  1. Catch_twotwo I have a golf vr6 which (I think) has even longer gearing than a Corrado VR6, if not the same and when I cruise at 3000rpm my car is doing just over 70. Your gearing sounds pretty good to be cruising at 80mph at 3000 revs. My car also revs quite high after 80mph. 1st and 2nd gearing is good in the vr6 as I can reach 65 in second. Acceleration is awesome without the need to change to third. Not sure what a tdi 5th gear is like (I would assume it is longer than a vr6). However the ultimate upgrade to reduce your revs would be a 6th gear conversion.
  2. I've had a look at my golf's wheel arch and where the tyre sits. When the car is stationary on flat ground I have roughly measured out what I think 35mm drop would look like (with my index and middle finger lol...but on a ruler it roughtly makes 35mm) and I have to say there is still a huuuge gap left between the tyre and wheel arch. I think a corrado must have a lower stance as standard compared to a standard golf vr6 if a 35mm drop on a corrado causes speed bump issues. Such a hard issue deciding what suspension to go for... I need to get it right though otherwise I'm wasting my money. The options I have so far for my golf vr6 are: - gmax kit (highly recommended by The Phirm who are on a par with Stealth) which will provide a 35mm drop all round... very cheap but apparently extremely good quality with 3 year guarantee. £200. - H&R cup kit ...very good quality manufacture but provides a very low 60/40 drop and harsh ride according to Stealth. Will definitely cause scraping issues apparently ...so this kit is a no no :( Although members on the vwvortex forum in the states highly rate this kit. So a bit confusing reports about this kit. £340. - FK Highsport coilovers... Stealth couldn't say what quality these are as they don't deal with FK much. Very little reviews out there and very few people with them. Same price as the H&R cup kit at around £340 mark. Downside only 1 year guarantee...which says a lot. - Again, FK, this time the Konigsport coilovers. Highly rated by several forum members on here and in the vr6oc site. Expensive at £450 mark. I don't need the fancy damper adjustment. I only need a ride height of 40mm all round... so this kit, although very good seems provide much more than I'll ever need. Again only a 1 year guarantee ...which aint so good. My other option are FK or Weitec cup kits. Are these any good? All I need is a suspension kit that is relatively good quality, can be recommended by others and will provide good firm handling in tight corners, firm ride yet comfortable, and most importantly a drop of 40-45mm but no more. Seems a tough one but if anyone can help please let me know. Cheers guys. Matt
  3. True.. what is the standard ride height of a corrado compared to a golf vr? Does a corrado have more ground clearance or less?
  4. Am I likely to have scraping issues with a 60mm(front)/40mm(rear) drop, such as going down slopes onto flat surfaces such as in car parks or speed bumps? Cheers.
  5. How does everyone rate the H&R Cup Kit (which is the H&R springs and dampers)... priced at £340 from Darren at G-Werkes I think it's a bargain and all I can afford as I'm buying a house this summer. What's this kit like (road handling and going round tight corners etc... I use my car everyday) and how long is it likely to last (in years roughly)? It apparently lowers a mark3 golf vr6 60mm at the front and 40mm at the back which suits me fine and should make it look noticably lower :) The golf vr6 tends to sit higher at the front than at the back for some reason... hence the lower drop on the front I suppose.
  6. Cheers guys. What's the general opinion on H&R Cup Kits? How will I tell if the kit consists of a complete 'strut' and what does this mean? Do I need new top mounts and bump stops on the rear too? Are camber adjustment bolts necessary to alter the camber? The kit should lower the car 60mm at the front and 40 at the back... by the way. Does altering the camber depend on how low the drop is and what car it is?
  7. If anyone does know what the likely cost for new bump stops and top mounts will be please let me know. The Phirm are highly rated by PVW magazine who use them for all their cars. Half the price of a main dealer and ten times more experienced and very friendly.
  8. lol... cheers for your replies. How much would top mounts and new bump stops be for the parts and how long to fit approx?
  9. Hi I'm seriously thinking about getting an H&R cup kit fitted on my golf vr6. The kit itself costs £340 which is well below the rrp. However I need to know what other parts might be necessary on top of this like camber adjustment bolts or new top mounts...are these required or anything else such as new polybushes? I am visiting Stealth in March so it's likely they may fit it (if they can fit me in on top of my rolling road session) or The Phirm who are local to me. I know the fitting and laser and camber alignment is going to cost around £200+vat... so that's around £550 in total. Do The Phirm have all the right equipment to adjust camber and geometery etc? I need to know if any other costs are involved or any other parts? Thanks for any help.
  10. What's the difference between Continental "Sports" and "Premium Contacts"? Cheers
  11. Hi I use Continental Premium Contact tyres on my standard 15" wheels on my golf vr6 (the tyre size I use is 205 width, 50 profile, and 86v speed rating). Not sure how good they are but they were on the car when I bought it and seem good quality. How good are they compared to other makes? Do Continental do other varieties that are better than "Premium Contacts" that I should try? Or should I look to other makes? I'm going to be needing two new tyres soon. What tyres does everyone else use on their car? Cheers Matt
  12. Blue95, I'm interested in H&R cup kits which are supposed to be quality. For around £340 they are very good value and lower the car around 60mm at the front and 40mm at the back (far more than any other spring/shock kits and being H&R should definitely last). I'm going to get one of these kits in April or May. Seem very worth saving up for. As said above... will be far better than something that clearly doesn't seem to be geared specifically for your car. G Werkes seem to be doing a very good deal on these H&R Cup Kits.
  13. Hi I'm getting a BMC fitted for free the same day as I get my car rolling roaded, in March by Stealth. I was originally wondering whether there would be any difference to me fitting the BMC myself a couple of weeks before the rolling road, compared to having the BMC fitted literally just before the rolling road: would there be any performance output differences? I thought the ECU would need time to relearn the new settings. I've found out from Stealth that there will be no difference and I will see the performance increase straight away. Stealth are doing the work... I asked them about my question above and this is what they said (in an email): "Would not really be a problem on the rollers if BMC fitted that day, there is no ECU learning under full throttle conditions" When Stealth did my exhaust and high flow cat they did say my ECU would have to relearn the new fuel / air settings and in 50 miles or so following the fitting and rolling road session I would gain another 3-4bhp. Just curious why is this not the case with a BMC induction kit? Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt

