D Had a great drive over weekend tho...was literraly amazed at how much better handling was then golf gti :) And also enjoyed burning off several celicas/bmws that wanted to drive from my back seat :D The G60's 0-60 etc times MUST be wrong...8.7?? they fairly fly Noticed tonight that front discs have been uprated too...they are grooved ones :)
-
yeah gf mentioned it to them on the phone and they seemed fine :)
-
I take all the history along with next week when I show you the car ;) You can have a good look about. Is the oil temp mfa reading not working a common thing? The coolant temp etc seems fine
-
hehe yeah fingers crossed :) I just noticed it has a new Ecu unit at 300 quid from early last year
-
It actually made me wary at first because of how much he sold it to me for. I think he was glad to see it go to someone into VW's...unless of course its gonna go horendously wrong next week ;) I shouldn't joke  :)
-
ah just found the sheet....it says 138 bhp at the wheels = 162 bhp at the wheels. must mean flywheel in the second one then. still sounds good. Got it for 2300 which I reckon was really good. He has had new clutch/distributor/suspension/brakes...wheels..exhaust...bearings...cv's...electric checks...etc.. etc... all within 10 months done at Hawco and decent VAG places :)
-
it has induction kit...s/s exhaust with cat removed and thats it as far as I am aware. I will have another read throught the history later. He went through it all bit by bit with me which was handy. He obviously had a fair bit of cash so he hadnt spared expense on it :)
-
Hehe...yeah already done the walking away thing a few times. Am not sure aboutt he charger being doen...it has VAG/German history but I/he was not sure if it had been done. He has had it checked over tho and said it was in good nick and strong. I have budgeted to have it done soon anyway ;) The belts etc have all been done fairly recently anyways and there was no oil kicking about. It's bloody loud tho...induction kit and 5" round exhaust...looks nice but it scares children Gotta love the spoiler :)

Went to see the car again today and had a good look round. Car is absolutely spot on...I can see it being kept for a long time :) I'll get some pics up when next week as the guy I bought from has set it up really nicely. I was pretty amazed by the handling and more so the speed compared to the 8v gti :) Was told it wasn't FSH but the car has 100k and history goes up to when he bought it around 87k from which point there is a mass of repairs he has chosen to do worth a lot of money. He had a full s/s decat system put on late in 2002 and has a rolling road print out from december showing 163bhp at the wheels 8) Only one thing was really wrong and that was the oil temp doesnt register on the MFA altho he has told me what it is and shouldnt be hard to fix. Have given it a good 2-3 hours of driving and can not see or hear anything untoward so I am pretty chuffed :) Guy even said that if I have any problems or anything to give him a phone..top bloke. (And cheers for your advice vr6storm....will meet up next week to let you see the car ;) )
-
I was tempted by that vr6 for 3795 or so on autotrader... seems to good to be true tho..Guy said it was a Storm on the phone but when I asked if there were the badges etc saying storm in the cabin he said no. click here Not bad miles and FSH tho :/
-
Its an early J ...no ABS Are the belts available as a VAG part so garage should eb able to replace without dismantling charger etc..? How much do you charge for a basic rebuild a pd-motorsport, including VAT and carriage, and whats the likely turnaround?
-
I am well up to speed with general stuff and engine things due to having a mk2 8v gti so hopefully I can be sorted for that side of things. Its basically the charger etc I am new to. Is it pretty wuick/easy to take of the outlet pipe? I do intend to get the charger done pretty quickly but probably not for maybe 2000-3000 miles. Is this gonna be pushing it even if it seems clean?? I hear of some lasting 150miles quite regularly...altho I in know way mean to do this myself ;) Thing is I am up north so I have to send it down to them and get a garage up here to remove / send / refit it for me. I would not be thrashing the tits off it at all ..but I know if I dont get it done asap I will be driving about WAITING for it to blow. Mind you if it blows in that time then I guess it musta been pretty knackered in the first place and not worth a rebuild. oh and one last thing...what exactly happened when the seals blew? :)
-
Yeah I am only to familiar with door membranes..just got mine sorted 2 weeks ago on the golf ;) I am thinking about 500 quid for a stage 4 overhaul as its about 475 for a normal rebuilt (at jabba). Then adding about 150 for costs of getting garage to remove it - send it - and re fit it. (altho I have resently noticed PD-motorsports (sic?) coudl possibly do the work for less...correct me if i am wrong :D ) So about 650-700 quid for the work? sound right? Is having this done gonna basically eliminate the main cost/reliabilty problem from the C? (for a good few thousand miles anyway :) ) How are the intercoolers for problems/cost?
-
I am kinda reluctant to get an expensive AA check as they are so similar o the golf I am fairly confident about checking it out. (famous last words :) ) Is there anything to look for externally on the charger? or is the only real test to look in the intake for oil
