I've got a 650 on mine & it does take a day to fit. Also just had to take it back because the siren stopped working. Turned out to be "water ingress" and it had fried the controller board too. As it was under a year old, my alarm company changed it out without charging for labour, but I have to wait for Clifford to decide if they'll pay the £60 for the replacement parts :(

If anyone is after one of these new, these guys still have stock at 117.44 inc VAT. Includes the laser detector & a year of updates.

Back when I were a lad (and such chemicals were more readily available) we always used perspex shavings disolved in chloroform. It makes an incredibly strong bond that will also take a bit of flexing if required. Good luck getting hold of chloroform now though :)

I think they are harder to keep clean because the spokes seem to be an absolute magnet for dirt. The RA's spokes have a closer pitch which seems to keep the dirt away for longer or at least make it less visible. Tyres are 215/40 Goodyear F1's - they give the closest circumfrence to the 205/50 x 15's and are listed as the tyre size if you went for 16's from the factory on the Golf MK3 VR6.

Cheers matey. I will warn anyone thinking of RXII's that they are high maintenance if you want them to look nice. Just 5 miles in the dry is enough to start the dust buildup :(

I've had the exact same problem this week & as a long-time VR owner, I've learned the difference between damp & a knackered coil-pack. 99% of the time, it's damp & the cure is easy: 1) Remove all plug leads from coil-pack (note down fitting order!) 2) Spray a generous amount of brake cleaner over the coil-pack 3) Clean thoroughly with a clean rag using more brake cleaner & allow to dry 4) Ensure there is no crud inside and around the ends of the plug leads before re-fitting 5) Coat the whole thing liberally with WD40 & away you go :) When the coil-pack goes, it doesn't ever run right and sounds & feels horrible as you're only running on 4 cylinders.

As kevHaywire says, at least 80% of "it's a good alarm" is the skill & care of the installer. I have used various Clifford alarms on my cars for years, but my local installer is superb (and are fellow VW nuts!) & I doubt it would make much difference what make they used, it's just that their high-end alarm offering is Clifford. They take most of a day to fit the alarm & you'd never know they'd taken the interior apart to fit it after they're finished. For the record mine is a Concept 650 G5 and has proximity sensors, anti-carjacking and all sorts! I just like the fact that it's super-reliable & the install company will stand behind it for as long as I own the car.

Just to add yet another 2p to the debate :) I can see both sides of the argument, but I think what we're really fighting against here is the expectation that "everything on the 'net is free" that many people seem to have. As I'm sure Andi will confirm, hosting is NOT free! The concern that I have is that without regular funding, eventually Andi will find a better use for his time and money. Like many things, you only really see the value when it's gone. On the other hand, putting a formal structure in place can often change the nature of a loose-knit group such as the CF - I think we have something worth protecting & preserving in the CF, so we should be very careful when contemplating a change to a subscription model. So, I guess what I'm proposing is that we keep things as they are at the CF, but that everyone throw a bit of cash Andi's way on a more regular basis. Personally, I'm happy to chuck £20 a year towards the running of the CF, but as Tesco's say, "every little helps".

Drain the 'box & refill with Redline MT90 (available mail-order from Demon Tweeks). You'll need 2 bottles of it but it really is good stuff for 'boxes.

Yep, I've used them on my VR before one of the calipers siezed. Now sold & being used by ZippyVR6, who tells me he's also happy with them.

That's a classic slow puncture scenario. The tyre walls rub & generate so much heat that they literally burn the walls away. In many ways it's nastier than a blow-out because you wind up on the rims before you know what's happened. I have had 2 of these in 30 years of driving. It's bl**dy scary when it happens! Sounds like this bloke was lucky that he made it to the hard shoulder. Now I always stop & check if I hear or feel anything unusual in the tyre department. Better safe than mangled :!:

Yeah, I'm sure they'll just do a DNA match on the blood & determine that Ekiksson was the driver. Of course, being drunk means the insurance won't pay up. I've actually driven on the PCH and it really isn't the sort of road to be doing 120 on (around Malibu anyway). Further north it's much more fun :)

I don't do short runs, but I've just been to Kendal & back this week (motorway all the way) and my Golf VR6 drank 20 gallons of optimax in the 550 mile round-trip. Mind, I did get there in 2hours 47mins & come back only a bit slower!

Matth76 my VR Golf was scraping all over the place with a 55mm drop on the front. Go just over 40mm & you'll be fine, even over speed bumps (an absolute nightmare on a 55mm drop - had 2 new sumps in 2 years & that was being really careful!). I'd say a standard Corrado has even more clearance than a standard Golf.

Gutted for you mate. It's hearing about things like this that make me paranoid about parking the C anywhere public at all. Lovely car, hope you get it sorted quickly.

The 'R' means Reihenmotor, so a rough translation of VR is 'in-line V' - very Germanic!

Mine did this when I first got it. A drop of WD40 in the keyhole sorted it right out.
