Haven't made much progress with this lately - have got a mk3 GTI as daily driver and been to the 'ring in it with fellow baldie PhatVR6 to get my 'ring fix'
EIGHT valve power (or lack of it!)
Need to get all the boost pipework and plumbing done then we'll be getting somewhere.
-
The kid in me says "screamer", but with track days/noise limits it better get plumbed into the DP.
-
Timing chain shizzle
Back together , with schitty Helix clutch and atmospheric enhancer.
De-blinged 600x300x65 Ebay intercooler, bar and plate design.
Peloquin diff, changed to 3.3fd , it would only do about 160 on the old 3.68.
Vibratechnics rear engine mount, machined down in height -15mm to make engine sit level in the bay.
No I haven't painted the block. It's a Boat Anchor = rusty iron.

I can't look on club gti :cuckoo:

Well yeah, it will feel slow. You practically had no wastegate before! It's insanse how quick the turbo boosts with no wastegate intervention.... you were lucky you didn't A) pink the engine to death and B) strip the teeth off 3rd and 4th gears.Reminds me of the time about 15yrs ago we put a truck actuator on a Series 1 RS Turbo
'just to see happens' :cuckoo:
Well. what happened was.... the wastegate stayed closed and it blew the ringlands off a piston

Well worth doing eh!
-
It's a shame as we were very close to sorting premises etc but never mind!
-
Not in the near future no.
Life has gone t1ts up for me hence back on the 'Eastside' where I'm originally from.
-
Thanks for the pics of oil cooler - I'm being tight and don't want to buy new hoses so I'll just see where it fits and mount it where ever  If I have to cut the bumper its no big deal as it's only the outer skin anyway. All the irons have been removed just left a bit each side to locate the bumper.

Hey mate I just noticed you're now in Cambs, where abouts?Loving the build by the way, but then I loved the ABF build when you had that as well..... think it's the black track mk2 thing...
I'm nr Wisbech

Ben - 4" Cone filter/MAF housing from C2 motorsports UK
any 4" (100mm) filter will do, longer the better :D
-
I'm undecided about oil cooler location as will have intercooler in front of rad where i used to have the oil cooler, thought about fitting it in old battery location and then add some holes in the bonnet to vent the heat from it ( the bonnet is dented etc so it wouldn't hurt to experiment)
-
Non-chav boost gauge to match VDO oil pressure gauge
4" MAF housing to 'trick' ECU into supply more fuel, as per highpowered OEM vw/audi forced induction vehicles
-
Something to look forward to then

James, I'm going to run it at 1 bar boost pressure which should give the mk2 about ~400hp/tonne (dyno lottery)
Reason behind the 1.06 housing was to make it slighty *less* responsive than using a smaller housing which should give the transmission a slighty better chance of survival. Added to the fact I'm keeping the 268 cams in there, I don't think it'll be short of power at the top end. 630cc injectors are fitted so I can use another ECU for E85 and turn the boost up for a top speed run,as they're a bit overkill @1bar boost really. 630cc injectors and C2 60# software supports up to 500hp, turbo is good for 600hp.
As it's a light car I don't think the choice of a larger housing will hamper it's progress much...
Looking forward to getting it finished!

It's a 38mm from Precision, the turbo is a tighter fit than the WG
-
Fitz nice'n'tight - heat sheilding needed for column gaiter/clutch m/c and pipes!
Precision wastegate, Seimens 630cc injectors

mk2 VRT inspiration

We had some good races that day, eh Paul

Was not sure of the rules with that, I do apologise. I'm not in the Midlands anymore, anyway :brickwall:

It's funny reading back and realising how much has changed and how often I've contradicted myself
That is true, you do change your mind to suit your current spec
I've just put a Helix paddle clutch in mine, it better last
I made a new stock clutch last 4yrs on my NA VR, that's with road, track and 1/4mile use.
