  2. Sat pm

    Getting busier now the Sun was shining again - the track dried up really quickly, which was nice !

    Marc from http://www.mw-sportfoto.de caught us at Hohenrain.

    Lizard and Steph turned up in Alex's E36 M3 , they were heading across the alps to Monza the following week.

    Das Chin was over in his mk2 Golf.

    During the weekend, I was gradually carrying more speed through some of the faster corners, Flugplatz for example , carried more speed through and on one lap Saturday afternoon saw 140mph over the crest before SX :blink:

    I was travelling faster into SX than ever before and things were getting a bit interesting, even more so when I braked heavily for Aremberg and the rear brakes locked up. Bit of a brown pants moment but no harm done. :nono: I think they call it 'backing it in' on the Superbikes - I was heading the wrong way into the corner tho.... :shf:

    Jochen was up at the Karrusell Saturday afternoon, he got a great shot of us.

    Huge thanks to Jochen "The Eifel Yeti"

    Nigel's clutch decided to stop him selecting gears so he and roland (pye21) did a lap in 4th gear, I had a look at all the visible bits on the clutch system and advised the clutch was "fecked"

    This meant that Nige could have more than 2 beers that evening.. more on that later.

  3. Written on a Northloop.co.uk - so members names mentioned may not be relevant here.... anyway

    To say that I was looking forward to this trip, was a bit like saying Karl enjoys a few light ales on a Saturday evening in Adenau.

    This weekend it would be my girlfriend Claire, myself and the GVKwagen, we knew there would be lots of friends old and new at the 'ring so was ok to go "on our own".

    Weds left work early so we could hit the road and make our way to Dover where we'd booked a b+b for the night. As it's the middle of UK summer we had torrential rain alll the way down the M40/M25 on our was "daaan saaarf" - which made driving very tricky on R888 'reifen'

    ring2008bvf072640x480.jpg

    ring2008bvf071640x480.jpg

    Lots of aqua planing and "shiiiiit" from me as the Golf slithered from lane to lane onthe motorway. Somewhere south of Brum on the M40 there was a blue GT3 smashed to bits in the middle of the road, might have been wearing Cups, but it was dark so couldn't tell you....

    We decided just to drive bloody slowly in the end as it was bloody dicey, and so due to our much reduced pace southbound we didn't get to Dover until 10:55pm.

    Got to b+b and George greeted us and showed us to our room, which looked exactly the same as it did 4yrs ago when we stayed there en route to the 'ring - the last trip for the Golf.

    Thursday

    Up and having breakfast for 7am and the short drive through the town to the docks where we more or less drove straight in and onto the ferry - sat in line for a few mins

    ring2008bvf075640x480.jpg

    Noticed lots of classic cars at the port , wondered if it was Le Mans classic weekend.

    Once in Calais 10:15 local time , we followed the Sat-Nav for the first time across France, Belgium via Brussels, up to Aachen and down the A1 to Blankenheim .

    n656037245_1113457_3294.jpg

    Seemed a long way around but we got to Adenau by about 3:30pm - seemed quicker than the "John Felstead" route that I've always taken (Lille,Mons,Leige,Spa,Prum,Gerolstein etc)

    n656037245_1113459_3963.jpg

    Mav had sorted us out with a really nice place to stay near the Blaue Ecke ,and Micheala was "on duty" to check us in, she was very friendly - hadn't met her before.

    With our baggage unloaded we drove toward Nurburg via Quiddlebach as had offered to collect Nige's car for him so he could get out on track early Saturday. Ken's place was exactly where he'd described so we were ok to find it Friday morning.

    Once in the car park in beautiful sunshine we were met by Steve (Hobgoblin) and Nigel (vr6goth) who asked if I was "Mr Blofelt I presume?" LOL!

    Stood around chatting until the start of TF - Purchased an 8 lap ticket 135

  4. But its hard going aswell as expensive. Have to wear helmets and long sleeves and trouser, windows shut etc. In the summer its a killer

    Why do you have to keep the windows closed? I know it's a requirment, but I don't understand why.

    If the window is lowered into the door, you won't get a face / helmet full of glass in a side impact. You're a lot more likely to if it's raised!

    I know that from experience of road accidents.

    What about sunroofs, do they have to be closed aswell?

    I can't drive with windows and roofs closed, I hate it! My window is open all year round.

    Until the window smashes it'll do a great job of keeping arms and legs flailing about in the wind as you roll over... :grin:

    You can have your window open ' a bit' as long..... as it isn't open all the way when you leave the pit lane ( when the pit lane marshal 'should' check it)

    Seen quite a few cars with open sunroofs on track, depends how picky the marshals are really...

