  1. Forte stuff is good.
  2. My problem in the end was a little air lock which seemed to be by the sensor. Topped up the system from the top rad hose and it was fine.

    High-pitched whine

It wasn't that loud (the noise did not change over the 4 years and it worked perfectly!) It wasn’t storm grey, but I have heard on the grapevine of a conspiracy to bring down the owners of grey cars... :)

    High-pitched whine

Does it actually need changing? Is it that loud. Mine was always noisy, but it was still fine when I came to sell it after after 4 years.

    Baby seat question

Don't know if it helps, but I know a maxi cosi tobi fits in the back as 1 has been fitted in the back of mine. Go to Mothercare (or another similar place that stocks it) and say you are thinking of buying one, but need to know if it fits and get them to let you test fit it. If it works, then say something about having to speak to the Mrs before purchasing. Job done.
  6. I was only doing a gentle 10 miles an hour when mine went - it's not necessarily how it's being driven at the time.
  7. They can snap - though very unusual. I had the end of my drivers' side (long) shaft shear off last year - had a bit of intermitant vibration and checked the CV joints - they were OK. After 3 weeks or so, doing 10 miles an hour it gave way. Swapped the shaft - OK since. I guess there was some fatigue in the metal after 15 years of use.
  8. 263 cams & a remap will help the VR a lot. Made mine produce a lot more torque, it starts lower down and the flatspots of the std mapping have gone. Makes it a lot more urgent.
  9. My golf Mk5 estate with TDI 140 gives 158bhp, 320nm and 53 mpg average to a tank (best 58) and it may get chipped soon or sold for a Scirocco. Its not exciting, but it is efficient and only £125 to tax.
  10. All change! I have a knee cartilage problem and it as a result my right knee swells up and can be very painful. I have had it operated on before and don't know if they will again in the near future, but they tell me I am too young for a knee replacement, so I guess I will have that to look forward to in the future... Anyway, as I have not been able to get comfortable in the golf (I'm v. tall) it has made my knee really bad (the hospital took 300mm of fluid out of it yesterday) so I'm going to get rid of the golf and start driving the Corrado again. When I started it the other day getting it ready for the MOT and listened to it I realised how much I missed the thing and even the smell of it. The MOT was failed on a couple of minor things, so I hope to be back in it in a week or 2. Anyone got any suggestions for cars that are good for people with long legs? I need seats that go back a long way and seats that have a long squab (the bit you sit on). I have tested most of the current VW range and most seem to have short squabs. The most comfortable that also had the best squabs was the Scirocco, though I have not tried sitting in a Touareg. I believe the A6 is very good and the Audi sports seats are extendable which helps.
  11. I keep seeing a Blackberry M plate parked in Carmel near Llandeilo
  12. How much will the GTI be? It's basically the same as a Ibiza Cupra which I think is near 16.5K, but probably 2k more as most of the polo models are (model for model) which seems quite a lot. We were looking at the top tdi (1.6 90bhp only offered in SEL spec) which is just over 15K basic, and got the Ibiza mid range sport tdi (the same 1.6, but with 105bhp) which is just over 13K as I could not see where the extra money was going with the Polo as it had little extra spec and looking at the residual values the Ibiza doesn't loose out their either. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Polo a lot, but financially it doesn't stack up for me with VAG making the identical Ibiza available for a lot less. Are they not even made in the same factory?
  13. No, my initial desision was to break and then after this thread was to sell. I am going to take it for an MOT sometime next week and go from there. So as long as it goes OK, then I will tidy it up and hopefully get it up for sale later on in May. I'll update the signature to pending! Oh, that reminds me, on a previous entry/PM Portent enquired about my car, which I saw and forgot to reply to. I'm very sorry, I was not ignoring you, it just slipped my mind as I've had a lot on recently. (I hate having no time for car stuff). In summery, All new timing stuff, head fully rebuilt, new clutch kit, gearbox fluid replaced, new oil pump, new coil pack, grey heated leather. Hope you found the right car for you.
  14. Looked at the new polo for the wife. We liked it, but we bought an Ibiza SC sport CR 105 tdi (catchy title) on 17's. In general we found the Ibiza was better spec for where we are in life and better engine choice
  15. I'll let you know that the 4000 rpm redline is a thing of the past on these new modern common-rail diesels! The redline does not start until 4500 rpm!! What am I doing? I'm starting to defend the things! I must write out"High octane petrol and turbo chargers rule, diesel is the fuel of satan" a thousend times. Though I have to admit the cheap tax, insurance and mega fuel economy is OK.
  16. I have spoken with Vince about a remap, but the big issue with the Golf isn't really the performance though, it's the way it handles. I like cars you can hustle along the country roads, but the Golf is a relaxed cruiser. My wife just scrapped an old million mile M plate GTI for an Ibiza 105 TDI sport on 17's which is reminds me of a 205 GTI handling wise and the new common-rail TDI is much smoother and more linier in delivery. It is a car that's great to hustle and likes the throttle blipping on downshifts etc (just got to wait for it to run in before we can give it the beans). Been quite a mad month - gone from 2 cars with a combined age of 31 to 2 cars with a combined age of 2! Didn't plan it, but it's certainly not bad. Things have progressed a lot over the last 15 years, I just need to pay for the things now!
