  1. Now this is really weird I let the petrol tank run nearly empty before filling up and all the odd running and misfires have now completely disappeared. I thought perhaps I was imagining that the problem had got better but it's been well over a week now and the car is definately back to normal. I haven't done anything to the car other than fill it up with petrol. It was misfiring on the way to the petrol station then after filling up it was smooth all the way home (20 miles) and has stayed that way ever since (another 200 miles or so). I know you can get dodgy petrol but both this time and just before the trouble started I filled up at Shell which I thought is supposed to be one of the better makes. So there you go - if your car starts acting wierd all of a sudden give it a few weeks before spending time and money replacing parts because it might just be the petrol......
  2. I'm starting to wonder if my problem is coolant or air temperature related. Since the misfire first appeared I've noticed that on initial cold start my VR gradually churns into life instead of bursting into life like it normally does and immediately following cold start it runs slightly lumpy whereas before is was nice and smooth. After 2 minutes or so everything settles down and it appears to be back to normal - i.e. smooth idle and running, no misfire, no apparent lack of power UNTIL I get stuck in traffic after a run and the under bonnet temp gets quite high - then the misfire will reappear causing power loss/missing below 2K RPM. When it does this it's almost like an old car with too much choke. Once it gets moving again and temps get back to normal misfire dissapears could it be the coil failing when it gets too hot? or is it blue temp sender?
  3. Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I also own a dizzy vr6 and it has developed identical symtoms just this morning :(
  4. That's good news - VW wanted £550 to do the job
  5. Well it's good that he's familiar with the pitfalls of the job - How much did it cost to have the rear bushes done by the way?
  6. That's good I'll have to pop in and see how much they'll think it will cost. Thanks for the info. I'm going for the standard bushes because while I've heard good things about the uprated bushes I want to retain a bit of compliance in the ride and it's harsh enough as things are already if you know what I mean.
  7. I was thinking about re-bushing my front suspension myself but now I've just found out that the rear axle bushes need doing too. I'm thinking of throwing the towel in and opening the chequebook, so can anyone recommend a VW specialist near Maidenhead? I live in Burnham so the closer to Burnham the better. Thanks
  8. Great! just what I expected..... It looks like it's gonna be another one of those Corrado "all or nothing" jobs :( I might as well do the top mounts and track rod ends at the same time and never worry about the front end again. Thanks for all the advice and info.
  9. Is it possible to change the wishbone rear bushes without removing the wishbone from the car? If this can be done then I can avoid the chance of the bolt breaking inside the captive nut.
  10. Thanks for the advice, I think I will have a go at doing this myself then. Will I need any special tools/unusual socket sizes other than a ball joint splitter to do the job? Is it possible to get penetration fluid into the captive nut or is it inaccessable?
  11. My initial thoughts were that it might be rear wishbone bushes too. Is it quite an easy job to do? remember doing the same job on my old Scirocco and that was a doddle but I've been fed scare stories about the pivot bolt seizing and so requiring a new subframe = instant cashflow situation! How true is this and should I just go ahead and order new wishbones and lower ball joints and spend a saturday afternoon fitting em?
  12. I was looking through the report that VW gave me when they did a service last year and it mentions than the "Front lower Platform rear bushes are starting to split". Where are these bushes then? on the wishbones or subframe maybe, I just don't know :? ?? How big a job is it replace these bushes as VW qoute £227.40 for the job and I'm quite keen to do it myself if it saves some much needed cash.
  13. I saw that car go and it was truly awe inspiring. It was the kind of speed where everyone just went silent and looked at each other as if they couldn't quite believe what they had just seen.
  14. How not to drift. http://www.flurl.com/uploaded/BMW_Drifting_641.html
  15. I remember doing this job on my Scirocco and it wasn't too much fun either. Does the Corrado have a captive nut that the front pivot bolt screws into just like the Scirocco? The reason I ask is that I remember crapping myself that I would cross thread it or the nut would become un-captive :) if you know what I mean, and would then require the services of someone handy at welding.
  16. How easy is it to change the ball joints and wishbones?
  17. might be the inner CV joints
  18. Yep - it's circular like a metal version of a large chocolate button :)
  19. Don't make the same mistake I did. Had the same symptoms, spending at least a couple of hours checking all the usual culprits without stopping to check the blindingly obvious. Turned out to that the ignition barrel was springing back past its normal running position because it was old and worn out. :)
  20. It's horrible! totally ruined the balance of the car. What a miserable effort. SACRILEGE!!

    Pinking!!!

I take it that you've already checked for obvious stuff like induction leaks.
