  1. I knew it'd attract the 'good for the missus / a girl' comments. Why is that? Can a fella not drive a small hot hatch anymore? I bet it could be more nimble than a Mk5 Golf, and with the right tuning have a better power to weight ratio than the Mk5 Gti too, making it potentially a hoot on a twisty B or track.
  2. There has been one parked up near my office for the last 2 days now, first and only one I have seen here (I knew nothing of them until seeing it) it is in S-Line flavour, in a sexy blue colour - similar to: I have no idea how they are percived in the UK but I have to say I'm impressed, what a cool little car, a proper hot hatch, which I'm guessing will have a sorted interior - no need to look to Ibizas anymore for a small hot hatch in the VAG range, even looks smaller than the Polo to me. OK, no doubt there is a big difference in the price tag but I think they will be worth paying a bit extra for. I like it.
  3. You're a bit crackers aren't you? :-) I'm off to make a sandwich now..
  4. Excellent work Tom, I can appreciate the conversion being done with budget in mind, sure a newer PD lump would be nice but I am sure you'll be more than happy with the end result. I also quite like the fact that the engine will be from a similar era, plus I'm happy that your posts are readable and free of txt spk etc. :-) Keep up the good work and good luck with it all, I shall be following this one.
  5. My wife started getting dirty phone calls two weeks ago and she's worried her stalker found out her home address. He must have - the calls have stopped. A man rushes into his house and yells at his wife 'Brenda, pack ya things. I've just won the lottery,' Brenda replies, 'shall I pack for warm weather or cold?' 'I don't care,' says the man, 'just as long as you're out of the house by noon' Male/Female Definitions 1. THINGY (thing-ee) n. Female...... Any part under a car's hood. Male..... 6. Just clicked on the Blog section after reading this and was amazed to see so much spam. I think the ideas above are great way to prevent spamming, I was also thinking that there could be a mark as spam button a la message boards - which would flag it up to mods or just hide / delete it.
  7. I have just noticed that while there is the option to edit the title of ones thread, it does not show up on the main page, only once the thread has been clicked on does the edited thread title display. Is there an option for it to update on the thread list page? Andi - it took me a while to warm to the new site, but it is I have to say heaps better! Thank you for running the site and for all the time you plough into it. :)
  8. The wife said she's not wanting much for Valentine's Day. She said, "Just some chocolates and a few little surprises will do me." Kinder Eggs it is then.
  9. What do you call a video of pedestrians? Footage. A man was waiting for his wife to give birth. The doctor came and informed the dad that his son was born without a torso, arms, or legs. The son was just a head! But the dad loved his son and raised him as well as he could. Eighteen years later, the son was old enough for his first drink. The dad took him to a bar, tearfully told him he was proud of him, and ordered the biggest, strongest drink for his boy. With all the bar patrons looking on curiously, the boy took his first sip of alcohol. Swoooop! A torso popped out! The bar was dead silent, then burst into a whoop of joy. The father, shocked, begged his son to drink again. The patrons chanted, "Take another drink! Take another drink!" The bartender shook his head in dismay. Swoooop! Two arms popped out! The bar went wild. The father, crying and wailing, begged his son to drink again. The patrons chanted, "Take another drink! Take another drink!" But the bartender ignored the whole affair. By this time, the boy was getting tipsy. With his new hands, he reached down, grabbed the drink, and guzzled the last of it. Swoooop! Two legs popped out. The bar was in chaos. The father wept with joy. The boy stood up on his new legs. He stumbled to the left. He stumbled to the right. Then he stumbled through the front door and into the street, where a truck ran him over. The bar fell silent. The father moaned with grief. The bartender merely sighed and said, "He should have quit while he was a head." Why did the baker rob the bank? He needed the dough. What do you call a fly with no wings? A walk. What does a proud computer call his little son? A microchip off the old block What did the tie say to the neck? I think I'll just hang around.
  10. What do you call a man who lives in an envelope? Bill. What does a clock do when it's hungry? Goes back 4 seconds Why did the motorcycle take a break? Because it was "TWO TIRED" What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef.
  11. If I won the lotto tomorrow this is the car I would buy. Well one of them - I have spent hours and hours pondering my ultimate money no object garage.. :) On a side note, I would imagine nearly every Corrado owner on here as experienced the misery of getting filthy dirty, repairing their car, while being cold, wet with aches, pains and bruised knuckles in poor light, struggling on your back. That's what I thought of when I saw the assembly guys. How amazing would it be if it was that easy to work on your C?
  12. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4087947 - Halfway there..
  13. you think?!  Glad someone said it for me. When I was at school a teacher used to write RTFQ on the board before exams, now if I email my boss with a problem with some equipment I normally get RTFM back, so I was thinking if we need a RMFP button implementing? (Don't take it to heart tankybaby :) ) I was hoping to be home by now, but am stuck in the dessert on the outskirts of Scabbi Dhabi for another night, after reading your helpful comments I think I'll go have a peek at it on Saturday, I shall report back I with photos. I'm sure the red will grow on me, loved my old red Mk1 Golf cabby. Cheers.
