  1. i think it must be running at least 300bhp, but who knows  see what the diagnositc says, maybe i will put it on another RR before i start having a little play... Marcus seemed to think it should be between 320 and 340 so if there is something a miss im sure it wont be lnog before its sorted!!

The surrey RR is known to give low numbers compared to other dynos so I would get another one done, or perhaps 2 more and take the average. Every dyno place claims to be the most accurate mate, but they all use correction software to 'fudge' the crank power figure. So take the numbers with a pinch. Just use it as a guide only. I wish the UK would just use wheel hp like the yanks do!

Just stumbled across this post (browsing VRT stuff ya'see)

I recently had my mk2 VR6 on a Dyno Dynamics RR down nr Cheltenham @ Ajec racing (Same set up as Surrey RR)

By chance bumping into Bill Badger5 this morning... Had the car on a Dyno Dynamics rolling road today at http://www.ajecracing.co.uk near Cheltenham.

    Output = 205.2hp which I'm pleased with.

Everyone agreed it sounded nice too!

Previously in same spec @ Stealth put out 216bhp. Was 205 @ Ajec. So an 11hp discrepancy, not the end of the world but as Kev says above, the Dyno Dynamics dyno's do give lower figures than others.

My other half has an Edition 30 mk5 GTI and on JKM's DD rollers was cock on 227hp (230ps) With Revo stage 1 278hp 310lb/ft (Revo claim 300hp) I've done the old 'maf g/s log and divide by 0.8' to roughly calculate hp on the mk5 and it came out 282  So tend to think the DD rollers can't be far off 'the truth'

I know that Vince uses a different ambient temp correction on the turbo cars than NA as can remember running my old 16v years ago which suddenly had +10hp from nowhere! Once the correct ambient temp was added it was back to where it should be

  2. Yeah that's true actually. I know, I can't do anything without VAG-COM. I've got VAAG-COM just not got the proper lead. I have a cheap one but it doesn't work. Is there any way of getting it to work do you know? When I go in to the Options and test the COM port it finds the lead and says all is OK but when I go in to scan Engine Codes it can't connect.

There's a check box on options page that says 'force dumb mode' - try that when you test the port.

If using USB cable you may need to get a serial-usb driver and install into vag-com folder too.

  3. Dave, are you going on track at Combe Autometrix day? Tempted to book up for the PM sessions.. :norty:

No doubt it's quick @ 0.8 bar but when my friend Alex's stripped mk2 16vT (Stealth built) did a 12.97 with approx 360bhp on the Sunday, you've got to doubt the 13.1...

  4. Well, these two sets of numbers are on the same rollers...probably as close a comparison as we are likely to get for a while.

Sorry they are scanned, I used to have the Dynoplot software and always get the files from Vince back in the '16v' days.

  5. no no you can fit the 02M components onto the 02A gearbox. I dont know the details, cos i didnt do it, but phatvr6 has done it before. I think the mechanism just plugs into the top of the gearbox.

edit: maybes it should be called a mk4 shifter to avoid confusion because you get the mechanism off a mk4 with an 02A gearbox i think.

    Awesome project

Regarding the mk4 shifter swap, I got some bits from Paul (phatvr6) to do mine in my mk2 VR6. Basically you can use any mk4 shift lever, even a 6spd one with the cables, then you need the corresponding 5 spd 02J tower for the top of the gearbox to match the cables, as some have parallel pins and some have ball fittings.

Only other thing you may have to do, is the tower support in the base of the gearbox ( 2 bolt fitting, has a vw logo on it) is sometimes a different diameter to match the tower you use and you have to change that also (I didn't need to)

Well worth doing, as the regular 02A shift is generally vague and cr*p in my experience. :cuckoo:

Shiny fore-aft lever is from a TT to reduce the throw.

ps - sorry for thread hi-jack :gag:
