Spencer Tramm owns the corrado dragster... It looks excellent in the flesh... 8)

herisites, you won't be the first to try that mate... I know of at least 3 other people who have tried it... ;) Wayne's not that interested 'cos he's busy enough without having any more publicity! He's just off Junction 23 of the M62, just north of Manchester.

BIG front mount intercooler is pretty much one of the best performance upgrades for a G60, closely followed by an uprated oil cooler.... Cam can add a lot to an already tweaked G60 engine, but won't do a huge amount to a standard one.... Gas flowing/porting will provide you with big results too.... head, inlet and exhaust manifolds, throttle body and charger all benefit well from a bit of porting and gas flowing... 8)

9am->9:30pm is typical of Wayne... he won't stop until he's eeked out the final bhp/torque he can out of the setup you present him with... :notworthy: Glad other people are also using him from here with good results and being pleased with his service... Personally, I wouldn't go to anyone else having had 2 cars done by him now... 8) Anyway, some nice numbers there M15VW, bet it drives a damn site better than those numbers would have you believe though doesn't it? ;) Wayne maps a car to go well, not to get big numbers, so you'll find that you'll happily blat past cars which are producing bigger peak numbers, but that aren't anywhere near as well setup... ;) should be interesting when you get the geometry setup properly and get the map tweaked once again... 8)

basically, the higher the compression, the more "bang per PSI" of boost you get... however, if you up the compression too high, you risk pre-detonation (pinking) and having to knock the timing back to compensate loosing potential power... Standard compression is 8:1 (IIRC, although it may be 8.5 with daz's kit being 9 and mine being 9.5 I can't remember at the moment, to much wedding stuff on my mind... )

G60 box won't improve things that dramatically mate... Get yourself an LSD in there... ;) If I'm unsubtle with mine (when it's running!) I can still get slight wheel spin through into 3th gear if it's wet... If I'm a little more careful (and it does only take a little more care) then I don't get any spin and it just goes like a rocket! My 'ssat TDI 115 estate had lots of yellow flashing light on the dashboard moments (traction control!) until I slung the 8.5x17s with 235/45s on and now it only flashes when I'm being silly or go over a large hump (it's a little oversensitve to humps!) 8)

you need to replace like for like otherwise the pressure activation for the switch will be different and cause you all sorts of potential headaches!

rats.... the joys of not having internet access at home and shed loads of work to do means that I don't always get chance to read every post anymore... :(

to answer both questions: Yup and Yup... 8) Dodgy wiring to the starter motor will effect the ability of the alternator to charge the battery as the alternator is connected to the +ve of the starter and that in turn is connected to the battery... A dodgy connection at this point will limit the current available to the battery to charge it when the engine's running, as well as limiting the current available from the battery to the starter when you're trying to get the thing running...

Yup. Different companies use different piston designs... My 83mm pistons from JMR give a compression ratio of 9:1 where Darrens give 8.5:1 (IIRC, it may be 9.5:1 and 9:1, but my brain's still mashed from the staff do... )

Awww, can only vote once... :( 151,000+ on H-YYU (I think, it may be 14X,000) 253,000+ on J-DUB (Currently resting without an engine) 148,000+ on W-VHN (2000 Passat TDI) 72,000 on FKC-X ('82 MKI Golf) and under 24,000 on the missus' 53 plate Jeep!

Oh, and just to point a little thing out about the Calibra, it was only the base model 16V version that had a really low drag co-efficient rating... they had to put a spoiler on the bigger engined/Turbo versions which made the rating a LOT closer to that of the Corrado... ;) Wonder why they had to put a spoiler on the back?!? ;)

ummm, your water temp gauge was reading 90 and your oil was 110 while it was sat in traffic? They're well within the normal temp ranges.... :| What's the problem?

Oh god, not this old gem again! VW NEVER said that the spoiler increased downforce... It's a spolier, not a wing! You're right about the swirl, but it DECREASES the lift effect by around 30% by spoiling (hence the name "spoiler"!) the airflow over the rear of the car which slows the air over the top of the car reducing the lift effect caused by the shape of the car passing through air. No downforce is produced by the wing... have a look at the mounting brackets and tell me that they'd take enough force pressing down on them to make any difference when driving the car before they broke off... ;) This is exactly the same reasons the TT had to be recalled and have that nasty little spoiler bolted on... too many of them span off at high speeds due to the rear end getting light due to the lift effect... the spoiler spoilt that lift and made the rear end more stable at speed stopping costly law suits... p.s. John, not a dig at you mate, it's a topic that's cropped up quite a few times and is a common mis-conception about the effect of the spoiler which just happens to bug me... LOTS... ;)

seen this at a number of shows and it's an awesome bit of engineering madness... 8) Spencer's a nice guy too... chatted to him at Santa Pod a couple of years ago on the Dubforce stand... 8)

http://www.thinkauto.com/fans.htm http://www.kenlowe.com/ http://www.pacet.co.uk/ 8) I've got the 12" thinkauto fan in my G60 and it keeps it nice and coooool... 8)

there was an episode where Mike got fired by Boyd 'cos he found out he'd been designing wheels for Foose on his own time... Foose's style just boggles me... he's definately of the "less is more" school which is just my kinda taste... He gets my vote hands down... :notworthy: American Chopper's always good to watch... I'm not keen on some of the bikes they do as they can be a bit over the top for my taste, but the quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail is just mind blowing... 8)

Even though I'm a mod, I'm not biased... I've used a lot of firms for bits for my G60s over the years, and I'll give another big vote for G-werks, Pitstop and JMR too... If I didn't like their service, I'd have no quarms in saying so... 8) I've spent plenty of money with these guys over the last few years and would happily do it again as the service has always been excellent and I've always got the advice I've needed when I needed it... 8) Without their help, I wouldn't have a 252BHP G60 to drive! Stealth also has a superb reputation and I've used them lots too, although they do tend to do more with VR6s and 20VTs than with G60s. I've never used The Phirm, but what I have heard about their work has always been very positive... The only company I'd avoid for a G60 is Jabba. I had bad experiences with them (with 2 seperate chargers) and wouldn't go back again, although I do aknowledge that they are doing some excellent work for the 20vt peeps who rate them very highly... 8)

you can't change the individual blades as you'll screw up the balancing of the fan and screw the motor's bearings... AFAIK, you can only get the fan with the motor attached from Euro or GSF...
-
thermostat or waterpump are defintely prime suspects in this one to me... Get an exhaust gas analyzer into the expansion tank to check for exhaust fumes to eliminate the head gasket from the problem.. ;)
-
I still want a tacho like on the Nobles which changes the colour of the needle as it goes up through the rev range... very subtle, but very effective... 8)
-
really need to get the bits I've had for mine since E38 fitted to her and some photos taken... Yours is looking really sweet... Going down similar lines except for the angel eyes... I've got Xenon HID style ones which actually are HID (I mis-translated the german auction   )

yup, change the ignition switch... both of mine have done this too! When you say it broke down recently, did it just die and refuse to start again and then randomly just decide to work without you having to do much other than leaving it for a while? If so, it's almost certainly the ignition switch... ;)

GazzaG60, hey, I'm not too far behind that power... 8) Wonder if my mate'll make up a nice titanium inlet manifold for me? 8)
