Indeed you can - so feel free to take some and add them if you make your own loom :) Its something i have been thinking about for a while now, there are so many of us doing work to our cars that if we took pictures as we where going along and posted them it would make it so much easier for everyone else. Even though i lack a lot of the knowledge i plan on keeping a photo diary of each job i do. Not only so i can post them but to help me put stuff back together :D Hell, if the forum got enough entries they could copy and sell on a DVD DIY manual to help with funding.
  2. well ive been to the only local garage that is open on a sat and they £21.50 and the car for 30 mins! Going to wait until Monday and try the one nearer me as i trust his work a hell of a lot more.
  3. yeah, im going to keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if the level drops. It has been mentioned to me that maybe the head gaskets on they way out, it would explain the car not revving properly once i hit 6k revs and the smoke coming out of the back, and the low level of coolant? any truth in it? Im not the most mechanically minded yet but ive a willingness to learn, and ive just had an offer accepted on a house with a huge garage :D So plenty of room to do it now so no excuses!
  4. ive just bought another rado and the lights are really awful, i cant see anything at night on dip, full isnt that bad that tho. Going to have to make myself a new loom but i cant follow the wiki guide, think i might have a bash on the written off rado first and if it works transfer it or build a second one. looks like im going to really have to make it fully waterproof though judging by some of the troubles you lot have had! on a side note, can you add pictures/diagrams to wiki pages?

  6. Hi all, Ive just bought DannyWhiteley's 1.8 16v and i have a few problems with the car. The first seems to be the cooling system, on the way up the motorway the engine temp was sat @ 90'c. The next day i got in it to find the temp light flashing at me, stopped the car and restarted and the light stayed off. It came on later that day again but never came back on after a restart. I checked all the fluids today to find that the cap of the cooling system wasnt fully tightened and the water level just below the min mark. Topped it up and tightened the cap fully. However the car still seems to be running hot, once i hit anything over 60mph it drops to 90'c however round town it will sit at 110'c. Surely this cant be right can it? Second problem, the car redlines at 7K revs but once i hit 6K the car seems to stop pulling, its hard to explain but it just feels like the car is losing power and can judder ever so slightly. Along with this i leave a nice cloud of smoke behind, not sure of the colour but maybe grey/blue. Any suggestions?? Oh, i also have no heat but the blowers work so i need a new heater matrix. The MFA MPG seems stuck at 99.9MPG And is the engine in the rado the same as the 1.8 16v in the mk? golf? could i buy the Haynes manual for the golf and use it to work on the engine?
  7. is that the one where 2 lads are drag racing and one of them ends up going off the track? Or is this a different one? If its the first, all i can say is that i love the paint job on the one car.
  8. makes me laugh that there is no MK1 Golf GTi either, the car that they say started the hot hatch revolution! the mk5 GTi is there but the R32 isnt. strange bunch!
  9. this may explain why my G60 is running an emissions rating of 9%. Its been sitting in my driveway for 12 months now. Hopefully im going to be getting a start on before winter!

  14. not yet, the quote is based on a visual inspection. I know it is slightly bent as i opened the bonnet and now it wont shut properly. I was just wondering how much i should be looking for the items that need replacing and whether i could buy a sill myself for it. The more money i can save by doing it myself the better. Putting it into another shell is the last resort really.
  15. Ok all, Just got my quote through to fix my C after my accident. If i cant get the price down i am going to be looking for a shell to transfer everything into. Ive already got wheels so that isnt a problem. All i really want is for them to straighten the car up as it is slightly warped (bonnet wont close), replace the sill and repair the floor then spray it. Can anyone tell me how much i am looking at for the parts i need? thanks PS. Can anyone recommend a good place to get a roll cage from for the C?
  16. Lo all, Chatting on another forum as a lad wants to buy a 1.8 16v C that is pushing 170BHP. I thought it was 1.8 16v = 133BHP 2.0 16v = 136BHP G60 = 158BHP VR6 = 178BHP But some of the lads are saying that the VR6 is 190BHP as standard, now ive googled it but can only find 178BHP. Can anyone please tell me the correct figures? Stu
  17. It must do mate, my life is can be used to prove that there is something out there controlling our lives. It seems everytime i get on my feet i take a big kick in the nuts for it. Ive started 2 jobs and had an accident within the first 2 weeks of each. I left one job for a far better one and then that company went into administration 3 days before christmas, id only been there 3-4 months. It goes on and on :) Anyway, had a quote from the local repair centre and ive been quoted around £4000 at the moment :( I cant afford that and i cant find any local garage with either the experience, or if they have the experience they havent the balls to attempt to transfer the engines. Looks like im going to have to try and get the G60 on the road and try and do the valver on my own. Strip it down, cut the sill out and replace, make sure its all square. Replace door and wing, repair rear quarter. Then i think i will rip the rear seats out and put a full roll cage in for the added strength. Ive got a lcoal lad coming down to look at it tomoz so im hoping he can do it a lot cheaper for me!

  19. speaking to a mate tomoz at the local repair centre, he put a CRX back on the road after it was written off when it was rolled. At the best, transfer the engine (advice needed in the engines section :) ) to the g60 and the use the charger on it. Strip it right down and see if its repairable by totally cutting away and replacing the sill and panels then use it as a project car. However, depending on price and whether its possible it will be more likely that it will be stripped. Important bits need for the G60 will be transferred, some things will be kept for when they go on the G60 and the rest will be offered up here before they go on ebay.

  22. Lo, If you read my post in General Chat you will know that ive got a 1.8 16v with a destroyed chasis and a G60 with a bad engine. Im going to get the 16v put into the G60 shell, got it running perfect and then get the G60 charger recond upto stage 4 and fit a aftermarket intercooler. What things should i keep in mind when getting the engines switched?? Main query is which bits should i be keeping on the G60 or replacing from the 16v? Which gearbox, should i use the 16v wiring loom or will the G60 one work with the 16v engine? The g60 has got ABS but the valver hasnt, easy to transfer and keep or to remove? Any help very gratefully received as i need this done asap for work! Which bits should i keep as replacements incase they go in the future and which bits would be the most profitable to sell? thanks
  23. if someone had given me the option of 2 broken legs or to have the accident, id of gone for the broken legs, they heal! She was going to be my run around while i got the G60 stripped, was going to charge the 1.8 16v and get a 1.8t fitted to the G60 shell as i think the G60 engines in a bad way. Ive only had it 3-4 weeks aswell!
  24. i guess im right when i say there is not chance of repair here with the sill banged that far in?? I dont think so but the bloke down the road reckons he had a BMW like it that was repaired!
