Nice job! looks neat. Just a quick question..how did u get it to line up nice and flush? Both my doors are way out on the door handle side.
-
Yeah i see your point about the bits adding up and costing a few quid. Might just take the cover off and have a look at the chain like you said. Whats best the best thing to clear the carbon build-up without takin it apart? Redex claims to do this, but does it really work??
-
dr_mat - The fuel consumption is fine, quite good actually. Cheers Stan... I think im just gonna go for it and take the head off.
-
a_riot - Ive been thinking it could be carbon build up too. As i said earlier, the spark plugs are really black. Assuming it is just carbon build up, could it be down to a problem with the head? Im seriously considering taking the head off and havin a a go at doing the valve seals/stems and timing chain as it is quite noisy.
-
Well, its blue smoke, its fine until given a good few hard boots on the throttle and also on the overun. The head sounds quite rough and noisy too, not very smooth... like the cam chain isnt right?
-
Cheers for that! Thats what i thought, the readings sound quite healthy to me which was a relief, i was expecting them to be real lowww... but the thing is, ive heard that high readings could mean a problem with valves sticking or something similar(ive never really had a go at cylinder heads, so forgive me for sounding clueless) Assuming alls good then, what could be the reason for the blue smoke? I also noticed the plugs are all sooty n black which indicates its running rich right?

Hi, Ive just done a compression test on each of the four cylinders on my C, First ones fine, showing 13 Bar which is good as Haynes manual states its the pressure of a "New" engine, cylinders 3 and 4 are pretty much the same, 4 showing 13.5 The problem is that cylinder 2 is showing 14 Bar which is too high. Just wanted to know what this means? Am i right in thinking these results mean theres nothing wrong with the piston rings and its something to do with the head, and if so what are the common causes? Engines a 16v Kr and a bit smokey after its warmed up and given a few hard revs. Other than the smoke it idles and drives beautifully, even though it consumes a lil oil and leaks a bit. Its done 185,000 miles and theres no evidence in the history to say its had a rebuild or head work done on it. Cheers! :)

Anyone seen this?? http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2473647 Amazing!!

Just out of interest... Does anyone have a collection of old Corrado pics? Stuff similar to the one i asked about? Cheers!
-
Cheers DaveStorm!! A line of fresh Corrados... Mmmmmmm .... Heaven!!! :D
-
Wheres the pic?? I Cant see it! :(

I Disagree. I like the way the VW sign proudly stands out, keeps with the original look and identity of the car. A debadged grille loses alot of the character and looks a bit too "MAX POWER" for my liking.

Heres some pics of mine, Hope they help.....

Hi, I know im gonna get told to do a search but i have and cant find anything. Ive got my hands on a set of Wiper/Indicator stalks from a mk3 GTI. Just wanted to know if theyl fit ok on my 1989 16v or what modifications will be needed? Cheers! :)
-
Yeah thats what i thought, short journeys have been killing my battery, worse now its getting colder. Seriously considering getting a bigger alternator!
-
Thanks, always thought a bigger alternator would be needed to charge a bigger battery properly.
-
Just wondering, if installing a higher rated battery on my 16v, would it be a good idea to upgrade the alternator to a higher rated one as well? or would it make no difference? Cheers!

Hi, Ever since i got my C, ive wondered what the little thing that looks like a speaker does.. I mean The little black thing in the centre between the windscreen heater vents? When i first got the car, i thought it was part of some surround sound speaker setup but obviously not! Cheers!
-
Yeah, just noticed your post on there. The only place to go if you have a Mk1 IMO. :)

Checked under the windscreen around the heater intake grille..... Found a ton of old leaves and dirt which has turned into compost and is saturated with water!! Goes to show why it pays to remove leaves and rubbish from these areas as often as possible, mines been hidden and looks like at least 5 years worth. The seals under the grille look like theyve had it and theyre soaked. Just checked on etka, there are 2 seals, Part numbers: 191 820 129 , 191 819 166 Gonna see if i can order them from stealers!

Exact same things happened to mine, bee p*****g down here loads lately, hadnt driven the car for nearly a week. Passenger footwell and rear footwell are absolutely soaking wet, seats are dry though! Gonna get out the VAX and suck out the litres of water out now.. Any ideas why its only the passenger side? Cheers.

Cheers, that would be a great help!
