  1. Quick update and some more pics. Have bought a set of AP coilovers off here and also everything needed for a service along with 6 litres of Millers CFS 10w-50 Competition Full Synthetic Engine Oil. Fitted new windscreen wipers as the last set were wanktastic... Gave it a good clean today with Autoglym 3 step condition, polish and seal. Here are some pics of it cleaned, coilovers should arrive tomorrow so will get more up then. Next up is getting hold of a set of hubs and fitting reconditioned 288 brakes and new discs, pads and wheel bearings etc so i can then just swap the entire hub assembly over. Cant afford to have the car off the road for any period of time. I've also been eyeing up some 262/263/268 cams but am undecided as to which set to go for..thinking the 262 or 3's having done a bit of digging on here.
  2. Did you replace it with a new pump? if so where from? traced my hot start problem back to the fuel pump, doesn't prime sometimes think it needs replacing..
  3. I've just been outside and had another go. No matter what scan or check i try and perform, i press start, i hear one click then a double click noise come from inside the dash, then the software stops working on the last click and shuts down :mad2:
  4. The software is vag com 409.1, i might give it a go on my sisters laptop with windows 7
  5. Im having trouble getting my vagcom to work. I think i understand the setup and can sucessful test a com for whichever usb port im using but im having trouble actually using vagcom. Everytime i try a scan the software crashes and closes? Am i write in thinking the software needs to be installed everytime i use it? does it have to be manually uninstalled after each use? im using it with vista and a kit i bought off ebay with thee obd2 style plug.
  6. ROFL at bristolbaron, i ve called the pub and warned them there might be some sort of car stealing gang operating from the car park and they said this has happened before in the past... Gonna go back to the car park tonight in a different car and see if the guys car is there again and maybe follow him home and leave a nice fat turd on his bonnet for him to discover in the morning..a phantom pooing should sort him out
  7. Long story...went for dinner earlier with my girlfriend to a pub a few miles up the road (in a very rural part of Kent) anyway for whatever reasons I noticed a guy walk past us when we were having a ciggy outside afterwards and get in a silver estate. Five minutes later I left the pub and walked past the guy who was sitting in the car looking down into his lap and doing something with his phone. I got in my car and started to drive the 2.5 miles back to my house. After a few hundred metres I noticed a car following me some way back. I turned off the lane onto my road and noticed the headlights far behind me. When we got to the straight in my lane I suddenly noticed the lights from the car behind me go out. I pulled into my drive which isn't visible from the road got out of the car and waited for a few seconds. Sure enough the same car from the pub slowly drove past with it's lights off, noticed me then sped off, still with his lights off. As it's 10:30 at night it's by no means light and with no street lighting for miles I found this very weird. After going inside I looked outside and saw someone dressed in black walking outside the house, I told the old man and me and him went outside to see the guy had walked past my house, turned round and was now walking in the other direction with no torch/dog etc. Due to the rural location, no nearby pubs or any reason to walk down the road at this time I got suspious. After camping outside in the bushes fir an hour with an array of kitchen appliances and a .22 rifle I called the police to do a sweep of the road. Had a long chat with them and gave them all the necessary descriptions they guessed the pair may have spotted the car at the pub, waited for me to leave then followed me home..... Anyone on here had similar experiences?!? Understandably my girlfriend is now shitting it and is unlikely to sleep tonight :mad2:
  8. WOW! :salute: looking stunning!!
  9. Oh great thread, my sunroof feels like its struggling but that seems insane for a tube of grease! How about the stuff you get for tail lifts on the back of vans/trucks??
  10. where abouts is the car located, im also near by (cranbrook) if you want a good working vr to compare it against. BTW if the heater matrix replacement is anything like the mk2 is a pig of a job....
  11. Are there any deals/discounts on oil at the moments? Having read the thread im looking at getting 6 litres of Silkolene pro s 10w50
  12. Thanks for the replies, going to go ahead with the diy service and keep all the receipts and try and get the book stamped with a mileage and a date just for a quick reference and note of when the next one should be carried out. :salute:
  13. Is there a way or testing the earths? what sort of resistance should i see along through it? I had a quick look at the earths and noticed the earth that runs from the neg terminal, then bolts to the chassis next to the battery tray and runs on to the gearbox, had some corrosion at the battery end. Couldnt get access to the gearbox end though....
