all car hunting has stopped because: 1) I need to sell at least one more of my 3 cars (already got rid of one when I sold the house!) 2) I get married in December and need the cash 3) We're house hunting and another car isn't a priority at the moment... Pointers? Find yourself a nice, high milage Passat TDI 110 for cheap money with a good service history, throw a re-chip at it and save a bit of cash back to sort out any niggles that may crop up as they're proving to be pretty bomb proof from what I've seen... My mate's just got one for 2.3K on a 02 plate with 120K miles that's been well loved and it's a little cracker! 8) Either that, or get the Skoda or Seat version for even less cash and de-badge it! ;)

brake compensator valve normally just needs a spray with Plus Gas, leaving for 30 minutes and then hitting with a hammer and then wiggling around to free it off.... My corrados have consistantly almost failed their mot on them. If it weren't for them being friendly MOT testers that know their way around VWs I'd have replaced quite a few rather than just doing the above by now... ;)

think he's keeping it a bit of a secret...

...I think it'll look good on the new rims Jim...

'ello and welcome... nice looking motor you've got there... 8)

nope, just 3 plugs, one main feed (the 3 colour one) and then 2 on either end of the link cable. 3 wires in total: Shared earth Fog lamp positive Reversing lamp positive Trust me on this one, having rewired my tailgate on both my 'rados there's still parts of my body with scars on them 'cos of this wiring... :|

what coolant are you running, and is it nice and clear or full of rust deposits? Rusty coolant will kill the BTS pretty quickly as it builds up on the aluminum sensor and stops it from reading properly...

faulty ignition switch? Does it turn over and over but never fire? Is there voltage to the coil/coil pack while cranking?

the only pipe that's got a critical length is the one from the throttle body to the ECU. All other vacuum pipes must stay the same internal diameter, but the length is not important... ;)

check the wiring to the idle switch and make sure that the switch is being activated when the throttle pedal isn't pressed. Sounds to me like a dodgy switch problem as the car should idle around 850 RPM and will idle around 1200 to 1500rpm when the switch is disconnected which fits your symptoms nicely... ;)

that's all fine mate... The wiring loom for the tailgate runs down the left side of the boot lid (looking from the back) and into the left rear light cluster at the top. This has 3 wires - Brown wire = shared earth, Red plug = fog lamp, black plug = rev light. There's then a second connector which links the Left hand cluster to the right hand cluster as they don't need to have any different signals (either both lights are on, or both lights are off for either Fog and reverse!) so there's no complications like with indicators... ;) If you follow the little silver connectors on the boards you'll see that the connectors are both joined pin for pin... Do your fog lamps work? If so, I'd be checking the fuse box as I'd put odds on that the reversing light fuse has gone... ;)

there were a load of reports about a black panther in Ossett a few years back which turned out to be my Ex's pet cat Boris... He was a BIG black cat, (tall, long -tail to nose - and muscular too) and the locations that he was spotted in played with peoples perception of his size making them think that he was 4 feet tall instead of just over 18" It's very easy to see something and get your perception of size confused due to the location and lighting of whatever it is you see... :shocked!:

I've now ploughed about 12K into my 'rados in the couple of years I've had them... and I'd do it again... they've kept me occupied, kept my mind going, entertained me and kept me safe in what could have been a serious accident when someone pulled out in front of and wrote off J-DUB... 8) I originally bought J-DUB 'cos I commute for an hour in the morning and then again in the evening and I wanted a car that was comfortable, nice to drive and quick when I had the opportunity to use it... the fact that it's 15+ years old now and that I can maintain (and modify!) it myself means that I actually SAVED money over a newer car, although that saving tended to be eaten up by yet more modifications...  Yes, they're frustrating when something goes wrong (like the brakes on H-YYU at the moment! ) but when they're purring along smoothly or blasting along maniacally, you just can't beat them for the money... 8)

yup, same thing happened to my Dad's Leon TDI...

But six spokes just look sooooo much better... ;)

grease the shaft on the gearbox that the friction plate slides onto (or the center splined hole of the friction plate, makes little difference either way)
-
nah, it's the standard VW green stuff... The only way I've ever found to get knackered jubilee clips off is with a sturdy pair of side cutters onto the side of the worm drive... :|

your timing pulse from the alarm needs setting up properly so that it holds the pulse long enough for the windows to close fully (around 25 seconds IIRC) You need to find the model number of the alarm and get hold of some setup instructions to get it to do the correct length pulse... ;)

rubber pipe going onto a metal pipe which goes through the panel under the radiator, turns 90 degrees, runs just behind the spoiler for about 18" and then turns back and goes out back through the metal panel under the radiator? Yup, that's the power steering fluid cooler pipe...

done quite a few drag strip days at various strips, and have done Bruntingthorpe with Performance VW magazine and Curborough sprint circuit with Club GTI. I'd be well up for some proper track action though, I was planning to do Oulton park, Donnington and Croft last year, but had engine problems which put a halt to those plans... :( The good news is that the problems are now sorted out, so I can play properly this year if there's some good prices available for track days.... I'm seriously interested to find out what my little baby can do around a circuit... 8)

yeah, but Tim retired and I seriously doubt that he'd want anything to do with the company anymore...

they've dropped in price since I needed one for my MKI! 8)

£1280? Sh!t, you can sell a G60 engine without charger for almost that! :| -
you seriously reckon that fitting a later, standard VAG VR6 gasket will knock the compression ratio up by 1/2 a point? :| If the standard Corrado gasket were a 6 layer gasket and the new one was a space age material 3 layer, then you'd maybe lose, what, 0.5mm of height when it's clamped down with the head bolts? Compression wise that's gonna make as much difference as farting into the inlet... Hell, Once the standard gasket is compressed, about the only way you're gonna lessen the distance from the head to the block is to not use a gasket, but I don't think that'd do your compression much good!
