  1. Chuff. insured and taxed it... Fitted a new coilpack, radiator thermoswitch and auxillary waterpump. Drove it 6 miles, the water pump burnt out and the radiator split as I pulled in the yard... Hopefully it didn't cook the head as I couldn't get much more water into her as the auxillary pump was rooted. Have bought a new radiator for £85 plus vat, and will try again at the weekend... The bonnet release cable had been rubbing on the front of the rad, and the top tube wore down until it cracked about 4 cm. On the plus side I did get to take the front off so I can tidy the front of the engine up a bit and now know that it's a good solid vehicle.
  2. I had a mini, then a subaru estate and 2 pickups to hoon round the farm. Then when I got my license, I had a MK1 feista 1.1L, Good solid little car. Followed by the Maestro of love, then the valver...

    removing door glass?

Indeed.... Go to a local scrappy. and buy the bit of wire and plug that plugs into the motor from a golf, then connect it straight to a battery. carefully. not setting yourself on fire or generally giving you reason to sue me.... ;) Sorry I can't be of more use....

    removing door glass?

I would make up a bit of wiring loom to the motors, or sit them inside your car and plug them in...
  5. So which one are we allowed to sex pest?

    removing door glass?

Here's a page from the bentley....
  7. Off the top of my head... The lump on top of your air box is the fuel metering unit, as the flap in the intake pipe moves, it allows more fuel to get to the injectors. The metering unit itself is fairly simple with the flap moving a pin inside a tube. There are 4 slots in the tube each leading to the injector pipes. Petrol is pumped into the open end of the pipe, and as the pin moves and exposes more of the slots, then more fuel can get to the injectors. The 9A has a system to shut fuel off when the throttle is clsoed and I don't know exactly how that works tbh. I'd guess at a seal leaking inside the metering head. Try to find a bosch service centre, as they might be able to fix it for you.
  8. For a start buy all new bolts. secondly, don't fully tighten the bolts holding the rear shocks to the rear axle until it is back on the ground and they settle, and finally, drive it a couple of miles to get the suspension to settle before having the tracking done, but not so far that the tyres begin to wear.
  9. That is an awesome colour... I don't really like red on most corrados, but that looks stunning.
  10. I've got an old one knocking about.. I took it off but it turned out to be alright. £10 posted?
  11. I just got a quote for £327 for the VR as a second car from HIC, fully comp. etc. Yay!
  12. Having been fiddling with the corrado for the last few days, I've left a plethora of oily fingerprints over the bonnet, wings, roof, doors etc. Washing it didn't remove them, whats the best option now? Cheers Tom
  13. Cool. The bad news is that my injector pipes have seen better days, but I'll whip them off and try cleaning them up. I don't have a 99 either, just a 91. Any other parts or problems give me a shout. Just noticed your HT leads too. Have you seen the dealer prices ? GSF's Berus are good, and more sensibly priced...
  14. Right... More updatage.... The "Masterplan" was to get the 16v up together, sort the paint, the interior, then put a 2l engine in, and possibly turbo. I've already fitted G60 brakes to her. Since I've been to a couple of shows, I decided that I must get the grey drivers seat fixed and put it back in the car, so I ordered a seat back and a bolster, as the edges of the seat were collapsing. I picked the seat back up today, as I had collected the bolster last week. They came to a total of £86 ish with my CCGB discount, which wasn't too bad. Unfortunately I thought I could afford these until the VR turned up... think I'll be eating tescos value cardboard for the next month... Anyway, the "Masterplan" has been modified slightly... I'm going to leave both cars standard, and contiunue to strive to smarten the valver up. I won't ever sell that car, to be honest. I've put too much into it. I'm running the VR until the MOT runs out next month as an extended evaluation period, then make a final decision. I'll need to do a fair bit of work to her, it needs a lot of bodywork, and a few engine jobs. I'll do it all myself to save money, I'm confident enough to give it a go now so it should be interesting! Hopefully I'll never be at a point when both cars are broken.... But they are corrados! lol.
  15. Yeah they are bosch injectors. Which end of the pipe? the metering head or the injector? If it was the metering head, were the copper washers installed ok? I've got a standard relay I could send you if you want. I'll check the rest of my relay box too when I get a chance... Actually, I'm breaking a H plater, so let me know if you want any bits [/not an advert mods, honest]
  16. I'd strip them back down and check everything.. did you remove any corrosion from the sliding surfaces on the carrier? If they are glazed as MrBeige says, take the shiny material off with sandpaper. Are the calipers moving freely? and the pins nicely greased? What car/pads are they?

    seized coilovers

I'd keep putting penetrating spray on for the week, wire brush them and possibly get some Wurth rust off freezing spray which might help to make them move by thermally shocking the corrosion. Dunno how the coilover would like it though...
  18. The bottom left of your fuse box should contain the intermittant wiper relay I believe, no. 91 or 19 for an early standard intermittant wiper or 99 for a variable intermittant one. If you want new injectors, do a search on merc injectors, they're cheaper than the vw ones but have the KR pipe fittings on, so you'll need KR fuel lines too if it's a 9a. You fitting a KR cam?

    Insuring 2 corrados

I phoned my existing insurers (Direct line) and added it to my existing policy for £50 for the next 3 weeks, until the MOT is up. I'm happy with that. Cheers! Tom.

    Insuring 2 corrados

It seems that they won't cover group 18 or higher cars. Cheers anyway.
  21. I think it depends on the flavour of valver, a 1.8 *should* be ok, but a 2.0 will lose the cat, making MOTs awkward...
  22. Cheers. Luckily I took the picture far enough away to miss the rust and stone chips on my cars... :D
  23. Think they are all one touch down, and drivers side one touch up on some cars... I'll check in the morning. I would imagine that it's a relay that controls this... A mk3 relay might be a possible swap.
  24. ROFL.... But leave Ermintrude out of this... she's a beef animal, she's supposed to be big boned... :D Been playing with the VR again today, and found a couple of bits that need replacing, and sorted a few of the niggles with it... Massive thanks to Goldie who popped up and gave me a hand this afternoon, much appreciated! Took a quick couple of photos of my two roadworth cars and Goldies stunning storm The others can be viewed at: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5
  25. Yeah.. When you plant the throttle and she starts pulling and sucking up small children and careless squirrels, you'll be very much addicted. Have fun with her! Tom.