    H&R cup kits

    Has anyone used this kit?

    H&R cup kits

Cheers... 60mm at the front and 40 at the back... nice drop and H&R should last. Anyone here know what the ride quality is like with these cup kits? Thanks.

    H&R cup kits

Excellent... thank you. Sound like they lower the car 2" at least which sounds very good.

    H&R cup kits

Cheers. Can't find much info about the "Cup Kits" and what they are and how much they can lower a golf vr6 by. Also are Tuningwerkes a reliable company with good "after" customer service?

    Koni Kit

Koni Sport Suspension kit. How does it feel after a year's use? I'm thinking about getting one of these kits. Are they any good and how much does it lower your car by? From what I understand they lower about 25-30mm.
  19. The very thought of not being able to remove the spark plugs without removing the manifold would put me off. If you're after a bit more power go for a free flowing tubular 6 branch exhaust manifold. I've got a pretty good quality one on mine and it has made a huge difference to low -mid range torque. I can be in 5th gear at 1500 revs and the car really pulls me all the way to red line. Although I have had the chains and new clutch done just recently ...the new chains and properly setting my cam timing has made a huge difference. All the "sluggishness" has disappeared. The Phirm did all the work down here in the south (near Farnham)... highly recommend them mate.
  20. £74 for a BMC... nice price where did you pick it up... is it second hand? I've seen BMC kits advertised on Venom for £145. Stealth do them £160 fitted.
  21. From what I've heard everyone highly rates FK. I have to say I didn't know they did anything other than their coilover kits though. Can't be bad though if it's FK.
  22. I wish GMAX did springs that lowered my golf mark 3 vr6 more than 35mm. All the spring shock kits out there only lower the car a max of 30-35mm. Koni and H&R spring shock set ups only lower the car about 25mm. I did find a JOM kit which uses Koni dampers and lowers the car 45mm but no one anywhere has heard of them unfortunately. I'm not going to risk it on "unproven" suspension. I'm after new suspension to really improve my handling but also actually make the car look lower. 35mm will make my car look lower than it already is unfortunately. Hence I am going to have to look for coilovers of some kind. What I'd really like is an H&R suspension kit that lowered my car at least 40mm on just springs and shocks. However only their coilovers do this. Bit out of my price range at £950 to supply and fit! Are there any spring shock kits out there that lower the golf vr6 more than 40mm that are any good?

    H&R cup kits

Hi Tuningwerkes are selling H&R cup kits for £348 for a Golf VR6. What exactly are these - are they springs and shocks and if so how much do they lower the car by? Are they any good? I've done a search but can't find much info about them. Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt
  24. Update: I've found the VAG part no. on the receipt. It's: VAG ZGB115QLB00406 Is this the correct stuff then?
  25. Cheers mate. I'll do that. Does anyone else on here use Zymol? How good do you rate it?
