  1. Hey guys, Have any of you tried the Power Gasket Plus for the VR6 that Awesome have for sale on their website? Details here: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/store/product.php?xProd=3507&xSec=86 Did you notice better performance? Just curious :) Cheers, Jon
  2. As Dr_mat says, VRs will always shoot up to 100 deg in traffic, mine does it all the time! As long as it cools down when the fan kicks in or when you start to cruise along, then there really isn't a problem. My only thought on 'it not doing it 6 months ago' is did the garage put in a new thermostat? If the previous one was stuck open or not present, then the chances are the water temp would take a good while to get up to temp. Just a thought as this was the case with my mates Rado.
  3. Well it certainly makes the car run better IMHO but yeah the fuel consumption is down a little, only by 5mpg on my usual run though so not too bad. Cheers guys! Oh and just out of interest, is it normal for a de-cat pipe on an otherwise stock exhaust system to sound like it is blowing even when it is not? I'm not talking about the increased noise level (it hasn't really made much difference to stock), just the air chuffing kinda noise under acceleration. Oh and if I blip the throttle, it proper burbles when the revs drop and then pops once! I have have checked and checked the whole system and there are no leaks, so I guess this is normal? Sounds cool even if its not.. he he! Thanks again :)
  4. You are a star! I was proper on the stess before I read this post! Going to Halfords to get a better blanking plug. Cheers guys :)
  5. Thats good to know coz I just fooked my sensor trying to get it out of the miltek de-cat pipe! Gonna re tap the hole and plug it till I can get a new lambda. Does anyone know if this will cause any damge to the engine? If not, and if it runs better, I may just leave it out for good :)
  6. One of the Croydon neighbourhood watch officers stopped me while parking up the VR today. He knocked on the window and gestured me to open it. I did, expecting to be told to move my car as it was a residential area, but instead, he said "Mate I love your car, what is it? I see it every day and I want it... fancy selling it? How much?" Finally I got a word in amongst his ramblings and said "cheers for the comments mate, but it isn't for sale". He looked gutted, so I told him to look on the interweb for a VW Corrado and if he can, get a VR6. He looked happy enough and scurried off to his little hut to log on to Auto Trader. Chuftie :D
  7. Interesting! I'm going to take it all apart again at the weekend and re-fit as the farty noise is driving me mad! Really sounds like a split down pipe or something even though I KNOW it isn't!
  8. Just a quickie, does anyone know if the demister/heater fan from a MK2 Golf is the same a a '92 VR6 one? Found one cheap and desperatley need it Thanks :)
  9. Really? Mine didn't for the VR! Have to say I am not impressed with miltek at all! The replacement pipe was 5" too short - and that was with the pipe extension provided. The quality of the flange welds (the bit that bolts to the down pipe) was really REALLY bad! And to top it off, at idle not only can you hear the nice VR burbble, it sounds like the car is doing a long gentle wet fart! Another thing I noted is you can hear the air rushing through the new pipe so it sounds like it is blowing when accelerating. I have checked for leaks 4 times now and there is nothing - no leaks - even when a mate blips the throttle while im underneath checking! There was a noticeable power gain though but to be honest I think I'm going to search for a much better quality alternative.
  10. Good stuff! :) I had two clips on the other side of the fan arm ducting as well as the four you have kindly pointed out in the photo. Bit of a bi*ch to remove but do-able.
  11. Yep, she is a top lass, she even makes sure I get out with the spanners if she feels I haven't spent enough time with the cars. I think its because she knows she will get to drive them and I won't mind her larging it and sliding round the bends. She's a bit nifty behind the wheel, which suprised me seeing as she is this petit lil' thing.
  12. An Ex of mine said exactly those things to me. She even nick named it 'Greeny Meany'. Talk about Karma, after that, every time she got in it, it burst a water pipe... he he! Anyway, after stuck up comments like that, she is now an EX ;) My new girlie (well 6 months now) loves it! She said it is very much a blokes car, but she loves the look, the feel and the speed. As a reward for such good behaviour, I let her drive it. Good girl lit the tyres up! :D
  13. He drives a T4 Van, a '67 Beetle and races a '72 Beetle Cup car. Yeah he is still VW through and through :)
  14. I have one... thought what the hell! You know what? It deffinately feels like its making more torque and the mpg are much better than before. It even smoothed out the acceleration a bit. It doesn't make you the fastest thing on the road though... ;) he he
  15. Ahh of course, silly me! For some reason I thought that was the Splitty they bought. Got my wires crossed. Havn't really been on VZi much recently but your name does ring a bell from posting on there. I have a '61 Beetle Ragtop currently under going some extensive resto work. Got a nice big motor in the back so I'm gagging to get it all finished and take it to Santa Pod. Still, dare I say it, I don't think the ride will ever compare to the Corrado, no matter how fast its gonna be :)
  16. A mate of mine said to me that the Corrado looks dog ugly :( On the up side, he added 'boy do they shift... i love em' ;)
  17. Hey Claire, You arn't Stussy off of VZi are you? Thats a well nice Corrado you have there. I think Simon (Streetbuggy from VZi) was gonna part ex his Splitty for that one! I told him to go for it but he didn't.. the fool! He he! Like you, I also have got the water-cooled buzz and am loving my Corrado. Hopefully see the C at a few shows next year. Mine will be there, well unless I finish my Beetle. Laters, Jon
  18. Yeah, thats where it is. My missus (who has tiny hands) managed to get a 10mm ratchet spanner in there and work some magic. It took ages to get the nut off as the movment was minimal. She managed it though! I didn't mind it taking long though; seeing her sprawled out over my engine bay was very nice indeed ;) I tried to get my hand in the space and the only way I could was to go from beneath the coolant tank. However, once there I couln't bend my hand enough to get a hold of the spanner.
  19. I had these with my matrix and I didn't need to use either of them as there were simply no parts that matched them on the matiix. The gasket was too small to be used any where and the little nozzle, well god only knows. I did wonder if these were applicable to Golfs? If you got the matrix from GS&F, the matrix is the same unit for MK3 and 4 golfs and all Corrados according to their parts numbers!
  20. Thanks for putting this guide up. I follwed it and managed to the the job in 4 and a half hours and now have nice heat, no steam and no smell from my heater system. Top job! I did, however, find it very usefull to remove the centre consol heater ducting (just popped out) and the windscreen demister ducting (held in by 2 small screws to the underside of the dash) as this meant the matrix could be pulled out with ease. Fitting it all back in is much MUCH easier! Reckon I could do the job in a couple of hours now I know how to do it! :) Thanks again!

    Heater Matrix

DOH! I have been driving my VR with the smell of coolant, intermitent damp (not wet) floor and very occasional steam on the windscreen, for about a year! Now I know I could get burnt any day now, I have just ordered a new matrix! Wish me luck, its gonna be fun getting my dash out! Plus my fan has just stopped working! Great!!!!!

    Porsche Rims

Hmmmm! So are Porsche Cup 2s (9J ET 70) on the rear of my VR6 out of the question without any modifications? I guess there will be rubbage! Any idea what size adaptors I will be looking at? I've seen a set of really nice genuine Cup 2s (dirt cheap) and I'm eager to buy them. Fronts are 7J ET55 so I know I can get these to fit with adaptors. Its the rears I'm worried about. Standard offset is ET43 on a 61/2 J 15in Speedline. Any help is much appreciated :) [EDIT] Problem solved, I've found a full set of 7J ET55 - Rock on ;)
