Yesterday I finally got time to start the housing/hub/brake rebuild I've been planning for months. Removing the housing assembly was actually relatively straight forward as all the nuts/bolts had been replaced earlier in the year when I had the wishbones and shocks replaced. Here's what it started out like... stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSCN1672.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7] Most of the parts removed ETKA Corrado.pdfDSCN1677.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7] Old versus new (the bearing in the old hub had a massive amount of play in it so I was rather happy that new ones were going on) stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSCN1678.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7] New housing/hub on Corrado92.pdfDSCN1679.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7] All fitted and bled using an Eezibleed - great bit of kit and VERY easy to do. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSCN1682.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSCN1684.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7] Finished!! Might happy with the results, am also glad I painted the wires black just to keep it all neat. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSCN1686.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7]DSCN1687.JPG[/attachment:ux8m0jd7]

Well, the windscreen's been fitted, all looks good. Had the car MOT'd and serviced yesterday, passed with flying colours! The only 'Attention' marks on the print out were 4mm of tread on the front tyres, so I am might happy with that! To celebrate I took it out for a damn good thrashing with the tunes up loud :D My Passat handles are at the paint shop, hopefully pick them up next week and get them fitted at the weekend.

Operation weight save - lets all have a crack at it!
jamin replied to bananawhip's topic in Engine Bay
I always thought that rotating weight is a big enemy - I am looking to get some one-piece 16's to replace my heavy RH 2-piece 17's, plus there is the reduced rolling radius which will improve acceleration. -
I am having my done via the insurance with Nationwide Glass (I think). I have spoken to the fitter a few times now, seems a reasonable chap and his son apparently has a couple of project cars on the go so sounds like he has an interest in looking after cars and hopefully that bodes well for me. Unfortunately I am at work whilst he is doing the work, but the wife will be keeping a watchful eye. All being done on my drive so I can just back it up into the garage and let the sealant cure when done!

No probs, I am a complete novice for these sort of things, in fact most things :D Yeah, peace of mind that it shouldn't come back...
-
Yeah, I guess I was lucky really, but I was still fuming when I found out...

Yeah, he also managed to glue the pillar trim on the inside to the screen, I had to cut them off with a knife and get new ones (luckily at a show from a chap for only about a fiver!). And he broke all the white 'catches' that the trim underneath the wipers use. I didn't find this out until I fitted the lupo wipers and took them off to clean up. Did I mention it was Autoglass :pukeright: At least the chap fitting the new one had the decency to tell me, rather than just slapping the new one over the top (its not Autoglass)!

Mainly surface, but there was a small hole, but a small amount of filler sorted that. No signs from the outside at all. Ha, having never done anything like this before, I wanted to make sure I did it right, with the right equipment etc. Basically what Kev said, used a flat bladed screwdriver to remove the worst of it, then corse sandpaper to get to the bare metal. Then treated with some rust hardener to stop the affected areas, then a little filler on the hole, more rubbing down then primed. The chap that is fitting the windscreen is going to apply the final coat before the new screen goes in. I'm always surprised by comments like this! You've owned your Corrado for 8 years - probably longer than a lot of the folks on this forum! The advice should be coming from you!! :) Wrong! Its nearer 10 years! :D

Thankfully I have a couple of friends who popped over and sorted this for me (suprised by the lack of advice on here tbh), did a real nice job, and it wont be rusting again when the new one goes on, which gives me a little more peace of mind. IMG_0021.jpg[/attachment:8x8emm04]

Looks the nuts! But then I expect nothing less from Zak! Good work!

Had my car booked to have a new windscreen today, but (unsurprisingly) the monkey that fitted the previous one made such a mess that I've now got loads of rust and can't get a new one fitted until its sorted. To makes matters worse - MOT and Service is booked for next Friday! Advice most welcome!!!! This is just a sample... IMG_0015.jpg[/attachment:2xjzhfh1]

well yeah they do, you can mask over them and leave them, or be hardcore and spray them :norty: Hehee, I guess I could do that, but fit a buzzer just in case! LOFL!

