  1. Hi, as part of my amateur servicing i ordered a new set of plug leads and was happily fitting them when i noticed that one of the existing plugleads has what looks like a big polo (as in sweet... :-) ) attached to the lead which is obviously a sensor of some kind as it goes to an electronic plug... Now obviously my new plug lead does not have one and there is no way (as far as i can see!!!) that you could possibly get that big polo onto the lead. Any info as to what it is and where/if i can get a lead with one on?? I have a 2L/16 9A engine code and it is the plug lead at the dizzy cap end. Cheers!
  2. I hav definitely pushed that button....it did not seem to do anything either??? ---------- Post added at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:05 PM ---------- Thanks for that, will have a look :-)
  3. What i like most is seeing the original prototype pictures with 'Scirocco' on the back having owned double figures of those :-)
  4. Pretty sure now it is something to do with the alarm which was basically un-used by the previous owner for 6yrs (!), he did not know how to turn it on (not as stupid as it sounds as there was a second switch on the dash as well as a master one in the engine bay) and so never used it. I just found the switch on the dash, changed the battery in the fob and it now 'works', at least locks the doors which is handy and the mechanic who took the battery off got an earfull of the alarm when he reconnected it.... for the first time last night pressing one of the buttons on the fob caused the rear lights to flash.... Anyone any idea what the buttons on the fob do?? it is a Clifton alarm and the fob has one big button in the middle and three small ones around it and there is even a small one on the side of the fob... Pressing two of them seems to lock the car....but above that i cannot work out what the difference is!!
  5. Yes, that was my thought too when it started happening though the i hear the ABS relay on start and there is a short delay before the light comes on (actually after i start moving - fault there!!!) ... i will listen again and see if they happen together, what is even weirder is it seems to be happening even after i turn the engine off...am wondering if it is the Clifton (?) alarm?? :-) Pretty confident about battery and alternator, just had alternator done a few weeks ago and lots of motorway driving so batt well charged but will check :-)
  6. This is a strange one, after i start, i hear what sound like a relay clicking slowly, intermittently for about 5mins...def not from the fusebox, sounds like it is behind the radio/instrument panel perhaps, everything electrical seems to be working, anyone any ideas???
  7. Cheers, thanks for that!! I notice that even with the fan on full the air flow is still pretty weak compared to the Rocco.... is there something else that could be wrong here?
  8. Any chance of pics to show me what is being talked about here as i am completely ignorant of what i should be looking at :-) ???
  9. So can i get hold of this VAG-COM? What do i need? I am totally green when it comes to Rado maintenance, are the front sensors on top of the struts? Do they just come apart? And taking the rear callipers off to get at the rear ones sounds challenging :-)
  10. aide! I am pretty sure it is only after you start to drive, but will be cleaning it again tomorrow and will check... assume it stays off until you drive :-)
  11. Thanks for that, VAG-COM?? Is that the dealer diagnostic equipment at a dealer? :-)
  12. Hi peeps, found the comments on the buying guide handy here, had this prob when i bought the car a few months ago and all disks and pads have been changed since then as well as one of the rear calipers...so pretty confident brakes themselves okay, brake fluid okay as secondary clutch cylinder went and that all got replaced... Any ideas as to how to diagnose what is wrong? e.g. how do i clean the sensors, check they are working :-) Thanks
  13. That is good to hear :-) Mine is an L so not sure that will be any good, i am sure i can experiment :-) Am over in NWales quite a lot so could take a diversion or meet you at a services?
  14. Thanks guys, owing to my long experience with Sciroccos (am i allowed to mention that word here?? we used to mention Corrados a lot - this is my first year without a Rocco for 13 yrs and my second stint with a Rado so happy to straddle the fence!!) i had cleaned brushes, pulled contacts out and all those wonderful jobs.... The original problem with the shelf was that it was actually custom screwed in very badly by the previous owner probably because the lugs at the front of the shelf were gone...that was why i could not get the shelf off though i could hear all the relays clicking away.... The hazards did not work either when they stop working, so my suspicion is it is either the relay or dodgy connections to the fusebox, i am hoping for the former as it seems to be behaving after a good dose of cleaner and wet and dry on the relay legs and in the holes in the fusebox :-) Thankfully i was not as big a div as i thought!!!
  15. Cheers guys will look his lunchtime when i am not illegally on this forum at work :-)
  16. This really is an embarassing one as my genuine VW handbook seems to suggest a removable, unclippable shelf - it does not mention having to unscrew anything to get at the fusebox....can anyone post a pic or tell me how to get at it? I have a problem that the indicators seem to randomly stop working so was going to change the relay but am exceedingly embarassed that i cannot get at the fusebox... Any advice on this prob would be appreciated too :-)
  17. I stand corrected but was half right - Halfords do not do a filter for the 2L/16V. They also do not do a plug lead set, they are special order at £200ea!! The plugs that fit are EON1s, the Bosch ones listed as compatible are the wrong size.... :-)
  18. Hi folks, Halford's do not list the air filter for the 2L/16 and the one for the 2L/8 does and the 1.8/16 not fit in the box, anyone know what the code is??? Looks like a Halford's one was in there so i am sure u can get one...The plug listing was wrong too (they did not fit in the hole!! - not me being a div the mechanic came out :-)) but that one is easy to fix as they are written on the sides of the ones in there !! Cheers :-)
  19. Cheers, everyone, everything is helpful but this is great, i am an expert taking Roccos to pieces but this is new territory :-) Bentley manual? Is that the publisher?
  20. Cheers, thanks for that...i think he has said the connectors have corroded or something similar, just 'haven't worked for years' sounds a bit sussy, checked my Porter manual and it did not say anything specific about the electric mirrors.... Cannot say i have ever seen a Haynes manual for a Corrado ? ---------- Post added at 09:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 AM ---------- And a completely non-techie question, why is my profile pic and signature pic not showing????
  21. Hi folks, new here and will be shortly acquiring my first Corrado since 2005 :) and i know the electric mirrors are not working...any good pointers to fixing? Just remembered i may even have a fix-it manual somewhere but it was one of these 4-in-one (Golf, Rocco, Rado, Polo) so it might not be of too much help.... Apparently it is 'just' the switch unit but 'not working for years' sounds slightly suspicious to me... i.e. why did you not fix it for years :-)
