  1. Hi folks, difficult to describe this without a picture (will try and add picture!!) but the breather pipe on the VR6 left side (where the belts are)that comes out of the metal hood at the top left and goes next to the throttle body (not the breathers on bulkhead side but the ones you see from the front) has an inline valve with a two pin plug on the top. Only problem is, mine is plastic - just a dummy!! As I am getting a small amount of oil forcing itself out when the engine is cold and dripping on to the hot exhaust and smelling (hopefully that will help pinpoint it too!) I assume it is a valve that is supposed to be open when cold, it would be good to know what it is and should there be a real one there!! Cheers
  2. Hi folks - definitely a techie question, anyone know the operating current of the blower motor? I know the fuse is 20A but I am sure the motor on its own will not pull anywhere near that as the blower resistors would be huge to cope with that :-) Remarkably, it looks like the motors could pull over 10-20A after a rake about in the EOS forum of all things...got a painful problem of a defective heater control switch and am investigating alternatives... Short of measuring it I have drawn a blank trying to find the Watt rating of the motor...any educated bods out there?? :-)
  3. Thanks Matt, received with thanks!! Can drive around with headlights for the first time in 3 weeks!!!
  4. Hi Matt Transferred today (Wed)! Cheers Mike ---------- Post added at 6:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 6:42 PM ---------- Hi Matt Transferred today (Wed)! Cheers Mike
  5. Hi Matt, definitely need one of these!! Not sure if my PM thingie is working (seem to be disappearing without trace!!) but my email is [email protected] Cheers
  6. Hi folks, really struggling to find either of these! Headlamp switch is rectangular and has the round button with the light in the centre - think this is the late style. The heater control unit (long shot I know) switch for the fan speed does work at all, not the thermal fuse end but must be defective switch itself - still works on full but the switch itself has been knacked in the service history for years it seems! Anyone who has had to replace the headlamp switch cos you cannot find one, would be of interest too!! Cheers
  7. Hi mate, tried to PM but seems to have disappeared into cyberspace but it may appear!! Looking at the headlamp switch and the heater panel fan speed if you still have them? Try and PM me or send a pic to [email protected], Cheers ---------- Post added at 12:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 PM ---------- Hi mate, tried to PM but seems to have disappeared into cyberspace but it may appear!! 8. For anyone's info, it was the head gasket...seems you do not necessarily get plumes of white smoke or emulsion in the oil, and the reason it lost so much when cold was once the engine warms it clamps together more tightly. High temp was the exhaust gases super-heating the water... :-)
  9. Hi folks - major problem, seem to have a huge build up of pressure in the cooling system - water is bubbling out even though the engine temp is okay on the guage but is a bit higher at times than it used to be. However, it does sometimes rocket up especially first thing in the day within about 1/2hr, pushes the water out, i top it up...it seems to behave for most of the day, until the next day. Thermostat was replaced last year so unlikely to be getting stuck, but it seems to have been running hot for a while - explains the high oil usage over the last couple of months and baked plugs :-( Is this head gasket trouble - no semolina in the oil...? Its a 2L/9A.. Cheers
  10. I gave the two switches on the throttle body a clean and all the obvious grounds i could see on the block and the idle has smoothed out nicely but still have the problem it seems to splutter after it has been running for a few minutes, recovers, splutters again after another couple of minutes....any suggestions?? :-)
  11. Cheers guys, this gives me something to work with :-)
  12. Hi folks, having a problem where i am stalling randomly once the engine is warmed up and stopping at roundabouts, queueing in traffic etc. When i had the car in for something else a month back, the mechanic mentioned he had cleaned the microswitch on the throttle and see how it goes, it went okay but has re-occured so am wondering where the switch is and how do i get a new one :-) ! It is a 9A 2L/16 :-) Any general advice on how you remove the electrical connectors, i am Rado-ignorant having only recently re-entered from the Rocco world :-) Cheers
  13. Hi out there, are there any possible gotchas changing the fuel filter? Looks like a straightforward job but remembering what happened to my Rocco (RIP) when the fuel pipe disintegrated and i caused an emergency incident as petrol sprayed everywhere in the services (funny now but not at the time) :-) It is a 2L/16 with the fuel filter next to the rear pump :-) Cheers
  14. Cheers, thanks for that, will get the grips out.....just seem to remember reading somewhere that if the fluid seems to be getting low, the whole system needs to be checked, just topping up is not enough......hence the thought it might not be designed to come off :-)
  15. One of those really embarrasing problems.....how do you get the top off the power sterring fluid resevoir (the little red cap!) ??? Mine seems unbelievably tight, waiting to break if i force it open. It is a 2L/9A engine...any hints etc would be appreciated!!
  16. Thanks mate, It is the 2L/16V - had a read of some of the other posts about it and there seems to be a dizzying array of conflicting instructions....the number/location of bolts you have to loosen seems to vary between the posts (understandably if there are variations in the design!), i like the idea of just two!!!
  17. Hi folks, reading instructions about how to adjust the power steering belt and have no problem finding the adjuster bolt but apparently it is VERY IMPORTANT (according to the notes) to loosen the lock-nut first on the bracket before trying to adjust it.....unfortunately, the diagram does not show where the locknut is (I suppose it thinks you are a numpty if you cannot see it!). Any instructions out there? A second set of instructions seems to suggest having to loosen the pump itself before adjusting the adjuster bolt, which makes me uneasy, as again, no idea which of the bolts on the diagram the isntructions are referring to (they are just labelled bolts 7-18).....again, any help would be appreciated!! Cheers :-)
  18. Is the passenger headlamp still available? :-)
  19. Hi, anyone out there know where you can get headlamp units (or have you one to sell :-) )? Do not seem to have them on GSF or Ecp...
  20. Cheers Jim et al, i have noticed a slight retard on heavy acceleration and as i have the GSF plug set i assume i am 'shafted' (no pun intended). Was a pain going to VW last week looking for other Rado parts 'dropped out without a replacement', might as well as had a robot sitting there... Will see if i fair any better just trying for a single lead :-) Where did you get your lead from Jim? Cheers
  21. Cannot seem to get either end of a plug lead out, thy both look moulded in!!! Any ideas anyone?? Incidentally, the car seems to run absolutely fine without it on, which makes me doubt is it a cam position sensor which i would imagine would have quite a noticeable effect?
