Ford, like this one mate? (again from last years Gumball)
-
Ok I saw this at the start of the Gumball last year (similar to show I guess), but does anyone know what car this is because, I don't have a fappin clue!
-
 Try telling the people of Basingstoke that mate!! - they seem to think the things are amazing (especially with 1 real and 3 other fake exhausts out the back!
-
Do the cars from the Gumball 3000 last year in London and Paris the year before count, went to see them off (wasn't tecnically a show!) Or the rarest car in the world, that I have not yet seen - a "nice" Citroen Saxo!!
-
Definitely run it off Super, I think it even suggests that you should in the owners hand book (is it a sugested 95 or 97 RON octane rating minium or something?- think its says it on the sticker on the inside of the filler cap too) I've certainly noticed a difference with either Optimax or BP Ultimate. I'd be interested to know what caused the lumpiness as mine doesn't get used a huge amount and has become a little lumpy on idle too.

what does this mean for us? no more modifications

Fair point Dr Mat - I'm just very sceptic about what the government are doing to our country. Everything seems to be about conforming to what they beleive is right, follwed by a cost to the public. I agree that rubbish/unsafe mods should be reduced but this proposal Takes away freedom of choice a little which is what most people love about modding their cars. If a person wants to fit cheap and crappy bucket seats into his car which look ridiculous but are perfectly safe, surely there's nothing wroing in that? But yeah I agree that perhaps its not worth fretting over until something more concrete gets suggested! (Maybe I'm getting on my high horse a bit too soon here...!) -
I'll be interested to hear what the outcome is incase I get any future problems down there!.... I bet 50p its the tensioner but I'm not a mechanic by any means! My mechanic matey determined my problem by putting a spanner or something metal on the tensioner casing with the engine running, and as he was able to feel an awful lot of vibration coming through the spanner, that pointed him to the tensioner?

But its yet more proposed red tape from some jumped up bureaucrat. Sure mods have to be safe etc. and as many have rightly stated new supsension/brakes etc on a 15 year old car can only be a good thing. But it sounds to me that the government are simply just tackling another side of the motorist for more revenue. I bet those 'super Mot's' will be more about noise and air pollution anyway! -

Oh my god! What CAN we do in the country anymore? :x Maybe a petition put through the Corrado Forum could be a good start... perhaps even contact to other forums similar to this one that cover other makes of car, to do the same? -
What sort of noise is it mate? I had a problem with the tensioner on mine that caused an awful racket (clattery sound). The garage told me it was ok to drive until they got the bits in but 5 mins down the road it give up the will to live causing my belt to break and to a coolant pipe to blow dumping all my water on the road whilst my interior filled with steam!! :censored: A new tensioner and a new belt sorted it.

Just realised this is an old thread! :salute:

oh ok, and maybe an escort cossie.... AS WELL AS the corrado though! I can't ever see me parting with my C, I'd buy an additional car sure, but I plan to keep my VR until I'm old and senile! Anyway enough of the Ford debate, matey with the RS has told us 'narrow minded gimps' that he's left his last thread... probaly gone back to the Trev, sorry, Escort RS forum with his tail between his legs. So would I if I'd let that Corrado go for that silly amount!
-
- I bet he is- he got a genuinely rare car for bargain basment money - who wouldn't be loving it knowing they've got something that simply refuses to depreciate! I think Lee has put it in a nut shell - you can make any car go faster than a standard rado for £5k! Comparison upon comparison (and having seen the 'scort pictures) they both look like immaculately kept cars but the RS will surely loose more money than the C? And simply hasn't held onto its looks over the past 10 years or so? The RS is also a car created from a small family hatch where as the Corrado was intended to be sports coupe from the start, surely the engineering within the Corrado puts most Escorts to shame doesn't it? At the end of the day yeah, drive what YOU want to drive.... but I can't help but feel it was a step down... the only Escort i'd consider is a mk1 or a mexico or something!

result!

Think I paid about £190 all in (inc vat) using genuine parts at an independant VW garage. The passenger side was done about 2 years ago and the right is only now showing signs that it too needs doing.

If you're really stuck, it might be worth asking in a decent tire place - they have people that they can call out for wheels that are stuck on cars. I had a nightmare of a problem where some git of an oily mechanic sheered the head of one of my locking wheel bolts clean off, leaving the threaded part really tightly into hub with no way of getting the wheel off. I was running on 'slicks' and need to get it sorted for the MOT like yourself. Thankfully this was called out and had every possible tool under the sun for removing knackered bolts etc. He charged me £40 and thankfully didn't have to get his brittle diamond drill bits out. I know yours is the centre bolt and not the wheel bolts them self but he seemed to have a tool for every awkward bolt!

C also has more cult status, surely? More potential for it to be a 'classic' in future years.... maybe?

I have the same paint on my VR mate. Personally, I'm not a fan of these as (even if they're not) they look like they've been sprayed. Also (just my personal opinion here) - I feel that smoked lights are a little dated maybe? Its all about personal choice though fella - if you like 'em, get 'em!
-
Should be mate otherwise don't pay 'em!!! I did this on another car I had about 10 years ago;I just usd some very fine pinstriping tape from halfords etc., and some light tinting paint. It was a peice of cake and I really haven't got the patience when it comes to spray painting!! From a distance the lights looked all red, but close up, were a set of indiators and a reverse light all legal. Cheapest mod I ever did, I think!
-
If you're going to spray them black, there's always the smoked option??(although still slightly 'crystal'- ish) Venom do these for £190?. I have the FK crystals on the rear of mine and although they weren't spot on for fitment originally, with a little common sense they were adjusted and now fit completely fine. So far after a year, no misting either. I've heard that both FK and In-pro ones are common to this. The only problem i've had thats similar, is some gunk getting under the lense near the seam which was sorted with a quick blast from the pressure washer.

.... Thing is though seems like the comparison here has turned into a modded G40 vs. a standard Corrado which doesn't seem like a totally fair comparison to me? Plus also, a lightweight car like a polo is bound to have the better advantage than a heavier one off the mark anyway, isn't it? Also I will add that on the track (Castle Coombe) I passed a G40 with ease (don't know if it was modded or standard) and he did seem to be trying.... although the guy in the twin engined mark one soon put me in my place (i.e. behind him!!) Went the following year in my brothers 450BHP RS4, which helped to reduce the people passing so much (there's always someone with something better & faster though!)
-
They'd give a VR a run for its money too? Flipin' 'eck that would wipe the smile off my face! Not that I'm saying that a VR is necessarily the fastest thing on the road, but sounds like the G40 was a good wolf in sheeps clothing car!
-
Defintely count me in if clear ones could be made! - 'Bout time Corrado onwers can update the look of the front of their cars like all the other VW owners! If you don't do it In-Pro surely will eventually?? (although hopefully not like the angel eyes that they produced - I'm not a huge fan of those!)
-
Thanks mate! They're 'Dare Supermesh' 17's. http://www.daremotorsport.net/1100/frames.php (select 'passenger car' and they're down the list a bit) Quite a bargain normally, too!
-
Cheers dude, yeah thanfully it wasn't any worse. Interesting to note though that the Magistrates reduced my fine from £300 to £200 as I had pleaded guilty right from the very first correspondence - Honesty seems to be the best policy! I'll join you in that time trial in a couple of months!! :D
