G60 | Flash Red | South Wales Price: £4500 Description: 1992 Corrado G60 Mileage - 49,080 Flash Red Concours OEM+ Gallery: http://smg.beta.photobucket.com/user/ewang3/story/409 - The Story This has been my labour of love for the past 6 years. Bought as a non-running barn find back in 2006 with a blown charger and an inch of dust covering the original paintwork. It's been an absolute pleasure to own, polish, pamper and drive over the years but now it's due time for someone else to enjoy. - The History Inherent with many barn finds the original service manual has long gone from the glove box. Besides from the previous owners pile of MOTs and sale receipts and more importantly the V5, I've added my own mountain of receipts to the ever growing service history. The restoration has been thorough and expensive and it's all here in pictures and paperwork. Having extensively researched the chassis numbers and engine plates via close connections with VAG dealers, I have concluded what you see is what you get with this one, 50k or 250k it's a very very clean and well loved example indeed. - Awards Best Corrado in Show GTi International 2009-2010 Concours runner-up BVF 2009 Autoglym commended VAG day Castle Combe Concours runner-up Westside VW 2009 - Bodywork Finished in original VW Flash Red in overall excellent condition throughout. The roof line, rear quarters and wings are all faultless, the tailgate and bumper is pristine. The drivers door has been repaired in the past, of which the paint match is slightly off in bright sunlight and has a small trolley mark on the swage line. The front end has a few stone chips but overall in brilliant condition for the original paint. All the original rubber and trim is excellent, anything that wasn't has been replaced using genuine parts. NOS (new old stock) front and rear badges (black or chrome). The original 90mm front splitter has a small crack underneath and has faded slightly, I have an unopened original 50mm splitter available in the sale. The rear spoiler works perfect. - Engine Complete rebuild back in 2007 with new everything. All the alloy brackets for the charger, alternator and all ancillary pulleys and mounts have been shot cleaned and restored to original factory look. The charger and brackets have been restored by Darren at the late G-Werks. Includes a new alternator, water pump, all belts and pulleys, all bolted back together with stainless nuts and bolts throughout. The intercooler is standard with new stainless clips on original pipework, a few of the water pipes and intercooler pipes have been upgraded to Samco Silicon. - Internals The internals, pistons, bearings, cylinder bores were all checked for signs of wear and found to be in excellent condition. The sump was replaced after a leak was found and a few stone chips started rusting. The head gasket and all ancillary exhaust gaskets and inlet seals were replaced as part of the head rebuild. - Head The head was rebuilt in 2009 after a suspected head gasket fail. It was found to be a faulty water pump seal. The head was professionally flowed, polished and rebuilt by Oselli racing in Oxford. They've worked on several of my engines in the past including 16v KR and B series engines, their workmanship is second to none. The head work alone added a huge difference to the throttle response and overall torque curve. - Inlet Fully overhauled throttle body with new microswitches, gaskets and springs. The fuel rail wiring also received an upgrade. - Exhaust The exhaust system is a G-Werks 4-2-1 stainless manifold hooked unto a Milltek Sport system. 3" oval tailpipe, with a bespoke de-cat centre pipe and lambda probe boss. Slightly tinny on warm-up when the manifold is cold but soon calms down. Not at all loud on the open road, one thing I was very concerned about when upgrading the exhaust, the Milltek system has the standard size mufflers and bore making the system flow much quicker without compromising on sound. - Electrics The vast majority of the engine bay wiring looms were replaced and updated. New battery terminals and fuse relays for the interior and upgraded earth connections throughout. All stock of course, nothing overly modified or butchered. - Charger Rebuilt by G-Werks back in 2008 and once again checked in 2010. The internals have been de-burred and lightly ported but not overly worked, I believe this is a light stage 2 porting. It's had the wider belt conversion done and lighter smaller main pulley (70mm). G-Werks also installed an SNS chip to compliment the charger, exhaust and aid in fuel consumption. - Chassis I decided to replace all the original suspension with a Weitec GTN kit, which combines height adjustable coil-overs up front and adjustable spring mounts at the rear. Along with the suspension upgrade all the wishbones, track-rod-ends, bushes, nuts and bolts were all replaced with OEM parts. - Wheels I have various wheel options available. The most expensive being a set of NOS BBS RM's, these where bought in Germany back in 2005. They've never been split, polished or curbed and took a great deal of effort to acquire. The centre caps where also sourced from VW's old stock and are all perfect. The date stamped on the back is circa 1998 so this set is one of the last ever produced by BBS. - Also available is a pristine set of Sebrings (the original G60 alloy) with new Michelin tyres. - Also available, BBS RZ's, the one-piece version of the RM. These need refurbishment but come with good tyres all round. I'm open to sensible offers regarding final choice of wheels. - Rear axle The rear axle is or was the next thing to restore on my list. Although in excellent working order it's the only part I haven't refurbished. Saying that the hubs where replaced with the suspension/brake job. Again, as with most parts I have a perfect condition rear axle to bolt on but this will not be done for the sale. - Front axle As you can from the pix this was fully rebuilt and powered coated back in 2011 after the steering rack seals failed. A new steering rack was fitted at the time along with yet more new steering parts, bushes, bolts and fixings. - Brakes New callipers front and back along with pads, discs, Goodrich hoses and wheel bearings back in 2009/2010. With a good few european shows covered through 2009 - 2011, they're all still in excellent condition despite a small amount of surface rust. The ABS system works perfect. - Interior Original Corrado G60 leather option back in 1992. The rear seats are near perfect condition still with original warning triangle in the zipped pocket and NOS unopened first-aid kit in the armrest. The drivers bolsters are all good with minimal signs of wear and the height-adjust mechanisms work perfectly. The whole interior has been stripped out, washed, steamed and anti-bacterially treated. Nothing has snapped or teared, it's all there in excellent condition. All the dashboard switches and light bulbs are working as they should. The slide n tilt sunroof, wing mirrors, rear fog, electric windows all work without fault. Momo Race steering wheel, Original leather wheel is still available. - Stereo I've been through various head units throughout the years but settled on this Alpine CDE head unit with built in Parrot system and discrete iPhone connection, the facia colours match the green VW colours. The door pods have been upgraded to Audioscape with Rainbow components. JBL standard size rear speakers. Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amplifier currently running the components. - Summary Private G60 Registration Full G60 Leather Oselli Flowed/Polished/Treated head Rebuilt Blueprinted Engine G-Werks Supercharger G-Werks 4-2-1 SS Manifold SNS Chip Milltek Sport SS Exhaust BBM Charge outlet BBS RM, Toyo Proxies Rainbow Components Audioscape Door Pods Alpine Headunit Currently SORN off the road for winter, but can be driven on short private roads. Viewing by appointment only in South Wales. I'll be glad to answer any questions.

