  1. After the engine was out i shipped it over to Graham DG autotech and removed the cylinder head for inspection and found a lot of oil build up on the top of the pistons and head and vertical score marks on the cylinder liners letting oil round the piston rings. We concluded when i changed the cylinder head a few years previously there must of been debris particles left on the pistons which caused these score marks, there was also significant wear at the top of the bore a pronounced ridge more than what would be expected for a 50K engine. With this in mind i started to clean the piston and all the bottom end was also stripped and the crank removed then the block went to the 'man in a shed'(local old engineer) who re honed the block for me.
  2. Hi all i hope all is well been over 3 years since drove the corrado last so thought i would update you people, i know a few folks have seen it over the past few months so whats been happening? Sept 2011 was the last time i used the car so put it away in storage and really didnt get time or the money to use it as trying to keep the business afloat, but 1 day got board so decided to do a proper OCD clean and remove the engine ETC as this is the only way i would be happy with the car. So after advice from Graham @ DG autotech got my trusty halfords tool kit out and started removing parts, in hindsight i should of took a lot more info of where pars go. Never the less after a few weeks all brackets, charger, radiator etc all off now just get the crane to lift the engine out,it was a bit of a ball ache to be fair on my own not knowing what to do but managed it now the hard work begins. Ill try and keep the tread going with more updates i really wanted to get it to stanford hall but it didn't happen as uncovering many paint issues so may be 2015 so looking for a repaint but more on this later.

  9. hi all a few updates been a little quiet as work is picking up and getting busy, dont worry i wont be ready for stanford hall got to much to do. I started to take the front end apart again as got board, there were a few bit like the calipers and brake hose clips corroded which were bugging me and also the hubs were bad to. I knew i was not going to get them looking there best without blasting them, but i found deox gel from bilt hamber a thick paste which will lift corrostion away so i gave it a go. I used it on the hubs and lots of bolts you paste it on cover with cling film leave 24 hours and rinse, i was amazed it turns a brown colour lifts the rust off, saved me buying new bolts. I also got a few bits blasted reay for coating.just deciding on colours
  10. good work are you going to colour sand the car like the corrado?
  11. ok little confused with these light weight crank pulleys, those bartek ones are all one piece the origianl ones that come off there is a big round heavy weight that sits inside the crank pulley, can you tell me what its purpose of it is, and what gains will be had by light weight ones. found a pic of a VW motorsport set up off a rallye it used a toothed belt but still uses the heavy weight?
  12. nice rims shaun but a bit scene, follow the link a set of 343mm alcon monoblock calipers brand new and a fair price. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alcon-Extreme-Bra ... 27b85104ab

  18. Is your car ready for the winter months? detailing becomes essential to protect your vehicle. Detailing is thought off as a luxury treatment but it serves a very important part of vehicle ownership, it should be as natural as keeping regular servicing. Many owners purchase their new vehicle and spent money on optional extras, tyres, servicing cost etc and neglect the paintwork and other surfaces normally finding the cheap hand car wash to get the car clean, well that’s what you think its quick and easy and convenient and cheap. In fact you will be doing more damage than you realise, think how many cars pass through these a day and how much you are paying someone to work on your new prized vehicle. Most of the products and techniques used are harsh and chemical based and not used or diluted correctly and are normally the cheapest to maximise profit. These products can dull paint corrode and tarnish the alloys and other chrome trim so in the long run the car will be damaged and more money spent on repairs to put them right. This is where professional detailers come in, ‘ so what is detailing?’ Detailing is a specialist vehicle care service working to the highest standards with the best knowledge, the best polishes, sealants and natural waxes, to bring an exquisite finish to your vehicle. As well as making your car look its best detailing also has a functional benefit, with multiple processes to help keep clean and protect your cars paintwork, leather, fabrics, alloys, against day-to-day use, and harsh weather. All this adds up to a better looking, longer lasting, high gloss shine. A detail takes from 1 day to 3 weeks dependent on the treatment and the condition of the car and the finish desired. There is a lot more process involved and time taken to inspect, wash, clean and protect your vehicle, ready for protection. All products are hand-picked and tested by myself they are all water based and safe for your vehicle and the environment. A detailed vehicle will be protected from the harsh weather conditions and be easier to keep clean on a regular basis, and help against residual value. So next time your car is getting a little tired and needs some attention think twice before using the quick alternative as it may cost you a lot more money in the long run just for convenience. http://www.depthofshine.co.uk
  19. well it wont matter because its been blocked which they did not do at the factory, we need to take this into consideration as most corrados have been painted, so we should look for good paint finish instead, this will show how good your body shop is as most can paint and polish (just) but struggle with paint refinishing.
  20. looking good the paint looks nice and flat to me, did they block it with 2000 grit, i would get them to check the rest of the paint and maybe block it all so it matches. Oherwise the arse end will look differnt and who likes factory finish anyway, will only be 1 point deducted :D Get a bright light to shine on the paintwork to check for swirls and holograms, and if you need some paint refinishing give me a buzz. just finishing off a blsck DBS over 30hours machine polishing, and still going
  21. Hi hope you all well, the g60 back on the road after getting R32 bushes done and new bilstien shocks, ball joints and tie rod ends then a visit to DG thanks to Graham for doing the tracking for me. So for the last 4 weeks been enjoying getting some driving done. Went out today for a 20miles blast in the country got stuck behind sunday drivers a few times, and people pulling out onto a national speed limit roads paying no attention to whats coming. I think a new clutch is needed soon as struggled to get gears at 6750rpm, plenty of sliding and lift off over steer on greasy islands and plenty wheel spinning, and trying to stay in a straight line. im paying the price now as the whole car is covered in a thin film of road salt. :mad2:
  22. mmm keeping a close eye on this thread make sure you get plenty of pics the refinishing stage. are you going to go this flat with the paint.
  23. is this what your after lifetime warrenty and a new genuine vw parts, im yet to fit it but if enough intersest the supplier would do discount on 20 or over will have to check some of emails for prices.
  24. mmm gold ................... good work bruny and i like the car-coon i think it going to get serious next year so count me out. give me a buzz if you want the paint sorted ready for show season.
