  1. Hi, I have my Corrado in bits at the minute doing the head gasket. Its a 2 ltr 16v, Firsly what manifold is fiited as standard to the 2.ltr, is it 50 or 42mm? Secondly I thought about getting a KR inlet cam to uprate it a bit, but them wondered if one had already been fitted. So Can anyone tell me how to identify the difference between the standard 2ltr cams and the KR ones?

What about any dirt behind the shells on the bearing caps themselves? Or are the caps out of alignment?
  3. ah, sorry missed that bit, Note to self. Look at all info before starting to type!!!
  4. Half a day!!!! I did this myself, all you need to do is removed the PAS pump (Three bolts and an adjuster) Then drain the coolant, remove the housing (two bolts if I remember correctly) and change the stat / Housing, The o-rings come with the stat and that is normally good enough. repeat steps backwards to put it back together. Its about an hours job if you do it on your back on the drive, less if you have ramps!
  5. It all depends on how mechanical you are and what equipment you have ie, very mechanical and have large workshop full of tools, with lifts and engine crane = not very hard No mechanical and only a budget set of spanners from the local sunday market = lots of bleeding knuckles and HUGE repair bill!

If you wrecked the bearings, but did not get the crank re-ground, could there be some debris left on the crank from the old bearings that is making it stick?

  8. Thank god for that!!!, I will deffo be buying a new bolt.....and a Workshop Manual. By the way, whats the best manual to get, Halfrauds only have a golf one, I have seen a few on Ebay, but am unsure whether they are good or not? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-COR ... dZViewItem

I am no expert on VW engines, but for any engine with a tight bottom end First thing to check is that you have all the bearings in correctly, and the caps in the right positions Next, check you have the correct bearings, it is possible for the manufacturers to put the wrong size on the shell, so check they are all ok Make sure the thrust washers are positioned correctly and are not jamming? Was the crank reground? Are all the journals the same size, and do they match the bearing shell sizes you have bought? After that make sure the crank is not bowed, if it got heat up enough when it did bearings it is possible for the crank to distort.
  10. BUGGER!!!!! I take it the crank does not have a keyway in it?
  11. Ok, I am trying to do my head gasket, i need to get the pulley off so that I can remove the plastic cover and change the belt. Problem is, I have removed the large bolt in the centre, and although the pulley does move, it does not seem to want to come off, Have I missed something please?
  12. Awesome Car Mate, If mine comes out half as nice as this I wil be happy. Anyway, I like the Stainless injector lines you have, can you tell me where to get some please as I think they tidy the engine bay up no end on their own.
  13. Hmmm, I have been Yanking, Very hard!! Shes stuck tight!

    KR cam swap

Hi, I am in the process of stripping my 2ltr 16v to do the head gasket, and was thinking wether it was worth putting in a KR cam whilst I am at it. Is it a straight swap? or do you have to do anything else. Will it mess up my emmissions? What else is there (other than porting) that I could do whilst the head is off. Is it just the Cam that you swap or is the 1.8 head better so worth putting that on? Thanks Dave
  15. I am doing the head gasket on my Valver, but one of the injectors is stuck fast. Before I start hitting it harder and messing something up, does anyone have any sugestions on how to remove it please?
  16. It must be the gasket season!! My question on is my head gasket gone or not has finally been answered today, got in it after work, it started on three, then decided enough was enough and let me know the gasket had gone by letting out a big cloud of White smoke all the way home  So I am gonna order my bits tommorrow One thing, is it necessery to get the head skimmed, or does it depend on condition?

    Gauge Instalation

Thanks for that Crasher, but is there anywhere in the block i can screw them? rather than removing the other sensors?
  18. Sometimes the white stuff can happen in this weather if you just do short runs, Use to happen in My citroen. To see for sure take it for a long drive to really warm it up, if the slugde has gone, then it is more than likely just condensation.

  20. Hi, My wife bought me some real cool gauges for Christmas (the ones that are all black till turned on!), anyway, I want to fit an Oil Pressure, and Oil Temperature Gauges, but are unsure where to fit the senders. Can somebody help please? Also I think the guy from SWG motorsports was working on a two gauge plate for the ashtray position, do you know if he has started on its development yet? Thanks Dave

    Locks

found an interesting "feature" on my car last night, basically the key only fits the ignition, and does not work in either door, or the boot. Do I need to get all new locks, or can I get a locksmith type person to make a key to fit mine, or can I find a code on the lock somewhere so that I can go to VW and get a key? Thanks
  23. What about BK racing 299, look cool on mine, (see avatar) although I am gonna do the centers black over Christmas and polish the rims
  24. Thats what i am asking, I am hoping that I am worrying for nothing, i just need to know the highest the oil temp should go before being worried
