BACK TO THE VW FOLD..............VR HIGHLINE
james_88 replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in Members Gallery
Looking good there! Pleased you got back ok after that mega drive and hope it does you well in the future! I will be checking back to see the progress...........all the best. James -
Yeh i might do that but i'll have to get the engine running first! Any more ideas?
-
It's been running fine for many months since the fuel pump/filter was changed so prob not due to being fitted the wrong way! Cheers anyway.

Just a quick question, the other day i was driving along and when i tried to accelerate the car hesitated (well wouldn't go at all) - pulled over to have a look in the engine bay and found the vacuum hose attached to the fuel pressure regulator had come off so i popped it back on. Then tried to start the engine and it just died - it turns over over but then completely stalls. I had a new fuel pump/filter fitted recently so i doubt that's the problem. Plus i can hear the relays and pump when trying to start the engine. What else could be causing a lack of fuel getting to the engine? Did something in the FPR get damaged when the vacuum hose popped off or something? Just returned from a road trip to the Nurburgring at the weekend - probabaly didn't do the car any favours

Me and my mate were at the ring last Sunday in our two corrados, it was amazing! Totally awesome! I agree with what you say about brakes over power, you don't appreciate the gradient of the track until you've actually driven round it!
-
The thing that really struck me the most was the gradient of the track, you really can't see how much up/down there is in pictures or film of the track! Definately agree about the brakes, you really need a good set! And you're not worried at all about other cars beating you, all the matters (to a novice like me anyway) is completing the lap safely! Can't wait to go back later on in the year!

Could be the voltage regulator on the alternator?
-
Think it is the voltage regulator, i had similar problems and the wire from the alternator to the battery ended up being cooked twice! Easy enough to change and not too pricey!
-
I think BBS RX's are lovely, although a few folk have them but that wouldn't put me off! Another wheel which compliments the corrado beautifully (in my opinion) is the RH ZW1 but again these are becoming quite popular!

Who's travelled the furthest for a car in one stint???
james_88 replied to H8RRA's topic in General Car Chat
Drove from Edinburgh to Scunthorpe to buy a saxo a few years ago, then from Edinburgh to Bradford twice (first time to view, second time to buy) my current corrado! -
Coilovers definately!
-
No offense but i think these things look absolutely horrible. But each to their own!
-
Sounds like there's still a bit of oil in the engine, hence the bad idle? I would definately drain your oil to the correct level before making any conclusions.
-
I had a leaky oil pressure switch whiched leaked out a silly amount of oil, after replacing it everything seems fine!
-
As kev says, it's all to do with the rotational mass. For example, the futher a mass is located from the centre of a wheel, the greater the moment of inertia so that'll make acceleration slower. But it wouldn't be practical to concentrate most of the mass in the centre of a wheel due to its design, so generally the lighter the wheel the better it is for accleration! When i changed to my 17" ZW1's i didn't notice that much of a decrease in performance or handling.

Everybody goes on about how G60's cost much more because of the charger needing rebuilt but to be honest it only needs rebuilt every couple of years, a charger rebuild is only £400 so if you divide that up per month, it works out at not very much! And the extra torque is definatley worth it in my opinion! G60's are very "fun" to drive!
-
Maybe sounds a little high but nothing to be mega worried about i don't think! You could always fit an oil cooler, that will sort out any worries you may have!
-
I think green is the best colour of corrado you can get! But no matter what colour or engine you end up going for you'll still fall in love with it!
-
Hi all, just wondering where i can purchase a K & N air filter for my G60? Tried looking through PVW but no success! Is the K & N filter the best one to use or is there a better filter i should go for? Cheers, James
-
From what i can see it looks like the oil cooler is in the airflow's direct path, it is mounted on the front crossmember i think. i'm not mega worried about it but if others are seeing 104 degrees then i'm just wondering what's causing so much of a temperature difference?!
-
Hi there, i've recently had a mocal oil cooler fitted to my car as the oil temperatures were a little too high for my liking (122 degrees when cruising at 70mph) however the temperatures are still not as low as i expected, now when i cruise at 70mph it reads 116 degrees. i read in another thread that people find it seldom rises above 104 degrees with an oil cooler fitted? Anyway my question is do you think this is ok with the oil cooler fitted? Is there an oil temperature sensor that could be faulty and reading a little high? Or could the oil cooler be blocked at all? P.S. I just had a new oil pressure switch installed and the oil was pressure tested too, no problem with oil pressure.

My G60 (1991) has air con however i don't think it works anymore so the chap i bought the car from can't have used it very much! I'd like to get rid of the system to be honest, then i'd have room for an intercooler! And my a/c caused JMR all sorts of problems when he fitted a 68mm pulley and didn't have the correct size of belt (he didn't know because i never told him about the a/c so he had to find a belt that fitted on a saturday when everywhere was shut!) I don't think the a/c is worth it in a corrado, especially not up here when there's never any need for it other than the odd day in the middle of summer!

I paid £107 for my SNS stg 5 chip from G Werks, i think it requires about 2 - 3 hours to set up properly but i'm not sure on that! I can't comment on the chip's performance alone since i had a stage 4 charger rebuild and 68mm pulley fitted at the same time but combined, the torque and power increase is very noticeable! However it seems that the SNS chip is chucking in a lot of fuel when driving hard compared to the standard chip so this is maybe something to take into consideration. I only got this chip to use until i've finished modding the engine, once you reach that stage it's always best to get a custom remap!

I have recently had my charger stage 4'd and with the increased flow through the airbox and charger, and although sounding and performing absolutely amazing, the car has become too loud for my personal liking (it already has quite a noisy custom powerflow exhaust on it as well as de cat pipe). I'm interested in buying a Milltek exhaust system from JMR, so for those of you who have a Milltek system, how loud is it? Ideally i'd like it just a little louder than standard but not so loud that it draws unnecessary attention to the car if you know what i mean? And what exhausts do you G60 owners have on your car? What's the most popular choice? Standard or aftermarket exhaust? Thanks for any views on the matter.

I will try watching the engine when someone esle gets home, but as you say i'm a one man band for now! Also when changing up a gear there is a very definite jolt throughout the car, could this mean that the gearbox mount is gone? I would be able to drive 50 miles no problem, but i'm driving from edinburgh to west sussex (450 miles!) lol
