See here:http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?p=180939#180939 Thought more appropriate place to post! :D -
I know this is sacrilege to most of you... Just found it at last... I got my towbar from here: Watling Engineers Limited Took a bit of jiggery pokery to fit (much easier to take bumper off first if I remember?). But no drilling to the car :-P (apart from for the electrics) But having the bracket is an ideal compromise, I can use the trailer or bicycle carrier or both simultaneously! :-P Attached: Pic of towbar with trailer attached, underside and installation instructions

Cheers Mike, don't suppose you have any pictures of it in situ? Cos, I couldn't see where it went for the life of me, but I guess I didn't see where it came from! MMJ

Are you stalking me! :-P Oil temp... I knew that! Cheers buddy! :D

Cheers Gibber! So the Cheque will be to Mr Gavin and not "Headlight Looms 'R' us Ltd" then! :-P

OK, so I've just about finished giving the c a little tlc. I noticed that the fuel pipes that go across the engine were not clipped into the retaining clips (they are all perished and just snapped when I tried to clip them back in) but the pipes are quite corroded, and two of them are quite chaffed where, they have rubbed against each other and the brackets that hold the retaining clips. So, my question is: Are the pipes reasonably priced from VW or shall I get some made by a local hose repair place? This is one of those things that would probably be OK for years, but cos I have now seen it... High pressure, fuel etc... May be worth checking the condition of your own??? Finally, is there anything I should be aware of when doing this job? TIA
-
Cheers Gibber, could you tell me a little more about the 'cap', where is it located etc. Is this part of the ignition barrel? And if anyone knows the correct description or even part number... That'll be lovely! Thanks for the PM Gavin, that'll have to wait a while... Chrimbo, taxbill etc. As regards the pump, no it doesn't run all the time, just takes a second to prime on turning the ignition on. (well the pump just forward of the offside rear wheel) but call me old fashioned, it just goes against the grain to leave the iggy on for any length of time. :|

is that a problem :?: temp seems fine, are you saying your temp guage stuck on zero? Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The analogue gauge seemed to be stuck at zero on the return journey, whilst the MFA temp reading was registering 98/100 degs. Another little fault that will appear and disappear just long enough to annoy me...
-
Thanks for the advice Gavin, I may have a probe at the ignition barrel itself like you suggest, but I wanted to put it right if possible... As for having the ignition on, I didn't think it would do the fuel pump/s any good being pressurised without the engine running... already replaced the fuel pump once! (which I replaced myself after the local mechanics just went 'Ooooohh, argh, mmmm - expensive...' whilst scratching themselves...) These looms of yours... are they very effective? How muchos? I thought the dim glow eminating from the front of the Corrado was a deliberately menancing stealth feature???

Try buying the wife/gf some new jewellery :-P , this usually prevents any unwanted droning noises. But be warned this is not a permanent solution... :D

I've had this prob a long time now and it's time to sort it! I seem to remember a long time ago on the Yahoo forum someone else had the same problem. I cannot seem to find a source of power when the key is in the accessory position? Fine for ignition on (but this is a nuisance when sat in the car). I think one of the posters said that they had a capacitor replaced which remedied this prob? The wiring was pretty hideous when I bought the car, butchered is a term that springs to mind... Anyway, all the fuses are ok, I even tested for power at the fusebox with the ignition in the Acc position but to no avail. So, any pointers? TIA

JBOB, I have one here brand new if you're desperate? I ordered one a long time ago, thinking it was missing - but it actually sits inside the cap, not clearly visible. But the part number listed is 027 905 261 Hang on a mo, unless, this is the distributor 'O' ring??? I replaced the distributor some time back as the mechanic didn't think the dizzy would work after being stripped... Should I be senile at mid 30???

OK, it just occurred to me whilst working on the car today, someone may be able to tell me what this bit is. I found this just after I bought the car and was sorting out the spaghetti in the dash  Small black plastic (maybe heat vent type thingy? But I couldn't see where it came from, so put it somewhere safe (for 4 years!) until today. If anyone has ETKA, could they look up the number, or maybe one of you can recognise it? The number stamped on it is RTO 535 858 715 Piccy attached:

Thanx 4 all the input gents, here is an update... I have taped up the loose wire which quite probably was shorting to earth causing the fan to run on. Will try to resolder the spade terminal back on to the sensor or replace soon. After refilling with coolant (never had coolant before!) and running the engine to check for leaks etc. all seemed fine until I tried the car heater... No heat  , but after a while, the coolant level dropped a little, so topped up and later on seemed ok. So maybe an airlock? Which ment the heater matrix was dry??? Anyway, all seemed fine. One possible slight (coolant anyhoo) problem left, when I drove the car this evening, temp gauge was ok, but on the way back, didn't seem to budge??? But the MFA was registering a steady 98/100c. May be cos I pressure washed the engine bay after all the work? Maybe causing another intermittent joint? I'll keep you all posted, once again, thanks for all the input!

?!?!?!?!?!!? he must have mis-understood when someone told him it was a good car for pulling    Hahahaha!!!! Hey, just cos it's my van, doesn't mean I don't love it!!! Practical Corrado ing :-P If you see me - please wave, I'm fed up of quickly pretending I was waving at someone on the pavement!!! -
Ah, a local! (I'm from the 'Riviera' 8)) Removed the housing today to discover.... No thermostat! And yes, it was... Also discovered a broken connector on a temp sender? Top/front of engine just behind the lifting eye. Poor picture attached! The number written on it is: 1919195210, could this be adding to the problems listed, or is this something else! Shall I order the one (suggested by Supercharged) also??? Thanks for the suggestions so far! Also, I am changing the belts and was sent the wrong bloody belt  Power steering belt was correct, but the alternator was too small. (goes around the power steering pulley also)

Hi chaps, new here (Hello!), have popped into the Yahoo site before, but this seemed a much better option. I have a few probs with the C at the mo - '89 1.8 16v. When I switch off the engine, the fan comes on automatically (for about 10-15 mins?) even if the engine has not reached temperature. I'm guessing that this is controlled by a sensor that may be kaput? Trouble is, there are other coolant related issues to... Bear with me! The heater seems to have stopped working also and the temperature rises (according to the gauge and MFA) much quicker than normal and reaches up to about 100 when in traffic. This quickly subsides when travelling again. The poor thing needs a bloody good service and what have you.. just got all the bits including a thermostat (thought that maybe the issue at first before I noticed the fan problem - All the faults seem to have appeared simultaneously?) Also bought a sunroof doofer (Thanks Mike  ) But that'll have to wait for another day! Sorry, long (nearly) first post! P.S. Does no-one flash and wave anymore??? Or is that just miserable Devonshire C'ers? 8)

Dave, hi, new to the forum, but having a look around like you do... I noticed the other day on the pic of your signature that you make seat handles. Is this right? I'm after the nearside (ejector :-P ) type one? But I guess I would need a pair.