    And yes, track days are expensive. :sad: I used to do them once a month or so... I think a crack cocaine habit would be cheaper :nono:

  5. Kev?

    Is that you?

    I think his account has been hacked by somone from Detailing World :D

    LOL :grin:

    Even funnier is I read that imagining your Brummie drawl saying it :tongue:

  6. It might be a bit heavier than a mk2, but it's drives really really well, I was impressed, and as I said, never driven a Corrado before.

    It's all good mate - got the gadget all installed last night :wink: switch was binding on the case so I just drilled out the hole :nuts:

    I need to get some more CF and I may have a look at trying to mount it flush rather than 'on top' of the CF.. :norty:

    Thanks again for building it :clap:

    I think Steve will need a diff in his as I bet he won't run it on half a bar :cuckoo:

  7. Ross-tech site states

    "

    Here's a good sanity check for the status of your MAF. Do a full-throttle run all the way to redline in a single gear (second works fine). Group 002 usually shows air mass in g/s. Your peak airflow should be roughly 0.80 times your horsepower. So, if you have a stock 150 hp 1.8T, expect around 120 g/s. If you have a 201 hp 24V VR6, expect around 160 g/s. If you see significantly less than that, you MAF may be on the way out. This still works if you are chipped, but "race" programs may make more power through timing, rather than airflow. Therefore, take all readings with a grain of salt."

    I've done various logs on different cars on vag-com and calculated the bhp from it, suprise suprise it can be less than that car has made on the dyno...

    My VR6 shows 152 g/s flat out = 190bhp Has been 200+ at Stealth evertime.

    mk4 Golf R32 with Schrick 264 cams and Revo 215 g/s = 269bhp (pretty close to what it was at Awesome-GTI)

    mk2 20vt with TT lump 177 g/s -221bhp

    Any thoughts?

  8.

    Good opportunity to fit a LSD, when doing the clutch/flywheel :wink:

    Go on Dave, you know you want to :luvlove:

    I think in was Corozin (John) who said, "you haven't really driven a front wheel drive car until you've tried one with an LSD" and he was definately right. Thanks for a drive in yours Gary, MK2 VR6 is an awesome combination. So well sorted and handled really well, think my brain was trying to get out of my ear when you gave it some around that island :D

    No worries Dave, good to have feeedback on all the hard work over the years :grin:

    Saw your car at Stanford, looked very clean 8)

  9. I remember on my mates VR Corrado, it was smoking on over-run, he pulled the head off and I inspected the guides - were very worn "dick in a shirt sleeve" is how I described them. He had the guides done and it was just the same. :sad:

    Thinking out loud, can you fit a Golf 2.8 block to a 2.9 'rado lump?

  10. Have the same code on my mk2 VR6 running OBD II, 268 cams and a 6lb alloy flywheel...

    I have also a maf short to ground code and a lambda code too, which I guess doesn't help. :nono:

    Lambda voltage doesn't change so I guess that's kaput.

    From ross-tech...

    00533 - Idle Speed Regulation: Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded

    Possible Symptoms

    * Bad Fuel Economy ...duh, it's a VR6!

    Possible Causes

    * Air Leak between Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor and Engine I get a whistle on part throttle on the motorway?.... poss inlet mani gasket leak??

    * Injector(s) faulty

    * Fuel Pressure Regulator faulty

    * Throttle Body faulty

    * Intake Air Filter dirty

    Possible Solutions

    * Perform Throttle Body Adaptation - not done that

    * Check Hoses and Pipes to/between Components

    * Check Intake Air Filter it's under the wing,so it could be dirty...

    * Check Fuel Pressure Regulator replaced with a 3.8bar fuel reg (new) from Vauxhall... very cheap...)

    * Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve ain't got one

    * Check Injector(s)

    I can't hear any air leaks on idle , but not sprayed anything around the intake to test,yet.

  11. The two old boys based at Silverstone.

    can't remember their name though, all the racing teams use them.

    http://www.jprace.net/

    Not used them personally but have heard good reviews.

    One to avoid is http://gearboxman.co.uk nr Luton , they took months to build my 'box... all they had to do was swap a mk3 Golf 16v internals (3.68 FD) into a VR6 casing and add a Peloquin ATB which I supplied. :shrug:

    Kept making excuses about race cars needing repairs... :wave:

    Box is noisy (gear mesh type noise ) but has held together well, to be fair.