How about the reverse lights, surely these will glow red now?
-
Ok thanks for the info :)

Got a link or more detail for these green LED 'bulbs'? do they fit where the standard bulbs go?
-
Mocked up the housings today with the new discs and pads that arrived this week, it all fits together! Mmmmmm!

Alot, almost as much as the entire exhaust system ~£300, still cheaper than the vw one though. How long is the CAT, is it longer then a standard CAT - looks it.[/quote:1lttzcmq] A little, but there is enough 'spare' pipe to trim down if need be.

Yeah, I am so far, especially as I (with some help from a friend) fitted it - adds to the satisfaction. Not yet, my initial drive only proved that I needed to use sealant at the joints - it was blowing quite bad and once warm the center silencer was (only just) touching the rear axle, so had to move it forwards a little. Also I've got to wait 24hr for the sealant to cure - I am picking it up later today, so will let you know how I get on.
-
Cheers Zak, yeah, although I think 2 would suffice tbh, and its a Jetex full stainless - you can get a kit with just 2 silencers.

Tailpipe all mounted - no issues here at all, which was nice! 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSCN1534.JPG[/attachment:1ifdrhe4] And finally.... DSCN1535.JPG[/attachment:1ifdrhe4] Overall I am very happy with it, Its actually rather quiet which is good as I prefer to hear the induction growl rather than the exhaust. I am also glad that myself and a friend managed to fit it, although it took a few dry runs and a few evenings.

Well, I have finally found the time and a suitable garage to fit my nice new shiny exhaust and sports CAT. The old CAT's heatshield has been broken for some time now, and catches so much since I've had it lowered I decided to get a new one as I am going to change the exhaust anyway. I was tempted to take it to a garage, but my friend has access to a double garage with a pit so decided to do-it-myself, which I wanted to anyway. He is a pic of the old tailpipe - speedtech DTM upswept, about 7 years old I think. I liked it at the time, but have grown tired of its looks and fancied a change to something more OEM. Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdfDSCN1492.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Rolled the car back over the pit to make a start pulling the old one off - this took over three hours and I had to hacksaw one of the bolts on the rear hanger off as it had seized up, great. Book1.pdfDSCN1502.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Here's a pic of the tailpipe - the exhaust clamp has completely rusted away! stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSCN1498.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Same problem as the centre silencer - which was also slightly blowing. ETKA Corrado.pdfDSCN1499.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] The CAT took a while to remove aswell, the bolts were on TIGHT, and the one at the top was even harder - try getting a sensible sized spanner up there! Also, the damn lambda probe wouldn't budge at all. In the end my mate managed to locate the connector at the back of the engine whilst I directed him from underneath the car. Once off the car I could then get enough leverage on it to undo it! stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSCN1501.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Finally all removed, ready for the new bits! Corrado92.pdfDSCN1504.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Old CAT and front silencer vs new one! Some cutting of the front silencer was required as it was about 2" too long, but no biggy. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSCN1503.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] New CAT bolted to the downpipe with the lamda probe attached. climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSCN1505.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] CAT and front silencer fitted and sealed, looking the bees knees! 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSCN1529.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Front and centre silencer fitted, had to use some M8 studding inside the T-bar and a nut each end to ensure the rubbers dont come off - the alignment of the CAT meant the front silencer wasn't quite straight. DSCN1530.JPG[/attachment:h32hgyq2] Continued in next post - run out of attachments!

Hi all, I am in the process of fitting my new exhaust, but I am a clamp short so need to buy another. I noticed when I removed my old exhaust ALL of the old clamps (standard U clamps) had rusted to the point of being useless. I was wondering if these stainless steel will do the job, it says 'universal' but listed for bikes. Does anyone have any advice? http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productinfo/EXC5963/Exhausts/Exhaust-Brackets-and-Clamps/On-Two-Wheels/430-Grade-S-S-Exhaust-Clamp
