  1. wicked. Thanks for the help. I didn't think so many people would be Corrado-Dads! We've gone for the mothercare traveltot for now, but will of course need to upgrade in the future.

    cheers

  2. I am going to need a from birth (group 0 or 0+) car seat soon (probably before 11th July....) I have just been down to mother care and the nice women there tried their own brand 'travel tot' car seat in the back of the 'rado and said it was fine.

Has anyone else used a child car seat in the back of their 'rado recently? What do you use? There are some old posts about child seats but laws and recommendations have changed since then.

I was surprised they didn't say that no child seat would be allowed to fit into the car

    anyother thoughts?

  3. Just a quick warning. GSF no longer sell Valeo heater fans for the 'rado. The ones they sell are made by Klassig fooker (or something), I tried one of these and it did not blow half as well as my old valeo one. I had to take it back and go to VW for a new valeo one.

  4. Hello all, happy easter.

I think the aerial wire is rattling around in the C pillar, and I was wondering how to best get the trim off and fix it in place?

I am right in thinking that the Aerial wiring runs down the C pillar at the backof the car? If so is it a common problem to have the wiring bouncing around inside? I meet a guy at Stealth who siad he put expanding foam in to stop the wire bashing about, anyone else done this? Or have a link to a thread on it? I have tried searching but to no avail.

So how do I safely get that trim off and have a loo?

    cheers dears

  5. I got a new headlight switch from GPC for ~£36 last week, the one where you push once on the lefthand side to go to sidelights and then again to full beam, I think thats late style (and your would be too?). Easy to fit and the switch feels so much more robust

  6. So where do the 3 cables go to? Does anyone have a good diagram? Is the temperature control on one side of the car and directional flaps on the other? Are there any tips for removing the shelves or is it obvious?

  7. I am having heater control problems (the small shaft on which the temperature gear turns has completly sheared). If I am going to replace the heater controls many people suggest replacing the bowden cables as well. Do you have to remove the whole dash to get to the other end of the bowden cables? Or can they be done by just taking on the central part of the dash which houses the controls and the stereo etc? I think I can handle taking out the centre part of the dash, but the whole dashboard seems a bit much for me and I'd probably need help.

    many thanks

  8. Just reading this thread and saw

just like the adjustable time on the wipers, i never knew about that until i came across it on here!

thought it was a wind-up at first.....but it is in the instruction manual! I always wondered why my wipers seemed to change the interval as if they had 'a mine of there own'....I thought it was my clever 'rado looking after me

I am glad I read random threads every now and then

  9. I have just fitted a new fuel pump relay which appears to have cured my hesitation problems but the blower will only work on Speed 4 now?

I have had a similar problem on my blower. On mine all that has happened is the connection for speeds 1 to 3 has been pushed back with wear and tear over time. Take off the small plastic covering the 3 blower knobs (direction, temperature, speed) and try the fan on speeds 1 to 3 while gently pushing the metal circuit contacts together. If the fan works it's not the fuse just the conenction. I fixed mine with a small peice of card to push the connection out. Even cheaper than a cheap fuse.

Don't want to open a can of worms.....but if the fuse has gone why would the fan still work at all? If this has been questioned and answered elsewhere please ignore me, i'll look it up later.

  10. Tekara the breakdown of cost was:

£49.95 per wheel refurbed (including transport to pristine)

£1.50 per bolt replaced (total of 20 of them)

£20 for the agent to store the car while the work was being done.

thats not inclusing the VAT....so ask for a cash discount :-)

  11. The people that refurbed the wheels also put on new wolfrace valve caps-shiny metal efforts. They looked really good on-and now the local chavs have nicked all four off my car whilst I was on holiday.

When I got new tyres for me old golf they had nice shiny valve caps put on......they lasted 2 days before the chavs got em!

  12. I have just returned from my first driving holiday with the 'rado. Me and my girlfriend spent a week around Pembrokeshire. Was excellent, but thats another story. On the first day the fuse for the sunroof/lighter socket blew (when the sunroof was open), not a disaster as by chance I had a spare. But I was wondering what sort of equipment people keep in the 'rado on long journeys just in case. Heres what I have what should be added? (be a little sensible though I know the heat is going to some peoples head!)

