well it was the head gasket it had blown a hole between cylinders 1 &2. The mechanic couldnt belive it because it has melted the alloy of the cylinder head.

Today i went out for a drive and the car was fine, but it didnt seem to be quite as powerful. we stopped somewhere and we got back in the car after about 30 mins and set off home. After a few mins the car lost all power and when you touched the accelerator there was a really loud rattle. The exhaust also seemed to be noticably louder. I pulled over to see if anything was loose etc, i revved the engine with the throttle cable and the noise seemed to be coming from the inlet manifold. We carried on but when we stopped at traffic lights the car was shaking and vibraring really badly, car also stank of fuel. I have replaced the water pump last week and the stat. Can anybody suggest anything?? Cheers

I was with them for the first year i had my C. They were fine and the best price. Im now with HIC tho after they gave me a better price this time

I have got a knocking noise from the back of the car when i go over a slight bump in the road. The car still handles fine. Could it be top mounts? Is there a way of checking them before buying new ones?

i have just replaced mine its not too bad a job need to remove alternator first. Change the cam belt while your at it unless you know its been done.

Quick question How can i stop the waterpump pulley spinning when im undoing the allen key bolts?

I am also changing the thermostat. Does the PAS pump not need moving to access the Thermostat housing?

ok which bolts are for the pas pump bracket so i can move it out of the way?

I am going to change my water pump and thermostat today as they are both not working. I have a manual for the passat - i have a 2.0 16v. It says i have to remove the power steering pump is threre a way of not removing it? cheers

My passenger door skin isnt sealed along the bottom of the door. Never noticed this before so it could explain my wet carpets. What shall i use to seal it back up? Cheers

the loose one has a yellow wire with a white spade connector. What would happen if its not connected?

There are tow wires on top of the oil filter. Both have spade connectors but only one is connected to anything the other is loose. Should this be attached to anything? Car is a 2.0 16v

those borbets look very nice colour coded bit unsure on the side exit but like you say its different

i was just going to ask exactly the same question my bottom hose is cold and it takes about 15 mins for the water temp to get up to about 80 degrees. Also i had a water leak from the bottom of the water pump - i was losing a pint of water every 50 miles or so. It's now stopped but i am going to change it. Could any damage have been done it's strange that it stopped leaking itsself. Sorry to hijack your thread

Im taking my estorils off the car so i can remove the lacquer and refurb them. the wheels are diamond cut so my questions is do i need them re-lacquering aftrewards or will they be fine without. They wont be going back on the car til spring Cheers
