Well have a Quaife and I'm well happy with it. People who try and follow me aren't happy though as it seems to put the power down very well indeed. I've not heard of anyone trashing an ATB in a road car. My understanding is that it's already built as a race part and by implication over-engineered as a road car part, regardless of whether Peloquin strenghened thiers or not. As regards the "myth" that is the Integra Type-R, it is an amazing handling car but frankly when you look at the engineering involved there was nothing really complicated about what they did. Simply lightweight front & rear upper & lower strut braces at both front and back of the car, combined with an LSD and some weight reduction was all that was involved. I know the 'Teg is a cracking little thing but frankly it's not complex to do all these things to a Corrado (I know this!) and I can definately say from experience on the track that once you've got a VR6 buttoned down reasonably with an ATB fitted it's able to beat up the Honda quite reasonably (ducks and waits for torrents of flames from Honda enthusiasts) Of course, that might be down to the possibility that Teg owners all drive little bed-wetting little girls. The car may indeed still be faster of course, LOL

@Cata: What's your target specification? Have you got that far yet? I'm not going to post mine up for a few weeks yet, but I've acquired a stack of available parts/supplier sources and a couple of references you might want to read through which night be helpful to you when you get started. Let me know if you need any of these and I'll PM to you seperately. Seriously a 24v lump makes a lot more sense in lots of ways. A 12v all-motor project will probably cost you more than a 24v if my experience is anything to go by, but if you really are committed to this then PM me & maybe I can help you a bit. HTH, John

So you have a copy of the current ETKA do you Dom? Hope VW don't notice that.

Oh get over yourself. People ignore my posts all the time but there's no point getting narked about it, I enjoy the typing practice  People are hardly going to join in and get excited about you and Dukest being in a little clique about what you're up to now are they? I think a powerful "all motor" VR6 with good suspension mods will be a thing of beauty, looking forward to seeing the results. Been considering a Vbox myself actually. As for the 268s and Schrick, best I've seen from "The big 3" (bored throttle, shrek and cams) is 225hp with 220ish torque. Things get a little more interesting with a big valve head and a capacity increase. In terms of low down torque and drivability, Shcimmel's 263 cams are way better than the 268s, imo....having used both. Kev, Calm down my old son. That was a comment about all the sticky "charging/24v threads" not a pop at you. Do you not know me well enough by now to appreciate that much? The vBox is a real toy. I managed to soften the blow by splitting the cost with a mate who also does trackdays. We've still got some sorting our to do, but I can report is does all the things it says on the box. The only problem I have to solve is to work out the correct offset calculations so I can overlay the traces on Googlemaps as the co-ordinates are out by about

To get back to the original question, in my experience the following mods will have the following approximate impact in done individually to a 2.9ABV lump - Remapping : Approx 8bhp-12bhp - VSR/Schrick VGI + remap : Approx 10bhp-18bhp (the VSR generates much larger impact on torque, but there is a BHP payoff generally) - 268 cams : Approx 5bhp-7bhp Of course all of this depends on the health of the engine to start with. Also mixing modifications does not result directly in an A+B+C=D improvement in power. Depending on what other changes you have made the output will often be less or more than the sum of the individual parts. HTH John

Well since so few people are reading this thread (because it's not about bloody turbocharging) let's keep it a bit of a secret for the time being? If you look at the sticky "The Definitive tuning threads" above which one is missing? Looks like I'll have a whole thread to myself don't it, LOL.

yep, have heard about the figures you're aiming for john! will they have been verified when you get it back or will you be taking it somewhere to find out for yourself? I will get the engine figured once it's run in, don't worry... this isn't being done by halves  Oh... I also have a VBox as well now. This will probably be the first road legal Corrado in the UK to generate over 1g lateral cornering and I aim to be able to prove that as well.

I completely admire what the R8 is, but at the same time it leaves me completely sterile on the emotional level. Jeremy Clarkson hit the nail on the head in describing the appeal of Aston Martin. Imagine you're taking your better half out to dinner... "so dear do you think we should go in the Porsche, or should we take the Aston..."
-
That's about right. If you work on 215bhp you won't be disappointed - some make a couple more than that but it varies from engine to engine. Of course to see what's possible you only need to wait a few weeks until mine comes back on the road. More will be revealed when it's finally run and mapped but I'm going to be making a lot more than 215bhp, and without a charger. Watch this space...

