yeah, the only problems with the 944 rear calipers that I can see is that they're quite heavy being relatively old and that you need to swap over the link pipe and bleed nipple so that they're being used the correct way up, as effectively, by putting them on the front wheels, you're running them upside down, so the bleed nipple would be at the bottom. Shouldn't be a problem though, as they're not linked internally for the fluid, and the 4 holes are all the same thread (2 at the bottom for the link pipe, and 2 at the top, one for the brake flexy pipe, the other for the bleed nipple... 8) )

IIRC these ones only fit the EARLY bonnet... For a later one, you need the MKIII bonnet lifters from GSF/ Eurocarparts and to do a search on here for the instructions that someone posted up...

you'll have problems with the emissions... A 1994 car will have to pass much stricter emissions tests than a mid 80's engine is likely to go through happily... The reason that putting a NEW engine into an older car is such fun and relatively easy is that you can dump a large chunk of the emissions crud that's added on these days 'cos the emissions tests are based on how old the CAR is, not the engine fitted to that car... ;)

my 1940cc G60's gasket weaped for a good 6 months before I finally blew it.... I just thought I had a leaky flange somewhere (oo-er!!)

Which engine? Can't help with a VR, but if it's from the back of the engine block on a 4 cylinder, I'd suspect that the head gasket's damaged and that's where it's leaking from as that's the only water leakable part on the back of the engine I can think of other than the 2 pipes which connect to the heater matrix...

for the record, there's a hidden bolt which holds the pump on. It runs across the front of the engine (ie the head is towards the right of the engine with the thread towards the left when viewed from the front of the car) and is INSIDE the power steering bracket which bolts onto the engine. If you look at the front of the engine, you'll see that the bracket has a curved bit on it along the front, put your finger behind that towards the pump and you'll find the hidden bolt head.... ;)

fill it with a clothes washing liquid or powder and a touch of water, leave it to soak for a couple of hours, then flush through with a hose pipe. Much better than using thinners/petrol... ;) Make sure it's TOTALLY dry before re-fitting though!

DODDLE to do... setting up the timing properly afterwards is the bit that needs skill... ;)

I've been told LOADS of different reasons that this hole is there, from: "it was there so that they could get the tooling in to make the coolant jackets better around Cylinder 1" to: "the motorsport versions had a secondary waterpump which was powered off the cambelt for desert rallyes" I still don't know what it's for... I had to re-seal mine on my original G60 engine (before the rebuild) and I just bought the correct seal from VAG, plonked it in and re-tightened the bolts and it was fine until the crank bolt sheared...

buy the HDD based unit (Dension) in the for sale thread.... It'll do 256 different colours and even randomly change if you're bored, or change colour with the music! :lol: (mine's set to a nice red colour to match my modded illumination... ;) )

dead bulb... when you hit the pothole it knocked the broken element in the bulb against the other contact turning it on again until it broke again... time for a new bulb....

Welcome.... 8) From a confirmed G60 loonie, I'd advise trying out both G60 and VR6 flavours of the Corrado and seeing which suits you better.... I love the G60, but I can appreciate the VR6 is a cracking engine too... 8)

potatonet, spray the mechanism with some white grease ASAP else you'll snap the cables! This is what causes the wear and breaks them over time... The passat roof uses (as near as damn it) the same mechanism as the Corrado one, they just don't seem to get used as much in the passat so don't seem to break as often... either that, or the quality inspectors at VW were stricter than those at Karmann when the roof components came in from the suppliers.... :roll:

I may have stumbled across rather an interesting upgrade at Dubfreeze 2 years ago while chatting to a guy about his Type 2 camper which was running Porsche 4 pot calipers up front... They're the rear calipers off a 944 turbo (which also has a drum brake for the handbrake, so that's not on the caliper) and you can pick 'em up for about £60 per pair! They run on 300mm disks on the 944, but will clear the 305mm disks off an Ibiza coupra and, as far as I can tell, will also fit the VAG carrier that's used on the Brembo conversion anyway, so the only other bit left is the brake hoses which won't be hard to make up... I have a set of these sat in my lockup at the moment, and I'm aiming to check if they'll fit as easily as I think they will over the next couple of weekends if I get any spare time... Basically, if they fit, then it means that you have a 305mm, 4 pot, Porsche branded Brembo calipers bolt on upgrade for about £250 all in! 8)

biggrim, you called? :lol: Jay? I've been playing with this idea for about 2 years now! It's UBER cool if you can build the screen in neatly... 8) I've got a old Toshiba Libretto which lives a docking station on my glovebox lid. Admittedly I have to have the glovebox open to use it, but it's wired into my GPS tracker to give me GPS navigation (the tracker has the standard GPS signal output via a serial port) I bought this a while back as I wanted to see if I could get XP to run on it (you can!) as it's only a Pentium 266, but it's a fully featured laptop, just the size of a VHS cassette! 8) I'm going to do a new install soon, using a touch screen and another laptop (P4 2GHZ) I have which has a broken screen... IMHO, you're DEFINATELY better off basing any car-puter around a laptop... preferably one with a dead screen which you can pick up off ebay cheaply enough. The main advantage is that it'll have all the cooling stuff built in, and you'll be able to re-wire the lid switch so that it'll go into suspend mode when the drivers side door has been closed after the ignition is switched off, and automatically turn back on again once the ignition is turned on again... ;) Power adaptors are cheaply available to convert your 12V car system into the correct voltage to charge up the laptop, and you're only ever going to be trickle charging the laptop while the engine's off, so you won't kill your battery over-night... ;) Added advantages are the PCMCIA cards are cheaply available, and if you can get a high spec lappy with a dead screen, you're gonna get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DVD, CDR and the like as standard already in a nice small package... I'll dig out a couple of links I have for some rather nice software (it's french, but translated well into English) which you can use as front end software for your carputer which makes using it a doddle via a touch screen and works with all the usual PC programs like Win-amp, Media player, Win DVD Autoroute etc... drop me a pm if you want any more details... 8)

JT-G60, yeah, used the inline fuse and wired it off an ignition live so that it turns off when the engine's not running... (don't see the point in having a GPS camera detector running when the engine's not on! :lol: )

dinkus, carefull now... :roll: Yaris are very good, reliable and well specc'd for the price KA seem not to loose much money if you pick one up at a reasonable price VW seem to be heavy on insurance Seat arosa seem to be very nice little cars and are what I'd aim at having a really good look at All purely my own opinions... ;)

it's called compound charging... VW are building 1.4 compound charged engines for the new golf which produce a healthy 170bhp! AW tracksport (TrendyTramp over on Dubforce) has built a couple of engines which are compound charged... If you've been to any of the big shows over the last couple of years, you've probably seen their metallic red, fully caged MKII golf which had no front end other than the cage. That's got their compound charged engine in it... 8) There's no reason a G60 supercharger couldn't be used, in fact, it'd probably work rather well with a small pulley to give massive low end power... you'd then put a clutch on the charger pulley so that when the boost from the turbo kicks in and matches that from the G60, it'd stop spinning the supercharger and just rely on the boost from the Turbo... Should make for a rather special combination if you can get it set up properly, it's just a case of working out who to get it to swap between the supercharger and the turbo without any loss of boost.... 8)

as daft as it sounds, a light coat of WD40 once a week will help stop corrosion to raw polished alloy wheels over winter... just make sure you don't get it onto the brakes!!!