Last one in the UK? I love it when dealers say that, I bought a 50mm last weekend from Capitol Skoda. It's virtually impossible for any dealer to know exactly how many items are left in the UK at any given point, maybe from their main suppliers yes. The amount of times I've heard 'obsolete' from a dealer only to find said part myself, phoning around other VAG suppliers. There is so many VAG suppliers and 3rd party oem vag outlets around the country that main stream dealers have no stock information from. In my experience, there's still a hell of a lot of parts available for the Corrado and even MK1 Golfs for that matter, from the Classic VW suppliers over in Germany. Any dealer worth his salt will give you details about this service. Sorry I'm not having a rant here, but after years of restoration work and spending hours accessing ETKA at the main dealers, there's very few parts (despite the obvious) that I've yet to find. You may have to pay through the nose of course, unless you've got good club discount 8)

Haven't posted on here for a while.. few from last year. I think the Corrado wears red very well, especially with bright, clean rims and deep black trim bits. It's a colour that needs to be very clean, even with dirty rims and a weeks worth of road grime they look crap. :::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::

Thanks muchly! I'll have a fiddle this week and see if that makes any difference.

Spent the last few hours searching but nothing exact.. Just finished doing the head gasket on my G60.. I've replaced all possible sensors in the process including the Blue Temp Sensor, but when I disconnect this to set the timing, the engine cuts out?! It didn't do this before with the older temp sensor that was apparently dodgy (checked by G-Werks). I figured the revs should just dip and not cause the engine to stall. I went ahead and set the timing at 2500, with the BTS plugged in.. the engine still runs fine, if a little hotter than usual, which is why I'm concerned the timing is slightly out due to the BTS advancing the timing and giving my strobe light a false reading?! hhmm..

Yeh thats the advert that made me want one as a kid. Think I've still got it somewhere... The bottom pic is a bit cheesy I admit. The backdrop is the transporter bridge in Newport.. Original image from a few years back..

