  1. Ah I see, I assumed that the garage could see the chipped tooth, but obviously it's a sealed unit. Thanks for the advice, wasn't meaning to imply that i wasn't grateful - more that i didn't really understand as i'm pretty knowledge-less mechanically! One other thing is that steering to the right is 'easier' than to the left. Have got a price for a remanufactured rack for £125 exchange, but wouldn't be too confident of what i was getting was any good! Cheers tafkadm.
  2. Err, right  What about recon units - have heard bad things, but is it really worth spending £400+ on a new one? Ta
  3. Get one - i love mine, can put a big grin on your face. Except when it needs fixing!!
  4. Sweeeet - am jealous. Nothing like a bit of Prodigy to get you in a calm frame of mind!
  5. Know this is an old post now, but did you get the rack replaced and did it cure your probs?
  6. Well this is a job i have been putting off for as long as possible, but the problem seems to be worsening over the last couple of weeks. My usual garage (local VAG specialist) told me when i asked them to diagnose it a few months back that i need a new steering rack, obviously this is v expensive and i wondered what people think before i get it done. The steering is imprecise and kind of light at lower speeds - it drifts to one side (but not always the same one!) and feels a bit notchy. At motorway speeds it seems to drive fine. Bumpy roads are a bit of a nightmare as the steering tends to get pulled around, and if you go through a tight, bumpy corner pretty fast there is a kind of judder through the wheel as you hit the bumps! The garage say one of the teeth is chipped (not had a look myself). This is probably consistent with when some tw*t (ie me!) smacked into a curb at 40+ mph about a year ago (it was totally hidden by standing water and i didnt know the road, in my defence - still pretty embarrasing tho! ). At the time just the front nearside wheel bearing needed replacing (and a buckled wheel) but i expected something else to show up in time. Any input would be much appreciated, and also if u agree it needs doing is it worth getting a recon unit as it's half the price of a new VAG one? Thanks v much Anthony (sorry the post's so long)
  7. Red M946 or summit like that - coming off Wincheap roundabout in Canterbury going towards Ashford - i was going the other way. About 2 hours ago.

  9. It was in the US of course - he was on his way to a video shop at 1 in the morning!
  10. Thanks for the advice everyone. Needing to uprate the battery/alternator was kinda at the back of my mind, but can't remember the ratings of the amps of the top of my head - will have to get out to the car and have a look later on. Is there a general rule of thumb for what's too much for a standard battery? bcstudent, i think i follow you so no need for the picture! :) The friendly local car audio shop will be able to help me out with the bits.
  11. I have a spare 2-channel Pioneer amp from my old Golf which i'd quite like to wire into my C if possible. Currently i have an Alpine V12 amp running a 10" Alpine sub (installed by previous owner). My Sony head unit has 3 sets of rca outputs (front/rear/sub) so obviously i connect either front or rear to the pioneer amp, whichever i decide. What i'm not sure about is whether it's necessary to wire an additional live feed and on/off cable to the second amp, or whether i can somehow wire this into the feeds for the Alpine amp? Have tried the search but to no avail! Any thoughts? Or is this just a really stupid question?? Cheers, AK
  12. Hi Have got chance to buy a set of Speedlines at cost price through a mate of a mate and was just wondering if anyone had any opinions which would look good? Have seen JimG60's Comp2 and i like those, has anyone got any other types on their C? Ta very much
  13. Just saw about half an hour ago a Black Vr6 M.. YRX (or something like that) at the Blockbuster traffic lights on New Dover Road in Canterbury. Was walking so would have felt a bit stupid waving and i definitely wasn't gonna flash! Anyone here?
  14. I have that problem when i drive other cars!
  15. Thanks for the info. I don't get any slip when in gear but i do get juddering when pulling away unless i use higher revs. So new clutch it is then i guess. Are there any other jobs that might be worth getting done at the same time?
  16. I think my clutch needs replacing, but i though i'd see what peeps thought b4 i get it changed. Not mechanically minded so apologies if this is a bit obvious! Right. When pulling away from a stand i get a kind of squealing noise as the clutch bites for a second or so ( depending on how long you slip the clutch). It goes as soon as the pedal is let right out. Also occasionally when going back into 1st after driving at speed for a while i'll get a grinding as i go into gear. Seems to happen more when the car's hot. Local dealer quoted £436 to change the clutch (not that i have any intention of taking it there!), which sounds expensive to me - is it?? Car has done 77k Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Anthony
  17. AndyVR6 - can't remember having been to Chartham Hatch recently, so not me i'm afraid. Only time i'm down broak oak rd is when the car's off to Volksline to be fixed, which has been at bit too often recently for my liking! G60DUB, when's the meet? May be able to come along, wassit all about (new to this excuse the ignorance!)
  18. it's a green VR6 on an L plate. Unfortunately don't use it that much as i can walk to work in under 10 mins!
  19. I seen this one about a few times as well. Also seen a white C around Canterbury, possibly a G60. One of the examiners at the driving test centre in Canterbury (can see the rear car park out my office window) had a red G60 J*** CUC, i think he must of sold it, or doesn't come to work in it any more.
