What ET are your 9s? I defo want to go deep dish, I cant decide over 8 or 9 though. The other thing that bothers me is the limited choice of tyres if you wanna run 205*40. The sidewalls of a 215*40 tyre is a litle too high IMO, 215*35 would be nice, but that would tramline more than 205*40....decisions, decisions!
-
Zak, I have another question! *suprise* How close are your wheels to the rear axle? I am running 8*17 ET35 and can only just get my fingers between the wheel and rear axle, yours must be REALLY close running 8.5" !?
-
Good work dood, I was thinking of going the other way and completely smoothing the rear bumper with a custom exhaust. BTW, if you need to be towed, you wont need the rear tow bar, but the front! :)
-
Thanks 'Ian the anti-corrosion brake disc specialist' j/k! hehehe
-
btw, thanks for the answers to the arch questions Zak
-
EBC discs appear to have corrosion protection, not sure what they are like though. Would prefer plain brembo, but their website doesn't appear to list them. As for the hoses, Awesome GTi have them for £50, maybe this is just the 4 line kit, much better price! http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.ph ... 02&xSec=85
-
Can the other hoses be used (its a 6 line kit I believe) also? I dont want to pay £100 for effectively 2 front hoses...I take it you cant buy them seperately?
-
Incidently, are the brembo discs zinc plated? I hate my discs in that only the disc surface is nice and clean, the vents etc are all rusted up - the rears are even worse and looks awful :(
-
Hmm, so is there a seal between the liner and arch then? Apologies for the questions, I am feeling rather nervous about cutting mine away - they are there for a reason, and the last thing I want is rust to develop once water gets in there...
-
Zak, I assume you have had your front arches rolled if you are runnning 554mm to the centre of the arch? If so what have you done to the plastic inner arch liner to allow clearance? Mines at 580mm (with 205*40) and its damn close as it is!
-
Hi Phil, it seemed more appropriate to reply to your post in your thread, not mine. What profile tyres are you planning on getting? Isn't 205*40 about right for 9's"? I've done a few searches online and it seems you are fairly limited with choice for 205*40's though. I know Dunlop and Yokohama do 215/35, and that works out an even lower profile than 205*40, so will make the ride a little more harsh....

Matt, you have a damn good memory, you are spot on, I must of been visiting my brother who lives in Warwick Road, which is just round the corner!
-
Yeah, am gonna do just that, once this crappy weather clears out! (where I live anyway)
-
Couple of pics of my motor with the new shocks fitted. Had a little play with the ride height on Sunday, wound the rears up another 3 turns, I've now got some clearance and an (almost) even gap between tyre and arch, which I think provides the best look. Its now about 590mm to the top of the arch, with the front remaining at 580mm. Overall I am very happy indeed. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC_0112.JPG[/attachment:1vt0wwgg] DSC_0113.JPG[/attachment:1vt0wwgg]

Cheers dood, must admit to being an admirer of your car also. Are they 9" wide your rims? If so whats the ride like? I want to go down that route, but am undecided as yet, I think :?
-
Is this something you had done to the hubs and discs, or can you actually buy these?
-
Yeah I know who you are, and Chris of course (why did he get rid of that lush A4 avant!), you work in the same building dont you, and if my memory serves me, your name is Ben too!? 9 years too, good work fella, is yours a valver or a G60? I can recall seeing it parked up well away from the other cars! Mines only kept nice because it lives in the garage :) My cuz does car valeting on the side, he could get ur paint gleaming again no worries, drop me a pm if you are interested.
-
Ha, are you biased per chance? Hehehe I plan on getting some 16's for it once I get rid of the crappy speedtech zorst - I've had those RH's on there for 6-7 years now, time for a change I think.
-
good price that, they are well worth it arent they?? Looks ace slammed mate, bit toooooo low on the back though  good work mate :notworthy: Hehehe, cheers! Yeah the cars is sooo much better lower, asethically anyhow. I think it must be at least 4 cm lower than the previous setup. I've raised the rear again by 10mm, so now about 59cm to the top of the arch, tbh its still a little too low, although I am sure some would say its better 'in the weeds'

vwspares.co.uk - all VAG or VAG approved (Febi Bilstein etc.) stuff. Replaced all the front ball joints etc, steering feels sooo much more positive and precise now, very worthwhile.

£80 delivered, all genuine VAG parts too. Got them from vagparts.com.

Picked my car up yesterday evening from the garage, so I took a couple of shots this morning. The front is about right I think, but the rear is way too low!! I set the rears up with about 60mm of thread below the spring collar, but I think it needed to be about 70-80 as I can only just get my finger between arch and tyre! Its sitting just below 58cm from centre of arch to the ground on both front and rear, with 205*40*17's on . Definately alot stiffer than my old shocks though, no exhaust banging which is nice (although I am replacing this next). I just need to get used to the ride stiffness now, at the moment I am very happy with the car being lower, but think the car is a little too stiff for my liking (or what I am used to). Apologies for the crap phone pictures.... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00102.JPG[/attachment:lercmha5] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC00101.JPG[/attachment:lercmha5] DSC00104.JPG[/attachment:lercmha5] Once I get the stance sorted I am gonna give it a good wash then take some proper photo's :)

Dropped car off at the garage this morning to have all the suspension bits and shocks fitted. Cant wait to pick it up tonite, I just hope it all goes on ok.
-
I bought mine from here a couple of weeks ago. All genuine VAG parts and fit a treat. Highly recommended.
