cheers for the replys. this is not something id fancy attempting myself, to be honest id rather pay someone to do the shells as the most ive done on this engine is oil seals and routine servicing so its going to be around £200 im materials (in guessing a KR is a 16v for the crank) and worse case scenario about £500 labour, does this sound about right? sorry for all the questions but as you can probably tell im an engine building newbie. cheers, karl.
-
yeah i might just try doing the shells first and hope for the best, as you said , its an easy enough job to do, few hours ish, but if its scored the crank im going to be looking at a big bill and was just wondering what to expect? any ideas?
-
hi, as some of you may know i have a g60 rado with a bottom end knock, ive tried selling it as-is with no joy so im just wondering what you lot think it would cost to make her run sweet again? as the mk2 golf im running around in at the mo is boring me to tears. cheers, karl.
-
i agreed on £100delivered with him for his g60 bottom end, he wanted me to send a postal order then get his brother to deliver the bottom end to me after he has cashed it. sounded too dodgy so ive passed on that, surely if hes all over the country with his delivery? driving he could deliver and just have the cash off me. will just have to rebuild my bottom end myself
-
get it looking like my mates jetta and you will be laughing, this one bought from german ebay 8)
-
as stated above, go for the ones that have been looked after regardless of mileage, my g60 is on 98k now and the bottom end is knocking so i think its had a hard life
-
yeah im hoping its just the shells, got a feeling its going to be expensive though, still its tucked away in the garage now for its retirement. im having that polo from ste so definately coming down in the standard of car im driving, for now anyway. so whats this new one that you got like? put some pics up
-
not fallen out yet rob, its still "just about" in there, it runs, but rattles and bangs all over the place
-
ive spoke to you before, at your work a few months back, your car looks tidy and should command a decent price, dont let it go for pennies
-
im putting my g60 in the garage to be stripped, so theres another
-
i sold my mates black 16v rado that had a digi dash from an astra fitted, everything worked exept the speedo. sold it on ebay to a guy from ireland. looked half decent too in black, smoothed bumper etc, (bit similar to jbob's but no where near as tidy)
-
my pooch has been in the rado on the back seat, sakes him a minute to get comfy due to the hump in the rear bench but hes happy enough, about the same size as a shepard too as i got a siberian husky.
-
i might just take it off the road, buy a cheap old banger to drive around in for a bit. i was going to break it middle of next year anyway as the bodywork is very rough and i wanted the engine and brakes etc for my mk1 project. its only done 98k so im a bit surprised the engine has gone the way it has
-
well a few weeks ago you might have read that the mrs crashed my g60 into the back of her own polo (dont ask), knackering the wing and busting the headlight  its gets worse, theres been a bit of a rattle under load coming from under the bonnet i thought it was waterpump on its way out but no its little end, so its an engine rebuild for me. happy xmas karl, just what i needed
-
not sure what they go for, but a mate of mine has a 2.9 vr engine with hardly any miles on it, he started a mk2 vr conversion ages ago and never got round to finishing it so the car is now being broken for spares. i bet you could prize that engine off him for a good price. he runs a garage so you can get hold of him through his website, http://www.vwrescue.co.uk cheers, karl.
-
to be honest im not that bothered, the bodywork on the g60 isnt brilliant and the drivers door needs paint anyway. would be a different story if the car was mint
-
its one of those "you would never believe it type stories" her little polo is playing up, shes paranoid about driving it (water pump has packed up and it runs off the timing belt on those so im not touching it), so i drove it to my mates garage today, with her following me in the g60. bet you can guess where this is going....... i stopped at a junction and bang!!! she crashed into her own car, driving my car shes caved in the lower rear valence and rear bumper on herss and broke the headlight and knackered the wing on mine. pics to follow when i can be arsed to get the camera out
-
well the charger didnt blow up, its still in one piece after the trip to ed38, just going to have to be a bit of trial and error to find out whats wrong with it
-
its a knocking noise, you can feel it through the plastic cover that goes over the pulley end of the alternater, im just a bit paranoid that its going to go bang and leave bits of charger all over the M6 or M1 this weekend
-
right, with the car parked up and running, all is good but you rev above 2500 revs and theres a rumbling/knocking noise from around the charger/alternater area, this noise is only between 2500 & 3000 revs but the noise is always there when driving after 2500 revs. now i know this is obviously not good but ive got full intention of having my other charger rebuilt when i get a few quid together for piece of mind. now i really want to go to ed38 this weekend and im only going to have the g60 available to go in, think i should risk it and just drive the 150 mile trip with the dodgy noise?? karl.
-
too right! think the clip was a slightly cheaper option
-
turned out to be the circlip, well there were bits of circlip under the gaitor., ive cut up a washer to use as a temporary fix till i can find the proper clip. thanks guys. karl.
-
ahh, sounds promising. will check for that clip tomorow when i go back over the garage. cheers for that. karl.
-
hi all, ive not had my corrado long but its now getting a right pig to get 2nd gear, im the sort of person that normally assumes its the worst thing possible so are there any checks i can do before i go and get another gearbox?? thanks, karl.
-
cheers, need to find a breaker sharpish then. thanks for your help. karl.