  14. Are some eprom programmers better than others? there seem to be a few on ebay ranging in price; http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... Categories Going to accumulate the parts over the next month then have a go as i've got the basic engine mapping know how from uni and this looks like fun!
  15. Just wondering, im about to carry out a full service on the vr (all fluids, filters, etc etc done the plugs and the leads) so basically spending a fair bit and doing everything a garage would do during a service but im now going to end up with a gap in the service history. I want to keep a record of the service and what was done, should this go in the service book or is that 'not done' as i understand a service stamp carries a certain degree of job standard and so on. I do all work and servicing on my own cars but with the corrado im worried about this effecting the value of the car, what do people usually do in this situation?
  16. Posted elsewhere and did a lot of searching about hot start problems which seem common. Having replaced leads and plugs id decided to check the fuel pump was priming whenever the car wouldn't hot start. When really hot the car would turn over and over so id open the door and listen for the fuel pump priming (which it always did) and then it would start.... After this happening a few times (car not starting then me opening the door and sticking my head under the car to listen for the pump and it starting) i've come to the conclusion the car will only hot start when the door is open. This seems very odd to me but possible if the doors opening is causing a voltage change somewhere and this is affecting the car starting when hot? Is this pure coincidence (tried and tested over 5 times now) or is it likely to be an electrical problem and if so what?
  17. Thanks, im trying to narrow down the problem as much as possible. The last week the car hasnt been doing it but the weekend before last when we had the really hot weather the car just wasnt starting when hot. Could external temps in some way be linked to the problem? possibly higher water temps causing the trouble? Oil temps seem about the same this week as they were the other week when the car wouldnt start from hot...very confusing. I checked relay 62 and it seemed almost brand new gave it a clean, checked the earth and gave that a clean but i couldnt get access to the gearbox connection. Will have to see if i get the problem again when the weather warms up...
  18. original dark blue storm parked outside a church or village hall today (Sunday) in bodium and saw another blue (i think) rado with aftermarket lights driving between Bidbenden and Tenterden this morning.
  19. Hey everyone since buying the car i've had two problems; 1. I have no reaction from my keyfob (original VAG scorpian), led bleeps on fob on both buttons, central locking for the whole car works with the key via either door lock but no reaction from fob. 2. I have poor radio reception and often have trouble finding radio stations. Can anyone help me out?
  20. Bump, wrong section? Should i post in interior section?
  21. Sorry to revive this but i ve been getting similar probs from my obd2 vr6. Car starts on the button from cold (despite having an intermitent missfire) but when its hot (having reached operating temps) and then left for 5-10mins it wont start just turn over and over. Turns over really well but just shows no intention of firing up. If i leave it for 5-10 mins it takes some turning over but then starts. Once cool it will start on the button again. It seems the starting problem is proportional to the oil temp, the higher the temp the longer it takes to start. Im guessing once its up to temp and not starting i; 1.Check for spark by removing plug leads and wathing for an arc against body work. 2. Listen for fuel pump priming and check fuel pressure some how/where? Its starting to get embarassing when you get petrol during rush hour and you end up sitting at the pump for ten minutes waiting for the engine to cool :camp:
  22. Just to add this isnt a new problem the remote central locking has never worked in the few months i've had the car.
  23. Two problems; 1. I have no reaction from my keyfob (original VAG scorpian), led bleeps on fob on both buttons, central locking for the whole car works with the key via either door. 2. I have poor radio reception and often have trouble finding radio stations.. Can anyone help me out?
  24. I do alot of part time building and general outdoor mucky work and cant afford to run two cars. i have cloth recaros which pick up the dirt easily. Obviously you wouldnt have them covered the whole time i was only planning on covering my driver seat during the week. The 60.00 quid covers are made for the vw recaros so cant see why they wouldnt fit properly or cause more damage? Perhaps you have time to endlessly clean your seats or perhaps your able to stay clean at all times but im can do neither hence the original question. Going to try find somewhere with a carpet cleaner then get them properly clean before sourcing a cover.
