Looked around the car this morning to find this; So annoyed, can only have happened last night when the car was parked on the roadside outside my girlfriends...no note or anything just a dented arch on otherwise immaculate body work, SO ANNOYED!!!! You can see the blue paint on the wing from whoever bumped into it! Is this a replacement wing job or something a body shop would be able to have looking like new again?

Are these kits any good?
-
Would buying a rightclick keyless entry kit solve my remote central locking problems? With these kits id assume you'd have to ditch the scorpian alarm system as its part of the fob? Im not good on electics/alarms so please excuse my ignorance!

From what i can remember the red crankcase vent plumbs into the airbox? (maybe wrong and no longer have my valver so cant go and check!) You can get great results from K-jet if its setup correctly, i saw a 30bhp gain from having my fuel pressure and timing adjusted.
-
Agreed. I fitted a solid front, 1.3 g box mount and new rear mount. You shouldn't have too much trouble as long as nothing snaps etc!
-
Give this a read; http://clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.p ... conversion I stuck with k-jet on my 9a as i got good numbers. Think its luck of the draw with mechanical injection though and digi can be fine tuned and easily uprated to megasquirt

Whats the engine? There the front mount, gearbox mount and rear engine mount. Does the engine have a lot of play if you physically rock it back and foward or while revving it? If you drove it much after the front mount had given up your rear mounts would wear quicker as there would be more relative movement of the engine in the bay. Mounts aren't that much of a difficult job (my experience of 8v and 16V) so might be worth doing them all and being safe.

Do a compression test. Doesn't look good from the pictures, i looked at a vr which had been standing for 4 months and there was a little mayo under the filler cap, not that much though. Compression test should give you a good idea whether your gasket has gone.

Yup tried with the slider up and own, fob lights up but absolutely no reaction from the car...

I've spent the last hour trying to find my car.....

Yeah central locking works with the key, just no reaction from the fob..

Anyone got any ideas? Where would the best sort of place be to go to get it looked at/fixed? VW?
-
Any updates on where's cheapest at the momnent? Just got my overdraft extended! yay!

If you dont mind me asking how much did the wheel refurb set you back? Got any close up pics?
-
Thanks for the link, just tried this and no luck :( would the siren/alarm being turned off effect the remote central locking?
-
Does it matter that my fob isn't the same as the one pictured? I have the MPT 1340 W.T. Licence exempt model that alot of people have on the rado's?
-
Hi everyone. My vr has the original scorpian alarm system (as far as im aware) and im trying to get it up and running again. The previous owner 'turned off' the alarm as it kept going off. Looking under the bonnet there's a siren and a key hole which corresponds with a mini key on my vw keyring. The remote central locking didn't work either when i picked up the car. Having stripped the down and cleaned the fob and checked the battery the led now comes on when either of the buttons are pressed but this has no effect on the central locking still. Would anyone be able to give me a bit of help with fault finding? Are the central locking and alarm connected in the sense that if the alarm is off, so is the central locking?

Little update; i fitted the new leads today and the idle is much smoother and the engine seems to pull a little better. Couldnt change 2 of the plugs as my plug tool wasnt deep enough and fouled the cover. New leads all had a resistance of 5.01-5.03K ohms in case anyone's wondering what a healthy reading is.

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/shopping_cart ... 9217fb515e Works out at £68 posted on vwspares, ordered the set from Frenco my motorfactor for £65 and they'll be here by 10:30 tomorrow but thanks anyway.
-
Just got a call back and they couldn't get the original leads that they quoted on but they could get a lucas set @ £65.12, called vw and they quoted me some figure around 160... At this price is it worth just getting a performance set?
-
Local motor factor has quoted me £57 inc VAT for a new set. Looking on ebay there seems to be a number of different sets for the vr, im guessing the coil pack and dizzy engines need different sets?

Hi guys, after picking up my vr i noticed a very slight misfire occasionally and thought id change the plugs and check resistance across the leads. Plugs seemed in decent condition as i cant see evidence of a change since 2006, leads were a slightly different story; cylinder 6 -7.25K cylinder 4 - 0, Wrong plug lead used and the lead removal tool wouldn't get round it so i pulled it in anger and 'SNAP', one dead lead cylinder 2 -5.85K cylinder 1 -6.04K cylinder 3 - 0 - 5.06K, was really difficult to get a reading at all due to corrosion of the terminal at plug end. cylinder 5 -6.42 (lead connections were shiney and looked brand new so took this to be a 'good' level of resistance) The correct resistance should be between 5-7k i've read on here but obviously i think there's a problem with lead 3 despite the resistance being within tolerance. I've swapped all the plugs bar cylinders 3 and 5 as my plug tool wouldn't reach deep enough to remove the old plugs. Would a complete set of new leads be required or can i just replace the 2 (one dead one corroded) leads and if so where's the best place to get them?

Yup it's the vr from eBay. The guy was selling this one and a storm. I also viewed another vr from the forum neither of them even came close to the black one, I literally can't fault the cars bodywork or interior and it really pulls as well. As for the 9a valver I completely rebuilt the engine with new bearing, caps, shells etc etc, lightened flywheel, kr exhaust cams, raised rev limiter, oil cooler, s/s manifold and full system and a stealth tune up. The first rub at stealth produced 140bhp and after adjusting fuelling and spark jumped up to 170bhp and 127 lb/ft. Was great fun to drive but needed revving to 7.5k to really get going!
