battery 12.3v ?............. sounds knackered ! ..... try jump starting it mate, if it starts .... the batterys thrown its hand in
-
just a thought !, as i re read this thread i remembered that a couple of months ago my battery died for no reason and with no prior warning i remember at the time the lcd would dim when i turned the ignition and the oil warning light stayed on there was also a noise, that i took to be a relay chattering at the time , { but could have been warning buzzer} , this noise would not stop until i had turned the ignition off, .......... i jump started my car from a yellow jump start unit that i had i the boot and drove to get a new battery , when i load tested the old battery i found that it was defective { no guts , amps} but still showed 13v

I reconnected the vac hose from the back of the dash yesterday to the t piece i mention at the start of this thread .... then today i checked CrazyDave,s post... so i then disconnected vac hose and tryed sucking on it? ,.... yep it leaked .... so i disconnected it ...again, can,t see that i need it anyway { cant be arsed to remove the gauge pod}...... cheers CrazyDave

funny that !..... i have a 1991 16v and when i took it for a service at vw in march i was told the same thing and my level in the reservoir has never changed... weird

check the oil pressure switch as they often go ...... start the engine then look for oil bubbling out of the plastic moulded top where the tab for the spade connector sticks out ...... when this switch fails oil is often sprayed onto the dip stick and surounding pipes, { looking a lot worse than it is}.... hopfully its the culprit as its easy to change and cheap.... mine went a few weeks ago

"radar detector" ... i like it , ill look into this, got a few days off work next week and some {tinkerin} time on me hands some kind of audioable alarm i think .....{not like the hidden warning buzzer} ... and sensors mounted in the front grill , ... no messy dashtop device, ........ also like the idear of a complex starting ritual.... thought i would mount my switch aft of the gear stick near the handbrake..................BLUE NEONS?....im speachless!

i have a 1991 1.8 16v { if i had g60 i wouldn,t ask this question} ....... while buying some switches for a job i was doing i saw a {arm warhead} style red switch cover , so i got it,, and the switch that fitted it , iv since been racking my brain trying to come up with somthing on my raddo to run through this "switch" .... so i open this up to the forum , idears wellcome ..... please no bond stuff! .... my car will happily drop oil on its own without my intervention.. cheers

get a multi meter and check that you have continuity { beep test} on the black/ red cable , extend the end of the cable in the boot with alarm cable to the fuse box, disconnect the end in the fuse box and check that you have a circuit ,, then look for a dead short to earth ,, someone may have screwed around in the past conecting extra brake lights on the circuit or putting towing power connections on it , there could just be a bad joint in the cable

did a few searches on this befor posting. but could not find anything like it, ......... was messsing about with mfa today doing { ignition on , hold button ign, off still holding button, ing, on thing} and noticed that the miles readout on mfa 2 started to show a digital readout of rev counter? .. weird.. it resets its self and goes back to normal once the engine is turned off ..... now a couple of weeks ago i change my slave cylinder. and while i was doing this my brother pointed out that a, T piece conected to { plastic thing at the top of the engine bay above the intake manifold,, its called the check valve. i think?} had one side covered with red tape, ... now i could find nothing to connect to the taped up side of the, T piece . so i removed the T piece compleatly .. iv since found the black VDO hose from the back of the dial pod, so should i reinstate the T piece and conect the black hose? .... and what will it do if i do? .... and why would someone have dis,t it in the first place??

i was wondering if i should clean my engine bay as ...nNO1 top of engine covered in oil/ gearbox covered in oil and 15 years of grime also oil pi@@ed out all over front of engine thanks to oil pressure switch thats suppose to let me know about that kind of thing, but didn,t ,, i had to hear about it from floor of garage a day later instead... NO2 i noticed that a lot of crap tends to gather on the strut just underneath the expansion tank.. the kind of crap that soaks up water and could lead to RUST!! . My brother told me to jet wash the engine and bay just avoiding anything electrical? ,,.. i,m not to sure about this as there are electrical things all over the engine bay ............. so was wondering if anyone has jet washed a 16v engine and how did it work out?
-
slave that i took out was wasted ,, don,t forget to to remove the gear change/select rod mounting on top of gear box first as it stops you from removing the front bolt of the slave... { you only find this out when you have wound most of the bolt out and then run out of room and have to wind it all back in again cursing as you do }

I had a scirocco GTX on a C plate for nine years ,, and folks would always ask what it was even thought it still had its badge,s on . { I had this car for so long simply because it wouldn,t die . just kept passing m.o.t,s and starting up and working and always getting me home and then developing some minor repairable fault } since iv had my corrado ,, well im not going to go into the amount of times its been refered to as a scirocco ,, il just say its lots and lots you savy -