Frankly for the money I'd still have an Aston Martin but that's the heart speaking rather than the head.

I agree with what you say, but it's important to remember that for many 911 buyers one of the key selling points is the comparatively understated design. You can drive a 911 around most towns in relative anonymity but you might not want the attention that an R8 (or Ferrari) attracts, which can often be the wrong sort.
-
In fact by utilising antithesis to maximum effect (i.e. by talking about it's the slowest car they've ever made) they cleverly highlight exactly how fast it is, whilst retaining plausible deniability. Like I say it's a beautiful and clever advert. I haven't enjoyed a car advert as much since Honda's "Hate something" cartoon a few years ago.
-
Ahh the new Audi R8 advert is currently gracing our screens and what a thing of beauty it is. Magical photography, beautiful quirky Bjork-like soundtrack... But it begs the question : Are Audi merely capitalising on thier new halo model, or is the advertising actually an attempt to generate sales? I mean the media was saying you couldn't get an R8 until 2009, but then a similar story went out about the Jaguar F-type and that turned out to be a pork pie... Viewpoints please?

The Fidanza one costs more money, but even less weight (3.8kg). I should also be running in by the end of the month. Looks like we're all going to be having some fun :)

At least 5 years old, with the country changed from states in Australia to European countries, and the Holden changed to a Focus. Sorry...

So I guess you're babysitting all afternoon today Andy, bwaa-ha-ha !

Be careful with puddles...

Yeah... team fined for using more than one set of tyres in a practice session that has no impact at all on either qualifying or the race. They'll be fining them for starting the car before the session starts next, or maybe fining them for putting fuel in the car, or how about fining them for not putting sunscreen on before doing the press conference? The administration of F1 is completely farked. I'm now waiting for tomorrow's comedy McLaren prosecution moment to unfurl now.

I have to say the more that the FIA find new ways to persecute young Lewis, and the more of a farce it becomes, the more I keep thinking of this picture. Frankly I think it's closer to the truth in F1 right now than many people would like to admit...

Manufacturers and stupid waiting times for cars
corozin replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
Yo Andy, Did you try the "well that's ridiculous, I might as well go and buy a Ford Ka instead - at least I can get it now" argument? My old man has used that to significantly shorten delivery times on at least two occasions that I know of, albeit in Honda rather than Volkswagen dealers... -
For the benefit of those of you who are wondering what the hell Alex & I are talking about :

Oh FFS here we go again. What are the odds that a wheel will fly off Alonso's car, clear the barriers and strike Max Mosley stone cold dead? Do you reckon the odds I'd get would make it worth a cheeky punt and paying the tax up front? Oh well... I can wish....
-
Well... 1) It could be quite a number of things. Faulty plugs, or injectors, could be a failed catalytic convertor, or possibly even something like piston rings starting to fail. If the engine "smokes" at all once warmed up it will almost certainly fail on HC emission, but if it's not that and the car feels like it's running ok in every other respect then I'd take a punt and guess it's the cat. 2) If you have a knackered cat, you HC emissions will be high, possibly enough to fail the MOT. To be honest a good running VR6 is actually marginal emissions anyway - some people have de-catted and get good enough readings to pass the MOT. 3) Not that I'm aware of. If you have a VR6 I believe it needs to be under 225 "carbons" but to be honest understanding the techies won't really help you fix the problem. Start by looking for oil deposits in the exhaust, or oily smoke on the overrun. If that's ok then move on. 4) Probably of more help is this : VAG will charge you £480+VAT for a replacement cat, but I recently had a sports cat replacement supplied & fitted by Mike Stokes Motorsport in Bournemouth for just £237 incl VAT. At that price it might be worth a trip down the M3. HTH John (M - the original John M)

Sorry Alex - only just caught up with the thread (oops). I got my Fidanza one here : http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Hottuning-eu Really helpful, excellent service. Good price too. I have to say the flywheel itself is just a work of art. It's actually a shame to put it inside the car really. HTH, John

Although I love my Corrado to bits (even when it is actually in bits as it is right now now) I'd give my right arm to own a Ruf CTR. No contest... sorry... Sorry - are you talking about the cheap jappy car instead of the real CTR...?