  17. Thanks guys. :salute: You have restored the faith in me as I really don't want to break it. I have simply washed it and parked it up in my parent's garage since I took delivery of the new car. I will endever to get it cleaned up and MOT'ed (I think it ran out yesterday) and then get it up on here for sale (I just have to find the time). I've attached a picture of what it currently looks like. Corrado1.JPG[/attachment:10k3py4i] I miss driving it so much and somehow after owning 11 GTI's, 2 Corrados and 2 Audi's (inc a fantastic 2.2 GT coupe in red a bit like the ashes to ashes quattro turbo) I just cannot get to grips with running a diesel golf even though it's a wonderful new car with automatic everything and touch screen sat-nav. When I turned 17 the last of the mk2 GTI 16v's were leaving the showrooms and the Corrado VR6 had just come out, so I have spent my driving life living the dream and now I feel like I have sold out, but maybe its because I have never aspired to own a sensible diesel (I hope I'm not growing up!). Maybe it will turn into a Scirocco in a year or 2? (petrol of course).
  18. I have a 149k M plate Blackberry VR6 which I love to bits and have spent a small fortune on over the last year or two (over £2K alone in the last 10,000 miles) as I planned to keep using it as my daily driver. I have overhauled the engine, brakes, suspension, cooling system etc and had Stealth fit 263's and remap. The paintwork is not great (no rust, just crap paint work) but the mechanics and electrics are all good and it has the heated leather and air-con, so I would think a fairly desirable car. Then, my stepfather offered me his car for way under the market value, so I had to take it, (even though I don't overly like it) but I have to sell the VR. :( I thought I would get at least 3k for it, but having a look in the "For Sale" section has surprised me. I think going by what I saw that £2k would be a good price to get currently. Now I know that it is only worth what someone is willing to pay, but are these figures typical now? If so, it looks like I will have to break it as it's worth much more in parts and that is something I really don't want to do. If I could keep it I would, but as I have no long term storage facility and need the funds, I'm going to have to do something. Is this dilemma something that others have been experiencing too?
  19. Remember that stainless just stains less, it can still rust - quality is everything.
  20. To open the log file change the file extension from txt to csv and open it up in excel and then it makes sense. I think the 3 senders are OK. is there anyway of testing the temp sender? Check its resistence?
  21. I need a little guidance please. Recently my 94 VR6 temp gauge has been showing a very low temp (70 - 75 degrees) and I think it's been running a little rich as the end of the exhaust is rather black with carbon (especially after a motorway run), mpg is down a touch and it feels not quite so zesty (if you know what I mean). If I am stopped in traffic the temp gauge starts to rise, but then returns to the low 70s again when moving. I have tested the Thermostat - the bottom rad pipe stays cold until the engines quite warm and the thermostat opens (it has been replaced twice in recent years with VAG part) (In fact, apart from a couple of pipes, the whole cooling system is under 2 years old). When I switch on the ignition (before cranking over the engine) I can hear a gurgle from the cooling system so there must be a bit of air in it, but after a lot of trying I cannot get rid of it (answers on a postcard please - N.B. the aux water pump is about 2 years old (bosch) couldn't be on the way out already could it?). I have run VAGCOM on it to see what the water temp is according to the ECU temp sensor and it appears to be a happy 82 degrees on my 15 mile open road trip home in 1 degree outside temp. (Log file attached - .CSV changed to a .TXT file extension so it can be uploaded). Is this healthy? An O2 Active figure is between 0.8 and 1 - is this the lambda reading and is this as it should be? Could someone cast a knowledgeable eye over the log file and advise if anything looks amiss? The temp sensor from the thermostat housing is about a year old and black. I take it this has no bearing on the fuelling as that must be dictated by the ECU temp sensor? I have been scouring the forum, but out of answers, so if anyone can give me some good suggestions it will be much appreciated. (at least it's not running hot!) Thanks in advance, Mark
  22. I used to get this. It's caused by a build up of petrol fumes and a slight backfire when cranking the engine when cold (happens more in the winter). I virtually stopped it by rebuilding the head (new valve guides & seals & skim). Then I had new (263) cams and a stealth remap and it totally went. Maybe a remap (change of timing) would stop it for you as I think it's the spark igninting the vapour past the slightly open inlet valves back into the inlet manifold. I used new dampers and the foam helps to prevent the flash back into the damper (it gets blown out of it eventually). The last one I bought (hopefully the last ever - 2 years now) was from VW TPS in MK was about £20 if I remember correctly.
  23. Its just a few people having a bitch about things. These things always happen when theres a crowd. Just ignore it, come along on the day and enjoy yourself. For the past few years I have been on PH most days and sold cars on the site too, but joining this sunday service is the first thing I have posted on there, so that makes me a newbie.
