VR6 versus 944 Turbo - (or Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo??)
corozin replied to monVR6's topic in General Car Chat
You need to find Roddy as he's owned both. -
Well it's your decision and your money of course, but if the Hammerite is coming off that's because you didn't clean the surface properly, not because you used Hammerite!
-
I thought you meant your "car bunny" was hopping erratically and intermittently (as demonstrated recently by Jeremy Clarkson) LOL
-
Frankly Hammerite (or Smoothrite if you prefer) works just as well, is just as heat resistant, is available in a lot more colours (including silvers, bronze & gold metallics), and is a fraction of the price.

With modern ANPR technology there's no reason they couldn't scrap road tax and retain the annual MOT. Of course if they did that a lot of people at DVLA (in Labour voting Swansea) suddenly woudn't have a job to do, but perhaps I'm just cynical...

A better method is simply to confront them with classifieds for similar cars from the Autotrader. The fact the insurer tried to use Glasses' Guide or Parker's Guide (and hence pocket the different between trade & market sale value) can be defeated effectively if you stand your ground. BTW I've never seen an insurance company policy which obliges them to replace a car with similar in a case like this - that term usually only applies to cars that are less than a year old at the time of the write off. HTH, John

Remove the BMC filter and the rear lights and put the OEM parts back on. You'll increase your market opportunity as many people will just walk away from a car that's "obviously" modified. And without wishing to upset you, £4300 for a 93 car with average miles is ludicrous. 96N Storms have been Autotrader for less than that recently, with far fewer miles. I think you'll do ok to make £3500 frankly, and that's what I paid for my own '93 car two years ago.
-
Stumbled over this in my hard drive, taken at Longleat in 2004. You are not alone.
-
Thanks John, didn't know you cared  Are you going to do enough miles in it this year to notice the difference Bill? The rod is in the water, but will the fishy bite..?
-
Yeah but unlike yours Kev that one's been cleaned :D In any event that car has been on Pistonheads classifieds for so long I think it needs a couple of MOTs to bring the paperwork up to date. Presumably no-one else is falling for the sales patter either.

I think they were probably hoping a tow-truck would arrive before the owner returned. Now that would have been funny...
-
I think the colour depends on whether it goes with your skin tone dearie... :D

Ma-hoo-sive crowd gathers and cheers meter maid ticketing a Bugatti Veyron in London. Probably not Simon Cowell's... allegedly... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... 731961.ece

You'd be an utter monkey to pay £40k for that. Really *amazing* examples can be had for well under £15k, and decent ones for under £7k. For £40k I'd expect to have Miki Biasion's name on the window and some racing history... Anyway since we're into the "can anyone lend me some money for a fast car" this is my entry : http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C08033?pt=pf. It's expected to start bidding at £625,000...

The word is that the IROC is pretty much going to make it to Production with hardly any changes from the show car that VW unveiled 18 months ago. The only shame is that initially it's only going to be available with a 2.0FSi engine or the poxy 1.4 twincharger. The R32 / R36/ rumoured Turbo R32 model is still another couple of years away alas. Let's hope this retarded marketing strategy doesn't suffocate IROC sales in the same way that the Corrado's suffered 20 years ago prior to the VR6. Let us all pray... hands together and kneel folks...

VW nut i know at work is a baaaad baaaad man....
corozin replied to skinnyman9000's topic in General Car Chat
I know where there is a racing dog-box for sale for a VR6 if he really wants to go to town. Clutchless changes... mmmm... On a serious note the sensible thing for your mate to have done would have been to buy the Seat. Sticking a load of money into an old Corrado to "completely refresh it" all sounds good but in practice it always takes a helluva lot more money to do that you ever expected. I can speak from personal experience on this... I've currently put just over £9k into mine since last July, the engine development still isn't complete, and I've already used up my bodyshop budget to get through last November's bill. And I'm doing deals just to keep the costs even at these levels If I'd known then what I know now I'd probably have put the money towards an RS4 instead, but I'm beyond the point of no return with it and trust me that isn't a nice place to be. Tell your mate to buy the Seat, or prepare to potentially have a frustrated, poor mate for a very long time.... Now, about that dog-box... :) -
perfect WORKING scale model of a ferrari 312 PB
corozin replied to cardboard's topic in General Car Chat
It's the same car that Jeremy Clarkson featured in his "Motorworld" Series which was broadcast in 1971 or something. He interviewed the guy who built it. That said the fact that the guy managed to replicate the sound of the 312PB using a minature is just one of the most impressive things I've even seen done in a model build. It's beautiful. John -
I think you should get the sills repaired properly. I mean apart from anything else it's a safety thing isn't it. If you're happy driving around with bodged sill repairs then that's up to you but I wouldn't get in it as a passenger. You also have a responsibility to other road users to keep your car in a safe and roadworthy condition don't you?

Gutted... bad incident on the roads tonight
corozin replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
Well I think you did well to avoid a nasty ending on that one. For what it's worth you might consider a phone call to the Highways Agency (or failing that to the Police) today to complain about the positioning of the cones. Diverting you into oncoming traffic is pretty dangerous, and you may not have been the only person affected. If you don't let them know then the roadworks people may not realise the dangerous situation they created. -
Ooh I love these types of questions :) TOP THREE REASONS WHY BBS RS301s SO EXPENSIVE 1) They're absolutely lovely, so everybody wants them 2) They cost a lot even when they were new. 3) They didn't make many sets, and that was before they stopped making them, and that was before BBS went into Administration last year. Do I get a prize for answering ?

Over the years I've seen four or five P-platers. They're unusual for sure, as only one of the ones I've seen was a Storm. Although the production run ended in the late summer of 1995, cars were still being delivered to dealers and sold as late as April 1996 (when N-prefixes were still in use). Many years ago when this was debated over campfires the suggestion was made that when VW finally pulled the car from sale that a few dealers who were still holding unregistered cars decided to keep them for a few months longer and use the P-prefix as a final incentive to move them on. Certainly the people I've met who've owned them have all been very aware of (and proud of) thier unusual P-registrations. John

Looking for reg no. 911 DPW (it's on a Corrado)
corozin replied to dwhatley's topic in General Car Chat
Careful... if you start wishing openly on this forum that people would just scrap thier Corrados you may run out of friends ! -
Yo Andy, The legal phrase in this case is "Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware). If the car has stone chips he should have looked for them before the deal. Similarly he could have made the deal subject to a new MOT but didn't. He could have had the car inspected, but didn't. He bought the car as seen with no warranty or agreed conditions implied or expressed. If something goes wrong after consideration has passed it's not your problem. This is common UK contract law which applies in cases of verbal agreements / handshake like this. You keep the money and stand your ground. Legally he hasn't got a leg to stand on. He's got himself a nice Bora and should stop being such a pikey. Bank those franklins mate :D John
-
I don't believe James bought it. I would probably have heard (seperately) about it by now. It might have been the guy who ran a thread on here asking questions about it about 3 weeks ago (how your memory cells have faded already)

It is old news. You need to read the Pistonheads news page a bit more often and keep updated lads. Steve MacLaren still hadn't modelled his brolly when that happened! :D
