Thanks for that will give it a go, think they key is to use glue that stays flexible. Any reccomendation on brand? Evo-stick drys hard. For ref rung VW, £81.21 for new panels and the guy thinks they are stick and peel jobbie.

I allready have the sponge, will probably save a few hundred gramms!!!
-
Yep that will be third port of call. Has anyone bought and fitted new ones??? Do they come with the glue allready sprayed on?
-
Thats a shame bonnet looks cack at the mo, makes the engine bay look scruffy. Thanks guys will drop him an email. Might ask the bodyshop as well.

Hello all, I had to change the bonnet on my C, I decided to take the sponge of the old bonnet and reuse it. Sponge came off real easy (and is in very good nick) and the glue on the back of it peeled off real easy as well. Plannnig to stick it to the new bonnet, my question is what gluse should I use? I am planning to use some of that Evo stick imapct adhesive, the solvent free one so it won't melt that sponge! Does anyone have better suggestions???? Thanks??

Going off topic for 1 sec... ..Exciting times ahead as I have almost got the C back on the road, she is going in next week for bit of paint hope to have some snaps up then. Spec is pretty standard except for Scorpion exhaust and 17" 5 spoke alloys. Car is Moonlight or Midnight Blue (can't remember which!)

I could be talkin pants, as I am new to this. But I think there were some differences. Looking at the GSF parts list the part number for the VR6 top mounts is the same as for the 16v with chassis No (Ch.50-S-000052) and production date > 7/94. See infor below from there website: 45737K STRUT TOP MOUNTING KIT CO 4 Cyl 7/94 > (Ch.50-S-000052> 11.00 Add 45737K STRUT TOP MOUNTING KIT CO VR6 8/91 > 11.00

Thanks for your reply. Bit new to this so no idea! Just rung GSF thoug, very helpfull. They confirmed it has the later bits (basically same as VR6. Got some prices too not bad: 45722D TOP SPRING PLATE-REAR G3 Ex. Estate 4.85each 45737K STRUT TOP MOUNTING KIT CO 4 Cyl 7/94 > (Ch.50-S-000052> 11.00each 45722B SUSP.TOP MOUNT.-RE UPPER CO 2.50each 45722C SUSP.TOP MOUNT.-RE LOWER CO 3.25each Do I need to replace the rear spring plate? I thought there was front one, but they said no!

Hi all, I know there are loads of threads on suspension (think this is part of the problem), but I had a few q's regarding the setup on later models Cs. I have 1995 16v C (N Reg), I am intrested in buying a set of coilovers (FK). There seems to be loads of info on what to change to e.g. VR6 top mounts, spring plates, bearings etc etc. My question is, is my setup different to say a 1994 valver and can I fit VR6 top mounts etc to mine? will I need to change the spring plates? Also what exactly do I need to change on the rear shocks? Thanks

Hi all, As some of you know from my prior thread, I needed to get my bonnet resprayed...finally decided to go for the decent respray option. Sprayer looked over the car and recommended getting the folowing sprayed: Bonnet - due to replacement bonnet Bumper - too many stone chips etc Wings - to blend bonnet in Roof - due to bodged windscreen fitting, which has lead to bubbles of rust along edge. Which some twat tried to DIY spray with aerosol. The sprayer has told me the windscreen will have to come out, to do the roof properly and there is a good chance it will break. My question is what other bits do I need to replace .i.e. the seals etc? Also there are some black metal/plastic bits on the outer edges of the windscreen that look cracked, can these be replaced? Any help appreciated! as the C is hopefully going in sometime this week. Thanks

Yep, think in the back of my mind I know it makes sense! Guess I will go for the full whack and just put the suspension on holf for now. Thanks
-
Hi folks, Needed some advice regarding paint! Basically my Cs bonnet requires repainting, I have been given two options: 1. Spray just the bonnet. 2. Spray bonnet and wings to blend in. My question is, if I go for option 1 (cheaper option), because of the colour of the car (very dark pearl blue) will any colour mismatch still show, or will it be less obvious?

Thanks for that guys! I was having an offline chat with Bally, he recommended John Spademan as well. I have it booked in for a service on Friday as well, they said they will take a look to see if it needs doing and then advise. Out of curiousity I rung VW, they wanted £170 + VAT for tracking/camber!
-
When you say not cheap???? Should I start saving my pennies?
-
Almost have my car back on the road, hoping to have some pics up soon. Can anyony recommend a camber adjustment place in MK? Also do VW do it? and how much do they charge? Thanks!
-
Thanks for your advice mate. I am planning to do the work myself...due to limited funds! Think for the time being I am only going to change the top mounts, is it worth doing the bearings aswell? I am also planning to do diy the engine mounts. Am I better off getting the top mounts and engine mounts from VAG or GSF? Thanks

Just been reading a thread comparing the following cup kits: H&R FK Weitec Must admit FK does seem to get very good comments at that price it is a steal as well! http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1830941 What other bits is it also worth changing at the same time?? Thanks
-
Phil Thanks for your reply! The price seems to good to be true. All I want is to replace the standard shcks and lower the car. The car will probably be driven 16miles a day 'sensibly' on good roads. So no to concerned if it top adjustable or not. This seems like a good name kit to go for as well.
-
Thanks for you replys! Is it pretty obvoius to see which one has gone, e.g. are the 16v mounts oil filled and will this be leaking out? P.S. The car has done 107,000 miles!

When changing gears quickly there is a knocking noise from the front (not evident during slow gear change). As a result I am considering changing the engine mounts on my C, it is a 1995 16v. Is it best to replace the lot or just the one that is knackered? Also does anyong know what the torque settings are for the bolts, when I hopefully do it all back up? Thanks
-
Thanks for your replys! Was considering Koni SSK, but the H&R's kit sounds very well priced.

Just seen the following FK kit on ebay:(£150 inc P&P, is that the right price?) FK Lowering Cup Kit 60 / 40 Shock Absorber & Suspension System VW Golf / Jetta / Vento / Corrado MK 3 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FK-Suspension-Kit ... dZViewItem Thought it was very cheap, even for a budget kit. Just wondered if anyone had tried this out and if it was any good?

Dohh!!! Hope the above helps to give you an idea!

Hello folks, I have chance to buy some spares for my C (1995 16v), just thought I would pick your lots brains to see if the stuff would fit. First of all a rad and fan of an early 16v. Will this fit? Second a Golf Mk 3 GTI 16v gearbox. Will this fit? and is £50 a fair price? Thanks!
