Hi I've had a good look but can't find the answer - does Halfords sell a clay bar for removing dirt - or do I need to order this from a specialist supplier? And do I apply after I have washed and chamoixed the car but before I polish the car, and then wax it last of all? Thanks for any help.

Water level (header tank) increases when the car is hot

Perfectly normal for that to happen when the temps rise. Every car I've owned does that. -
I had trouble getting hold of Raj at NS Racing too when I tried enquiring about second hand schricks too. However if you send a message to "Dub25" on the vr6oc.com forum he deals with Raj a lot. NS Racing do second hand refurbished chargers for £1k... which is marginally above what you have been quoted for the shrick. You will have to spend a further £300 for a remap at stealth and more for fitting but all in all for just over £1500 I would say that is far better value for money than the schrick... unless Raj can get a second hand shrick for around the £500 mark... then even I would consider one! I think they normally go for around £1200 in most group buys brand new. Shricks are very good in what they do for torque. A few people on the vr6oc forum have said rolling road figures gave them a huge increase to around 220-230lbs/ft torque... which isn't far off the torque figures for a stage one charger. However bhp increase is very small with the schrick.

Just had some 2nd hand 268 Eurospec cams fitted. They had done about 1-2k miles by someone I know. I also had new tappets/followers fitted. The garage that fitted them did a brilliant job and also told me because they were second hand they wouldn't need running in... only brand new cams need running in. Just out of curiousity why is this (i forgot to ask the garage)? And what is the process of running cams in... how are 2nd hand ones different to brand new ones? Thanks for any info.

Cheers for your replies. Is the steering wheel easy to take off? Do I have to turn the air bag off somehow?? I noticed there are two screws on the back of the steering wheel. Is it just a case of unscrewing these? Anyone here taken their steering wheel off before?

Hi Just noticed a strange scratching/mild grating noise when ever I move the steering wheel. Actual steering is not affected and there is no knocking or anything. It sounds as though a bit of grit or something is caught up. Wasn't making the noise this morning only noticed it this afternoon. Although I have noticed this noise before but it was very faint and normally disappeared. Now it is very audiable. What could it be? Is it likely to be dirt or grit that has accumulated through the many holes either side of the steering boss? Cheers for any help.

Seems bl**dy expensive mate! Must be a totally brand new lump for that money!!

An R32 engine can handle up to 500bhp with standard internals with lowered compression. HGP do a twin turbo kit for the R32 golf giving this power which involves no internal engine modifications apart from lowering the compression to 8:5:1. I doubt with just cams and a remap you would get 270bhp from the R32 lump... unless it's the very latest mark5 lump which has 250bhp as opposed to 237bhp on the mark 4. The R32 lump would be the more reliable out of the two but the turboed lump will be far more tunable as it has the turbo - although it would lack the character and sound of the V6!

Hi Just had some new Eagle F1 tyres fitted to my two front wheels. My wheels are the standard 15" bbs alloys. The tyre size is 195/50/15. However I have noticed the speed rating is "82V" instead of "86V" which is what is used to be on my old 205 width tyres. Is 82V fine for a VR6 and is it only the "V" / letter that matters, not the number? What does the number mean.. is it lower because I am on smaller 195 width tyres? Thanks for any help.

Hi guys, thanks for your messages. There doesn't seem to be any wear on the lobes themselves (although there is some strange red colouration/speckling where it would normally be silver - not sure what this is) but the actual grooves/nicks (which are only the size of the end of a small screwdriver, are all the way down the actual cam length.. the other cam length seems fine. I will take some pics when the weather clears here and post a link..it may be a day or so though. If the cams are ok for use I will be certainly using new followers/tappets...is this a good idea or will it make the wear on the cams worse?

Ok... I've just bought second hand 268 Eurospec cams for a golf vr6. I have been told they have done approximately 2k miles. They are silvery grey and I have noticed there are some random grooves/nicks right all the way down one of them... it looks as though it is from wear and tear, and also some strange reddish speckling on one of the 'lobes' where it would normally be silver... my question is will cams normally have a some scuffs and nicks like this etc if they have done around 2k miles?.. I assume they will if they are right in the head of the engine... but need to find out what these nicks are all the way down one of them. Also should the word "Eurospec" be written anywhere on the cams? Thanks for any help. _________________

How much does it cost to have a Gas flowed head or (even more expensive) Big valve head on a golf or Corrado VR6 at Stealth? Has anyone else had this done... how much did it cost and what were the approx power gains? Is it cheaper to have this done at the same time as having new cams put in - would the labour cost be much more on top of having the cams fitted?

Yeah looks very good. I wanted to go a bit lower than the 35-40mm I'm getting but where I live it's full of speed bumps.. and pretty hilly. I could always move house to somewhere flatter :)

Hi guys. Thanks for your replies. Settled on the gmax kit which I'm sure some will dislike as it's a 'budget kit' but I've heard a lot of good reviews about it on the vr6oc.com and it uses gas based dampers which last (apparently.. and have a 3yr guarentee) and do the job...at the end of the day I only want it to be an improvement over the soggy Golf VR's standard suspension and to get improved looks. Drops the car 35mm.

Hi I'm getting a suspension kit fitted tomorrow. I understand there is a 2 week "settling in" period for new suspension. How should I drive the car during this period? Do I have to take it real easy round corners? Will how hard I drive it affect how 'low' the car settles or will it not make any difference? Cheers for any help.

Hi Needing some new tyres soon. Which out of the above tyres should I get... which have the best grip? I'm assuming the ones with the better grip may not last as long... but is there a huge difference between the two types of tyre? Cheers Matt

Hi EIP apparently do inlet/intake manifold for a n/a golf vr6 and claims gains of up to 10bhp and 10 lbs/ft torque. Not as much torque increase as a Shrick but more than half the price (selling for $500 in the US). Is an EIP inlet manifold a good quality product? Is it worth it and can it be purchased in this country? Has anyone used or know anyone who has used one of these? Cheers Matt

Cheers for all the helpguys. Stan, wasn't it your car on the front of PVW mag? It may have been end of last year some time. Got the mag somewhere...I'll check. It was a dark red corrado with a v6 24 swap just like yours... very nice.

Thanks. Are Eurospec a good quality make... are they better than Piper or Kent cams and as good as Shrick?
-
How good are "Eurospec" 268 cams? They are half the price of Shrick cams but I've been told they are basically copies of Shrick cams. Are Eurospec cams very good quality and will they produce similar linear power outputs that Shrick cams do (as opposed to other cheaper makes of cams which only produce increases high up the rev range)? Is it risky going for second hand cams or should I only go for brand new ones? I have found someone selling theirs that are 8 months old with 2k miles on them. Thanks for any help.

Conti Sport Contact and Conti Premium Contact tyres

Looks nasty mate... did the tyres lose grip? Are goodyear F1's better tyres than sport/premium contacts? Do they last longer or grip better in wet and dry? -
Conti Sport Contact and Conti Premium Contact tyres
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Drivetrain
So which is better... Premium Contacts or Sport Contacts... or are they better for different situations... i.e are sports better in the wet and Premiums in the dry.. or vice versa... or is one generally better than the other all round? Thanks for any help as need to get two front tyres soon. -
Conti Sport Contact and Conti Premium Contact tyres
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Drivetrain
I have to agree the sport contact looks a bit ordinary and tacky. I've got one sport contact and three premium contacts on my car. To be honest the sport contact looks cheaper and not as nice a looking tread as the premium. The premium contact aren't far off from being semi-slicks tread pattern-wise. Just wondered if one was better than the other?
