  1. Also, Ken Lark spent a hell of alot more money on that corrado race car than anyone with just a track car would ever dream about. I heard a rumoured £80K from a few of the vw competitors. Thats the same as my mortgage! Im sure you could stick to grooved 288mm discs but with say Hi-spec (or similar) 4pot calipers, motul RBF600 or similar racing brake fluid, good brake cooling ducts, brake bias control and decent race pads. Surely that could effectively stop (for a track day goer) on 15"s *8s decent contact patch for tyre on a VR6 lightened to say 1000kg - 1050kg. And thats not going into suspension setup, elimination of front end dive under braking, etc
  2. Anyone's on here? They say its a golf turbo... lol. Its in dave walkers clinic bit page 97.. Blue (i think) Corrado on polished TT wheels, R32 Turbo with 500bhp running through the front wheels!
  3. Midnight Blue G60 in the US of A!! Ridgecrest, CA, turned right onto China Lake Blvd at Walgreens today at 5pm. I know it'll be a long shot if it's anyone's on here but hey it's my first corrado spot in the USA!! Got well excited, sat at traffic light and started honking the horn and whooping out the window, so american, lol. Had so many funny looks, i was in pooey Jeep rental car aswell, hehe. Lowered on G60 BBS wheels and booting it! HAPPY DAYS!
  4. Unlucky mate! Always sad to have your C written off when its not your fault, I know the feeling. What are your plans now, should be able to buy it back and reshell even better with the money you'd get from the insurance company and legal for your whiplash.
  5. Nice work mate! Almost like a caterpillar into a butterfly, :salute: :D
  6. Nice idea to start with the engine first then get the car, always gives you a goal to aim for, although if your going turbo anyway soon, wouldn't it be better to leave the majority of the engine alone as you'll only have to redo another block for lower comp pistons (or stock 9A with stacked HGs) and lose other items such as the 4 branch and inlet manifold and TB. Just a thought, as its a credit crunch build, therefore avoiding twice the cost in rebuilding twice. Hope it go well though and all the best. :D
  7. Had the black racer kept in the motorsports club at woodhall whilst doing a full rebuild and up spec, til I mothballed it to buy a house. Had a green wide arch caged up green mk2 polo g40 on base though (the one in pvw mag polo shootout), and ran around in Richie k's old white G40 for a while, when he had his toy-yawn-ota. I was on crash gate 5 when I saw you, cant remember when though. Think you'd not had it long though. Im on 41sqn. I use a sh@tbox astra diesel (the thunderbus i call it) i got for £400, still using it 3years later and ive put 75,000 miles on it, lol (75mile round trip a day). My next corrado project will be a 2l 16v turbo track day car so my sacrifice is not having a decent daily car. Really good to see what its like now, proper transformation! Really nice g60. Im sure you'll find the love again, just go have a drive! Good luck on whatever you decide. Do you know Jim Bucanen-Smith then at the AWC, he got his tapes and went there from our place about 2- 2 1/2years ago.
  8. Shame mate, surely you can just buy a cheapo diesel runabout and use the Home to Duty to your advantage. Looks really nice now, I remember seeing it when you were still on 6 when it was pretty stock. Made me miss my rado even more, grrr... lol.
  9. Coolant temp sensor gone? Due to it happening once its past cold start temp, putting ECU into safe mode . Although thought this would show up on diagnostic check.
  10. Oh and he found getting financial sponsership hard at the time. Most places would offer replacement panels etc for free, and some minor parts, brake pads etc etc free. But trying to find someone that would sponsor us to say buy the tyres every race weekend or something along those lines was hard. He was an engine builder so any engine work was done himself, but anything else, say a paintjob etc was done by contacts he had that say they needed an engine built, he'd build them the engine in return for a free paintjob, etc.
  11. I was pitcrew for my mate who raced in the VW Cup and also later the TRC Championship in the South East in a white G40 polo. It was still very expensive, even though he bought a ex champ winning G40 cup racer from Peter Studer with a load of spares. The cost of running was well over a grand for the weekend for the VW Cup, although the TRC championship was alot cheaper in term of entry fee's. To stay competitive, the car was constantly being upgraded, power, brakes, chassis. But this was a novice driver, albeit with lots of 'track day' experience. To show an example, Peter Studer could go round Snetterton in a 130bhp G40 Cup Racer in low 1min23s, whereas my mate with the same car ,180bhp, big brakes, better chassis etc only managing 1min27s. The TRC Championship had 4 classes in it but a varied difference of cars, from pugs, escorts to space frame contraptions and EX wrc Escorts and V8 Mercs. Low entry fee's were key to this champ being good, but people who had money always had the better car, for instance we were class C (1.6 - 2l - charged G40 counts as 2l) and we were always finish 2nd in class, never 1st in class as the guy who won the class had a pug 306 with a longman ex touring car engine that he bought for 15grand and was running 280bhp - still technically a 2litre engine that 'came' with the car originally so he always beat us. Most people who are Pitcrew, are volunteers, and do it for the love and rush of it, I did and had a brill time. He only paid his mate, John Haycock (Haycock Motorsport) for the weekend as he was the main fixer and looker after of the car. Find a championship that is low cost, find an ex racer and research the championship to make sure that you wont be on the back foot straight away and having to spend a fortune to get the car competitive. Do a proper budget of everything you reckon it'll cost you for the season for fuel, tyres fees etc, and have this budget/funds in place before you start racing. then have a back up fund for repairs/upgrades. The cost of motorsport is always what seems to be the issue, seen loads of teams enter the first couple of rounds then as the season continues and draws to a close, they've all pulled out due to cost. Then go out and have fun!
  12. it was going to be AWD but i think it'll be sticking with FWD. Think a FWD BTCC car (but DTM styled), that'll be what it'll be like. I think the reason not to go 4wd from an Audi is that it is only mechanically 4wd and not fully electronic 4wd, i.e. its not a 'proper 4wd system' (what Mike T said) as the audi uses TCS to control the torque distribution so you'd have to use the full Audi wiring ecu and loom, even though the engine ECU is DTA, or the 4wd system be mapped itself. at least thats how i understand it, Mike Truelock at jabbasport is the one how said about it and why not to use it, he reckoned it'd be fine and still a top class A runner with FWD. Engine is all steel 2.0 20v turbo with an over boost function. The Discovery is a camera car apparently. The photos were taken off a ford RS2000 forum that the guy who made the rollcage works for.
  13. A few pics of my friend's Corrado with its new rollcage, just been fabricated to FIA spec. More of the spec is a 400-450bhp engine, alcon brakes, brent dog box, rear wing, 17" wheel and slicks, floor mounted pedal box, etc. Weight about 1000kg. Abit behind schedule to start this season's racing in April but it'll be out at some point in the TRC this year. Bad quality pics, (not taken by me) but you can see where it goes. Edit: Pics thumbnailed - dinkus
  14. Top Pics Envy! 8) Makes me want another Corrado badly! i think those pics definately disprove the Corrado's are for poof's threads that have cropped up on ClubGti and Edition38 Forums.
  15. You mean these? SP Performance Centre
