  1. If the charger was last serviced in 2000 then the car has prob done a lot of miles since then. I hope you got the car cheap mate as I would have budgeted another £400 for a decent rebuild and porting i.e. at G-Werks before I paid any money :) If the boost had been checked using the MFA then any probs with charger should have been clear etc, i.e lack of boost. I would NOT drive the car until you are sure that any debris has been cleared out of the charger pipes, IC piping, IC itself etc (very important to do this thoroughly). Another forum member on here has a BahnBrenner Motorsport screw / Lysholm charge on their Corrado. I believe they are quite loud but produce decent boost etc. The exchange rate is good at moment so you could get a good deal, however, I believe some people have had problems getting bits from these guys. Also you will need to pay import duty (and considerable carriage) on the charger, unless you "arrange" with "someone" to have the goods marked as "samples".

What I would suggest doing is talking to G-man on this forum who runs a company called G-Werks who specialise in all aspects of G60 tuning and charger servicing / rebuilding / reconditioning etc. They may also be able to source a replacement G60 charger for you, at a cheaper price than sourcing a lysholm charger,

    Cheers and best of luck,

  2. Hey all,

Reckon there are some pretty sick people out there :? :x

Not at all impressed by these stories and comments by people who have run over or seen animals (esp. cats) being run over, nothing to be proud of or have a laugh about at all :(

    Regards,

  3. Hey all,

It would appear I am lucky enough to be still able to get hold of these badges. Would people be interested in a group buy in bulk from my local dealership ? Just trying to gauge interest. Normal price is £9.31 + VAT each but could get 10 % discount to forum members, poss. more if I play cards right. If this proves popular, could mod's make this thread a sticky please?

    Regards,

  4. Hey all,

Does anyone know where I can get a new front spoiler from, not sure which size would be best but need it to complete my replacement front bumper as the original spoiler has seen better days. Cheap as possible would be good,

    Cheers,

  5. Yeah, have driven one of these before (ok it was boosted to 270 BHP), make no mistake they are quick cars, fast and reasonable handling etc. in fact the plod used to use them as pursuit vehicles, 204 BHP as standard and 4 wd, not very reliable though and 4wd system used to eat transfer boxes all the time. At the end of the day it's still a Vauxhall and not all that exclusive,

  6. Right then, let's think about this,

Average loss between power at crank / flywheel and power at wheels is roughly 10 % of 245 BHP is 24.5 plus give or take 10 BHP = roughly 35 BHP loss so would expect around 210BHP at wheels, therefore around 22 BHP loss (certainly not 70 BHP) by running very wide wheels (which increase drag considerably) and possibly a worn gearbox is pretty reasonable.

The key way of telling exactly how much a difference running my car on wide rims made to the RR figures would be to run / have run the car using standard 6.5 x 15" rims. However, I didn't have a set at the time the company was tuning my car,

    Cheers,

  7. Well lets see now...,

I have RR printout's for my G60 which quote 245.5 BHP (crank) and 200.5 ft/lbs torque (177.8 BHP at wheels), and that was before I had the boost return kit installed and was running 9 x 16" wide-ass wheels when on the dyno and poss. dodgy gearbox. I would say 200 BHP at the wheels (when on standard 15" rims) is a good estimate at the moment. However, I have some other mods planned which will hopefully produce quite a bit more power and much more torque when they are all completed. Watch this space...,

    And BTW...,

    Quote:

I see the fantasy RR league is alive and kicking.

    240bhp with 190lbft comes out at 6634RPM - on an 8v G60?

Must be one of those VTEC G60's or more likely the RR operator dialled in a shed-load of "transmission loss".

(I wouldn't say this too loudly if at all as the company that RR'ed my G60 are the most respected VAG tuners in Scotland and their Maha Power Diagnostics RR is calibrated fortnightly I seem to remember, so they are pretty much spot on with their figures)

  8. Hey there,

A set of 4 wheels and tyres delivered next day anywhere in the UK for £45 all in. Interlink express or APC Overnight both are the same price roughly. Oh and vr6storm these days my name is exactly the same as it has been for the last 6 months, BigeastsideVWG60 :p

  9. Big thanks to Darren aka G-man from G-werks who solved the problem I had with my G60 today, nice one mate !

Was on way to work this morning and car was running like *hite, it would rev up and down on it's own with no throttle, then would sputter, almost stall, catch again. Then just as I got to work it died completely. The engine would turn over and pump fuel but wouldn't start at all. I checked the obvious things like distributor and plugs etc and vac line but all were ok. Then was going to call recovery company and prepare the car to be taken to VW stealers and prepare myself for a large bill, but decided to call Daz first on the off-chance he could solve the prob.