Having spent ages doing this one up, I kinda understand why people get miffed off and sell them. But it's the same with any old car, stick with it mate! I keep reminding myself.. these cars were nearly £20k when new over 16yrs ago!! And still loads better looking than some of the new crap out there! word ew -

Finally rolled it out last weekend. Pasted the mot without any bother, although the clutch slave cylinder has just decided to die  Another weekend in the garage it is then. Yes I know she's running a little high on the back at the mo.. Took some pix though.. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: -
I know there's a million posts on here about wiring alarms but I've spent the last hour searching and reading.. so I'll ask.. Fitting a new immobilizer and alarm, where is it best to intercept the fuel pump power supply? The original alarm system simply cut off the supply to the starter motor via the steering column (red/blk wire), but this new alarm has an additional fuel pump cut off circuit. I know the fuel pump is controlled by the ecu which in turn controls the fuel pump relay. I'm wondering if the yellow/black ignition wire on the steering column will do the job, or should I go for the relay power supply? If so, anyone know what wire? I have reached my limit of understanding the Bentley wiring diagrams! Not to jeopardize anyones car getting jacked by disclosing the wire colours.. pm me! :D

My rear bumper irons (the metal bits behind the plastic) are shot.. Anyone know if MK2 Golf big bumper irons are the same? They don't look far off!

Yeah no probs.. I'll dig out some more pix and post up a how to thread. I basically get all my paints and supplies from http://www.frost.co.uk A bit expensive for some of their products but they do get shipped over from the states. The Eastwood line of paints are pretty amazing when it comes to durability. Makes Hammerite look like poster paint! Most of the components like the pulleys and rough cast brackets can be wire brushed down to bare metal, as they're dip coated originally. These don't need rust treatment, just a few light coast of Zinc Etch Primer (Halfrauds) then whatever colour top coat you want. I mostly used Eastwood Chassis Black, dries very hard, especially when cured after normal engine operation. The rad support has a hollow section running through it, so it's impossible to get inside to de-rust. Here I spent half the day wire brushing all the outer rust off using a wire cup attachment on an angle grinder. Once down to bare metal you can dip the whole section in a rust treatment solution like Dinitrol Converust in a large plastic container for a few hours. This gets into the hollow section nicely. After that, more Zinc Etch Primer and Chassis Black will give you a finish much more durable and longer lasting than the original finish. For the pulleys, Eastwood do a Detail Grey paint that is the same colour as freshly cast or machined steel. Not as good as zinc plating but much cheaper and less hassle.. Hope this gets you started :) -

Cheers m8, just hope it stays this clean this time 8) The cross member came from a guy on here a few months back. Only slightly better condition than my original but a few de-rust baths, coats of zinc etch primer and chasis black and it turned out pretty good. I've spent half my life buying and testing different products for rust and finishing, hence the MG in the background. Most of the parts have been spray can jobs then put in a low bake oven (when house mates aren't in). As long as the prep is good, the paint will stick well and be tough as the metal itself. -

With all the parts finally in front of me I quit cleaning stuff and made a big leap forward last weekend to get it running. I'm just waiting on one intercooler bracket now from G-werks, they lost the one I left them so they've ordered a new one from vag.. one less bracket I have to strip and paint anyway. 8) After triple checking every pipe and most bolts I filled it with liquids and gave it a go. Took a few attempts to get going, timing was out at the dizzy and I hadn't plugged in the alarm. Luckily I decided not to rip out the original alarm loom before start up, I'll need to pull all that out and replace it with a new one as the remote fob and key have gone missing at some point. It runs though! Albeit a tad lumpy and the idle is all over the place.. a few hours reading the Bentley and scouring the forums for fault finding write ups and fingers crossed it'll be good enough for a trip down to G-Werks for a final tweek. I think the alternator has seen better days after being stored so long, if anything at all it's reading near zero on the ammeter.. so thats another 100 bucks I haven't got.. brilliant. :???: The charger is loud as a mo fo without the airbox installed, whistling and whining like something annoying.. love it! Just the back shocks, brakes and bearings before being mobile again after over a year in storage.. even German cars don't like sitting doing nothing half their life. When I'm happy it's running ok it'll be back in the garage for an interior strip and major paint detail. The back seat still has a big rip in it, the stereo is none existent and the old alarm needs replacing properly. Besides, the interior needs a good scrub and taking it all out is the only way really.. just seats, carpet and door cards though. Hopefully this will be the last update before getting it back on the road! Some pix... Arse shots: :::::::::::::::::::::::: Lets hope it stays this way for a few more years.. :::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::: A couple of lights and a grill to go.. :::::::::::::::::::::::: Rear axle overhaul.. :::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::: Wish it would stay that mileage! :::::::::::::::::::::::: -
Ok.. well there's apparently nothing much the police can do to help, It's too small a complaint to warrant an officer visiting his home?! They suggested I take this up with the forum moderators, but they have no responsibility for sales through this forum of course. So far Mat owes: Ewang33 - Rad support - £80 joeG60 - foglamp £20 GTi.Si - ECU £70 If anyone else is having trouble with Mat or if anyone finds Corrado parts for sale on eBay via this guy please let me know. Thanks Ewan
