You'll need over 6 litres to fill a VR, so buy two 5 litre containers.

Any tips for the method/materials used for removing the glue?

Do you think you would have been better with a 205/45 on the back instead of the 215/40. Do you have any pics of how it looks from the back ie arch clearance, tyre stretch? Personally 215 is the lowest I would go with 9s, I'm not going to be running that low anyway due to the massive speed bumps round my house :( Still need to get something done with the arches though before my tyres are destroyed.

9 inch rears, ET15, 215/40/16. Rubs on big bumps and it's not that low. 8 inch fronts, about ET20, 195/45/16. No rubbing.

I had a Nova 1.2 Merit. With a 1.3 manifold. Lowered on rock hard springs, TSW 5 spoke alloys, massive blue sunstripe on the windscreen. My final mod was heavy damage to every panel including the roof, achieved whilst driving it straight through a stone dyke into a field :) Looking back, that was one of the better days in my life!

I think Sikaflex and Tiger Seal are common choices for doing this kinda thing.

Aye, my VR6 is fully comprehensive with 8k limited mileage, £2k worth of mods all for £260 with just 1 years no claims bonus :D

Heat it up, they just about fall off the disc then

Are you kidding  It stands up the temp changes and oil etc?

What do you call the stuff used to seal the chain cover? And where can I get some?

Where is the ABS relay and fuse on a VR6?

Nice one Goldie, good to hear it all went *fairly* smoothly :-P I haven't done mine yet  Was planning on doing it this weekend but been stuck in bed with some kind of virus the last few days :bad-words: Did you put the mani on too?

bumpy bump, anyone help with my last couple of n00b questions?
-
Well after a few more miles I've found the back to be rubbing over some of the bumpy roads round here. Stiffened up the Konis a bit to try and counteract it. Can't decide what to do with the arches now, guy at the bodyshop said he would cut them back a bit and reseal them but I'm not sure I want to do that!
-
I guess this will become obvious when it's all in front of me, but what am I looking for here? What is this, and are they readily available? VW item? What would all the checkpoints be for making sure the timing is correct once I'm done? i.e. what could I bugger up and get in the wrong position? edit: and one more Q - just trying to visualise this, when I take out the tensioner on the back of the head, does that gives you enough slack to remove the cams and sprockets or is there something else?
-
I may be tackling this sometime soon, I've got some 268s to put in and I'm considering changing tappets too. Not gonna do it unless I've a good idea of what I'm doing though, any guides out there or can someone put something together quickly?
-
The rears are 16x9, ET15 Fronts used to be the same but I changed the outers to turn them into 16x8s, and I had to use an 8mm spacer to clear the brakes. Can't be bothered working out what offset that is  The back did catch once today over a big bump, wouldn't like to go any lower without any arch work. The Konis are still on the softest setting which I'm pretty happy about :)
-
I've only had them on a couple of days and I was fully expecting them to rub at that height but it's been ok so far. And that's as low as it can go without hitting the massive speed bumps on my street, so I may get away with leaving the arches alone.

ben16v, I found that loads of people on Club GTI were doing it on their Golfs so started doing it on my GTI. Only ever heard good things about it. I woulnd't go too far with it in though, just a couple of days or so to clean evrything up :)