      Fuses 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 amp.
      Jump leads
      Warning triangle
First aid kit (new from VW with all items in date)
      Torch
      Air compressor
      Multimeter
      Insulating tape
Pipe hose and repair tape (from Halfords)
      Bulbs (headlight, brake)
      Bottle of G11+
      Bottle of Water
      Fire extingusher

I think thats about it. What should I add to the list (or taken away)?

  13. A couple of weeks ago I had my wheels refurbished. I thought i'd share the results incase anyone else was thinking about it.

I do have some before pictures somewhere, i'll see if I can add them next week. Before the refurb large flakes of wheel came off everytime I washed them, and each wheel was curbed ~80% round the circumference. What A difference a refub makes.

  14. Well I finally got round to changing the oil/filter last weekend. All went well and didn't spill a drop on the floor. Turned out more by luck than judgement that I changed the oil 5000miles since the last change. The only problems I had were that the sump plug and oil filter housing were on very tight. Was very statisfying though.

Took the car round Pembroke on holiday last week and the oil is still golden.

Now to work out how to change pads/discs and save myself somemore cash.

  15. Can I have some advice also.......please!

Gunna change the oil on my VR6 tomorrow, as it's going to be a rainy bank holiday Monday. This will be the first time I have done this myself. The question I have is.......once the oil and filter are changed will the oil warning light come on when I start the engine? From what I have read on here I don't think it should as the warning light is for low pressure and the pressure is measured in the pump (before the filter??), but I have also been reading Auto Repair for Dummies/Me...this reakons that after oil/filter change the warning light can come on for a few seconds when the engine is first run as the filter housing is being refilled with oil.

Basically I think changing the oil and filter should be a simple job which I am confident I can manage, but I don't want to be caught out if something goes a miss. So if the light/buzzer comes on have I done something terribly wrong or should I wait a few seconds for the filter to refill?

  16. Thanks for the help. I had read a few of those threads earlier in the day, but my search didn't find threads 3 and 5 in the list (which were the useful ones).

Gunna try and order the operating rod 169mm (part number 15 in diagram) tomorrow.......bet I have to buy more than that though.

From the sounds of it the plastic/nylon insert in the ring has worn to far.

Do a non-rain dance for me please.

  17. Hello there,

[email protected] approx## I am currently trying to replace the connector rod, BUT I can't. I can't get the 3 balck plastic peices of trim from the bottom of the windcreen off. They are clipped in place at the front, which I can see and have unclipped the plastic from, they are clipped at the back, which you can't see, but I have managed to free them from there, BUT they also appear to be glued with a blob of rubber in the middle which is very strong. I can't remove the trim from this rubber blob and am afraid I will distort the plastic if I pull too hard and won't be able to get a good seal back on the windsceen.

    please help##

Further [email protected] approx##Just had another look at all the diagram, it appears these peices of trim I talk off don't have to be removed, but the part which the wiper arm attaches to does, back to the garage##

I see from previous threads that others have experienced the same problem as me.

My wiper mechanism keeps working itself free and the wipers stop mid-wipe. I can place the rod shown in the picture back on, but there is nothing to hold it in place. Whats missing? Can it bought separatly? Take a look and see what you think.

Also if someone could post up a photo of the same mechanism with whatever holds it in place I (and probably others, who get in this situation) would appreciate it :).

Other notes: the short rod coming from the bottom of the motor (about 15cm long, shown on the right in first photo) has a lot of play in the vertical direction, I guess this is so it is free to rise and fall when the wipers are working? But am I right?.

When I put this rod back other the pin to connect to the wiper mechanism there is only about 2mm left on top to fit whatever holds the rod in place. and the two rods don't sit flat with each other.

thanks for your help, and thanks to my mate Rob who was with me in the rain this morning and worked out what had gone wrong, the same guy also jumped started my 'rado from his E reg Fiesta last year

Off for dinner, and then to coat the windsceen in rain X and check the BBC weather forecast

  18. Can you let me know the best (easiest) way to Jack up my car? I would like to be able to lift the whole of the front (not just one side at a time), is this possible using a jack and axle stands? Or do I need two jacks? The method needs to be cheap, i.e. no buy a £2000 lift mate, and not damage my car. Why are axle stands called axle stands when you don't put them under axles?

I have searched internet and looked in books, and everyone says something a little bit different.

Am I being thick, or going over the top in worrying about this?

I hope there are others on here which would find this info useful

    cheers
