  1. Kev, what rate springs did you spec with your Gaz gold kit, and did you get the kit from Julian @ Balance? Drop me a PM if you'd prefer.
  2. My FK coil overs have T/A Koni yellow inserts anyway, so I wouldn't really gain anything by fitting Koni coil overs imo. Chris, it doesn't do any of that oversteer anymore, so something needs to be done! I have been chatting to Ian Carvell about the rates they used on the Vento VR6 challenge car that Rob won the VW Cup in, in 2001 - "They used to run very high spring rates something like 1200lb F and 1000R on slicks and @900f 800r on D01J's. But I am guessing the Vento was a bit longer wheelbase than the Golf 2." As I still drive it on the road, those rates would be totally unsuitable, but the stuff that's on there now isn't good enough for the extra weight of the VR... I still have not fitted those springs you gave me either..oops. I know the springs that are on the front are 225s but not had the rears tested, being stupid german 60mm ID springs, they don't have the rate marked on them in lb's and the NM - lbs conversion code using the FK markings doesn't work out. It equates to 342 lbs, when they have been tested at 225...
  3. I've just ordered another set for the front, the ones on there lasted about 3k, including two full track days. I ran AO48s before - they seem to wear a bit better than the R888s, but cost much more! Rears will last a good while yet. Quite a few of my mates use them on their track day Golfs.
  4. Sorry if it's been covered before. I'm looking for opinions / experiences on what suspension any VR owners use on their C's for trackday use. I'm looking to upgrade the stuff on my mk2 VR as it's not been changed since ripping out the 4 pot motor. Currently running the FK konigsport coil overs with H+R 25/28 ARBs, with wide track, poly bushed etc.
  5. Great review, I run them on my mk2, road and track, wet or dry!
  6. I've got a 6lb ali flywheel on my VR, mine was from Unorthodox racing in the US http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/ Code: 061410200 Price: $478.19 I bought mine from a mate (ChrisP) as he changed plans (again) with his car...
  7. It does work well, the bits Paul mentions are on my mk2 VR... It's an old thread.. "Posted: 13.11.2004, 21:17"
  8. Spooky..I think I've used the actual Skoda 02J shift tower Paul mentions in the original post in my mk2 VR! Coupled with the shift lever/cables mounted above the tunnel 'track slag stylee' from a mk4 R32 he was breaking at one point. Gear change is as good as you'll get from an O2A

Yep thats how mine is Kev.

Sometimes the idle is a bit lumpy, but it does come up with an idle adaption code sometimes when codes have been read - I just put it down to the cams and flywheel - ignorance is bliss! I've got a short video on my photobucket account of it running, http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/ ... one092.flv Car hadn't been driven with the VR at this point, only started up stopped, so guess plugs were a bit fouled (misfire)

I picked up a complete mk3 16v box ( has 3.68 fd ) for £50 and had it rebuilt into a VR casing with a Peloquin ATB for my mk2 VR. Still does 60 in 2nd, I have an Unorthodox racing 6lb alloy flywheel too, it revs like a bike   Oh and Dougherty 268s, highly recommended and cheap as chips. 8)

What size wheels did you calculate those with Kev? Not 15s at a guess
  13. I kept mine on my mk2 VR - Used a longer bolt that a mate had made for us. We used the same sandwich plate and hoses from my 16v kit and just fitted the pipes with he angled ends near the plate instead of into the cooler
  14. Sounds good Kev, I went out in Stephens mk2 VRT and it was mental with the T-70  I do think you'll need to refit the 3.3 FD , Tommy was saying his was just wheelspin-tastic with the 3.6.. 15. Mine sounded like that - it was blowing. The two bolts that secure the flexi joint are too long and they stop the 3 bolt cat ( de-cat?) flange sitting flush , I ground down the protuding ends of the bolts and it now fits properly without blowing. 8)
  16. Have a look on the 12v VR6 forum on Vortex, I think someone's organsing a DR cams group buy, so they must have a contact e mail or something.
  17. Only thing I can suggest is that maybe the rev limiter was reached during the test @ Stealth ? Reason I say this is that when Jon ran my car there the other Saturday, the first two runs produced 218bhp and 215bhp, however, it showed trans loss at 55bhp. As the power had not dropped off at the limiter, Jon still had his foot in :) So, the computer starts calculating the power loss whilst car was still 'accelerating' not on the coastdown, giving false power readings. Vince then suggested running it just over 6k so not to hit the limiter, which showed 209bhp @ 6150 and 35-37ish trans loss as per usual. Mine was 171 atw. As you've had a remap, I guess your limiter has been raised,so maybe not relevant in your case?
  18. ABV is the engine code for a 2.9 VR6 engine OBD = on board diagnostics 0BD1 - earlier pre 95-96ish VR6 , runs an idle speed valve as an easy thing to identify under the bonnet.. OBD II later 2.8 VR6 easily identified by no ISV and a stepper motor throttle body. OBD II has a faster more efficient ECU and even though it's rated the same power from VAG the OBD II cars tend to give more power, sometimes more than a 2.9. I'm sure there's loads of other bits of info on this too :-P
  19. Odd shaped torque graph - or is mine odd shaped?
  20. Think so, it's got a Jetex 2.5" system same as mine with no centre silencer and either a BMC CDA or Ram air 'cossie' style filter. Standard cams as far as I'm aware.
  21. Yeh, got a text off him when I was on holiday 196 bhp : 215 lb/ft wasn't it?
  22. Went to Stealth a couple of Saturdays ago with my mk2 VR6 Spec is 160,000 mile 0BDII 2.8 with new chains/guides/tensioners, Dougherty 268 cams, 6 branch eBay manifold and Carbonio CIA,Jetex 2.5" system. Very pleased with results considering vag-com logged faults with lambda probe and MAF... 209bhp at 6150 and 188 lb/ft @ 5243rpm! 171bhp at the wheels Plot overlaid with the last engine ( two week wonder 2035cc 16v on Newman 272s....) http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/GVK34/vr6vs16vpower.jpg Comical torque difference..... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/GVK34/vr6vs16vtorque.jpg Vid of first run, note -wheel spin , first time Vince has had to spray glue on the rollers for my car..lol! http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i270/ ... ower01.flv