Darren said to check the blue CTS (coolant temp. sensor) and the wires going into it. Lo and behold one connecting wire was snapped and the other was completely frayed, hence the poor running and refusal of engine to start !

I removed the connector and took it to my local Seat dealer where the service manager got one of the technicians to solder new connecting wires onto the plastic plug and supplied me with two new heatshrink connectors to connect the existing wires onto the new ones (thanks also go to Scotty at Glenvarigill Seat, Aberdeen for the quick fix !). Took it back to work and trimmed the wires and fitted the replacement connection and hey presto, woo hoo, engine running sweet again !!

So cheers Daz for sorting my problem out, again ! :D

    BigEastsideVWG60, 2.0-16v is 139bhp - same as 1.8-16v (UK Spec)

Have edited my post above, and the 2.0L-16V actually has 136 BHP 9A block (same as 1.8-16v which also has 136 BHP [uK Spec]) :p

Was under the assumption that the engine in the 2.0L-16V Corrado was the same as in the Mk3 Golf 16V and Seat Ibiza 16V which is a 150 BHP 2.0L-16V ABF unit, but I stand corrected...,

    Cheers,

    BigEastsideVWG60

  11. UK BHP for common VW engines (roughly) [not 100 % sure on figures or codes, correct me if I'm wrong]

    1.8L 16V KR = 136 BHP (EDITED)

    2.0L 16V 9A = 136 BHP (EDITED)

    1.8L 8V = 112 BHP

    2.0L 8V = 115 BHP

    1.8L 8V PG (G60) = 160 BHP (UK) / 158 BHP (US)

So using any of these engines you would be losing some power albeit not much in some cases :(

    Cheers,

    BigEastsideVWG60

  12. I have to agree with MelG60 on this one,

I have the same cam (Schrick 268/276) in mine and it's great, and you know the figures mine puts out :D

    Cheers,

    BigEastsideVWG60

  13. I take it you mean put a 2.0L 8V engine in conjunction with the G60 charger in place of the 1.8L PG engine that the G60 came with? If so the 1.8L / 2.0L 8V engines Stateside were crossflow, correct me if I'm wrong. Darren (aka G-man) from this forum would be best to answer this specific question as he is working on a similar project right now, and I suspect he will be able to give you rough BHP figures. Be prepared for custom-making bits etc if this is the route you plan on going done. If you just mean swapping the supercharged 1.8L 8V PG engine for a normally-aspirated 2.0L 8V you would lose 43 BHP(115 BHP as standard), if it was swapped for the 2.0L 16V unit this should yield 150 BHP, a loss of only 8 BHP.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    BigEastsideVWG60

  14. I bought 4 Toyo Proxes T1's 195*50's from Mytyres a few months ago and it was £125 delivered including VAT. Got them fitted and balanced for £30 so £155 all in. Reckon you got yourself a good deal there mate :)

    Cheers,

    BigEastsideVWG60

  15. No G60 8v, in whatever state of tune is a match for a well tuned and driven VR6. simple as that. and a 200BHP G60 is definitely no match for a 200BHP VR6, power to weight or not, the g60 will lose.

Hmmmn, interesting concept but I beg to differ.

My G60 has 244.5 BHP at the flywheel and is considerably quicker than a VR6 C and that was when it had 9 x 16" wheels on :). Also seem to remember that when my G60 had only 200 BHP it went up against a 195 BHP ish (?) VR6 C on the dual carriageway and was a good deal quicker (correct me if I'm wrong here) (as well as the small matter of beating a Fiat Coupe 20v turbo [220 BHP as standard] at Crail Raceway when it was run up the quarter mile) :-P

    Cheers,

  16. Hey all,

I am trying to rearrange insurance cover for my G60 (long story...,) but most companies charge a lot extra if you pay your premium by direct debit over the year and it's p***ing me off..., two comanies want £150-£179 extra just for paying by DD !!!! Does anyone know of companies that don't charge extortionate amounts for paying your premium by DD, don't mind paying a bit extra but not £150+ extra! Just don't have a spare £500 at the mo to pay my whole premium up front, any advice / recommendations would be appreciated,

    Cheers,