  14. Would you even go and look at this: http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/au ... rice__lte= I've got such a severe hankering for a Corrado and I think I have seen 2 for sale since I moved here in Oct 09, this being the second and have only ever seen one in the flesh, was about 2 months ago, was Aqua blue and I had a right old moment - my mate who was with me at the time thinks I'm a bit odd now. So, anyway, shall I go see it or wait, possibly forever for the right one to turn up? I have seen a photo of it on a local BMW forum showing the front unshopped, quality looked OK (more than can be said for the dodgy shopping..) - well as far as one can tell from a photo, but the smooth front bumper does nothing for me.. I've also never pictured myself in a red 'rado, with the exception of Coullstar's.
  15. The new motor. Took it out for its first trip on the dunes yesterday :) Dune bashing / camping trips is the main reason I got it, that and the fact 4x4s are the norm here so you do feel a bit safer in one as the standard of driving in the UAE is abysmal. Fortuner. 4.0l V6. It's not broken, my mate opened the bonnet to help it cool down - don't know why, the temp gauge was fine... but I figured it couldn't hurt. Not really expecting anyone on here to be interested in a Toyota, but I quite like updating this thread every now and then. :)
  16. I miss my Octy vRS, was a quality , well built car. I agree the interior wasn't up to Audi standards, but it was nice enough and didn't rattle at all and felt solid enough. I only had it for 15 months from new but needless to say nothing ever went wrong, same can't be said for the Audi I just got shot of... I've not bothered clicking on the link - it contains the word 'yahoo' and I gave up reading their garbage a while ago now. Their pieces on cars are usually woeful. I had a couple of days off this week and went for a shufty around the VW dealership here, (sales staff are great btw) anyway I pop in every now and then as I want to test drive the R-Line 'rocco, was told this time they don't think it's coming to the middle east, but I sat in a very, very sexy one they had stuck all the bits to, the interior was stunning. I then walked over and jumped in a pre owned one - the dash looked all shiny and cheap, the seats looked worn to hell, and it only had 16k kms on it.. :gag:
  17. I had been hankering after a Corrado for ages then went to my local VW specialist who's a bit of a trader too and saw a C sitting there, I had one of those "I properly really need and want that in my life" moments! I couldn't take my eyes off it - I know that sounds a touch sad. Anyway my old Mk1 Golf Cabby went up for sale the next day and 2 weeks later I picked it up and I will never ever forget the first drive in it to my now ex's house, a drive I had done countless times over the years in every car I have ever owned since passing my test. I couldn't stop grinning like a loon and booting it! The noise was plain sexual and having grunt in 5th gear was an utter novelty. The drive was a mix of dual carriage way then out in to the sticks - I could hit the corners faster than ever before, when I got to her street I didn't want to stop. No car has had that same effect on me, I doubt any ever will, I've driven more capable, faster, tighter cars but none have made me fall in love with them like my old raddo did that first day! One week later the thermostat housing cracked while I was out and that was just the begining! LOL
  18. Some amazing photos! 15 and 41 being two of my favourites! I thought though there were a couple that don't deserve to be in there, such as the Camper.
  19. Quality post Kev, pictures are very good quality too. I do like the last manifold, will be sure to cure the warping issue. Why don't you get busy making one as I guess even with your mod's it's only a matter of time until the refaced manifold warps again - fingers crossed it'll last longer this time. It's posts like the above that make me really miss having a modified car to tinker with.
  20. Thanks for the reply Kev. It's very interesting to know that Vince can do maps to ship out. I've been looking at both the C2 and HPA sites before now, like the look of this: http://www.hpamotorsport.com/ft425-special.htm as it comes with the DSG software.. :) Spotted this the other day http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/au ... -golf-r32/ 3 doors are like rocking horse poo out here for some reason. I've had my heart set on a 997 turbo for ages but if I'm honest I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much money (spunk years of savings and take on a loan..) and I'm missing having a project and a VW so this is very, very appealing. I guess I could restrict myself to driving it hard when its cooler.. :)
  21. I'm seriously considering turboing a Mk5 R32 - thing is I live in the Middle East and ambient temps in the summer as I'm sure you know get hot hot hot - they can push 50degrees at their highest, so I have some concerns with regard to induction temperatures, are they justified? I'd probably go for a kit so I know the intercooler will fit, but should I be thinking about putting in the largest one I can? Going charge cooler with some fans fitted on the rad? Adding water injection? The cars that are sold here are GCC specification (Gulf Cooperation Council - Saudi, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait) which I believe means they have a chunkier cooling and a/c set up. I wonder if the fuelling is also adjusted to help? The other major issue I have is the mapping, I think I would have to go for an off the shelf solution, I'll have to see if there is anywhere that does mapping with a rolling road in the region but I doubt this very much. Do modern fuel injection systems compensate for air temperature variations? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Chris.
  22. x2 Good to see you back and I'm looking forward to some mega updates; if there was an award for photo heavy posts you sir would win. :D If you're not feeling the KR anymore why not drop something modern like a 2.0TFSI in there? :norty:
  23. Jim - have some fun whilst getting rid of the birds:  Bird turd and welded on flies come off easily with the use of a wet steaming hot dish cloth, leave it draped over said poo and flies and viola after a few mins it all wipes off dead easy. Heat FTW! Pressure washers should only be used to clean driveways IMO. Good luck with the VR MOT. :)
  24. ? sorry, Im still a bit sleepy, what do you mean? After reading the junglists' comment several times I believe he means: "My car was slower than yours when it was 12v, it will surely be even slower now you have gone 24v. Good work chap"
