if you take out the old switch and shake it , you might find that the little shards of broken prespex that jam it up fall out making it work again
-
check the battery earth lead , may only be a few strands holding it to the clamp
-
cheers mate , how did you do that?
-
sorry about the size of this i spent ages f@$kin around trying to make it smaller but couldn't so gave up does anyone know what alloy wheels were optional for the 16v as i would like to change mine over... but am a bit of a purist when it comes to stuff like that
-
this stuff stays in the boot at all times all the tools sit in the spare wheel along with hose clips and cable ties

sorry about starting a new thread on this but i was after some specific info on the best oil for my usage. . and my question seemed to get swallowed up in the other thread..... i have a 1991 1.8 16v its done 180k i'v been running it on the semi synthetic oil from halfords {green bottle} as the last owner said the engine rattled badly on fully synthetic , which worked a treat in my 8v rocco but i find with the semi synthetic that the car 1 . uses lots, "n" lots 2 . still rattles when engine temp is high 3 . smoke,s also i use the car all day /every day often doing short journeys or finding myself stuck in traffic reading the BEST OIL thread . synta silver comes highly recommended. BUT and hears the expert advice bit i need .. is it right for me?

Seen a few new rados round notts recently and thought it would be good to put some CF names to rados... i,m in a 1991 16v dark purple and standard
-
rado had some issues with starting recently making me think that the battery was fooked! i was all ready to take the heavy duty battery back and swap it for new when i noticed negative lead from battery to metalwork had corroded through at the point where its crimped onto the battery negative clamp .. Seems that only one or two strands were left in the crimped part of the clamp and as i inspected it the feckin thing just dropped off ..... my Rados 1991 1.8 16v and i advise owners of older rados and newish rado owners {won,t hurt} check the leads {MASSIVE FAILURE of battery negative lead} what happens? 1. you drive round happliy all day starting and stopping no problem 2. you stop turn the engine off and go do somthing 3. BATTERY LEAD SUFFERS MASSIVE FAILURE 4. you get back in car and try to start engine , nothing happens? 5. every thing seems fine though? 6. the didgital clocks ok it didnt fade or reset when you turned the key 7. you heard the sound of the fuel pump working 8. you try starting again , nothing happens 9. you think you disarmed the immobilizer wrong, 10. no you didnt you did it right 11, you hook up a jumpstart pack and try starting again 12. engine turns over but slow / laboured 13. you think that the jumpstart pack flat too 14. so you rig up an extension lead 240v so that you can plug the jumpstart pack in to its charger while you use it 15. at this point you get a lucky break! the croccodile clamp bridges the break in the negative lead and battery clamp 16. car starts and you think feckin halfords feckin battery this happened to me on my drive luckily

DiTch replied to Mancorr's topic in Engine Bay
mmmm i looked at that engine bay pic, and thought that looks familiar,... so just ran down to the garage, and yep at some point in the cars past , the same mod was done to mine , iv had the car for over a year and with the look of the hose clips i would say that they are two to three years old .... gulp! .... so why would the heater matrix explode? (i dont savey?) -
mike at the vw breakers { place in notts that i took my corrado to be fixed} first tryed the pipes off a derelict corrado in the lot. but they leaked in the same place, so ordered and installed new pipe from vw, and i agree my car also seems to run better too
-
no it was deffo the pipe from the fuel pump to the fuel accumulator as i saw the leak myself, anyhow had a new pipe installed today and the leaks gone , so i can smoke in it again .... { on a side note i had to use the company mondeo for the last day and a half, and i must say i was impressed with the cup holder,

I HAVE A 1.8 16V TOO AND MINE SMOKES A BIT ASWELL, i found that it was more obviouse in the summer when it was hot and i was stuck in traffic , anyway the other day i thought i would put a set of new plugs in ,, and on pulling the leads found that the spark plug wells were full of oil , each well had "less oil in" the further away it was from the oil filler cap,, i thought it may have some bearing

Whats a peloquin diff ?

Found to my horror! that what i assumed to be a nighbours tom cat spraying my car with p%&s every night for the last couple of weeks . was in fact petrol leaking from someplace between the fuel pump and fuel accumulator,{{ located near the front of the rear wheel,}}.... on inspection i found the usual story of corroded pipes and nuts/bolts {cars booked in tomorrow for repair, } i advise that all forum members give this section of the fuel system the once over. cheers
