  1. what does this mean?! it seems to be when i start the car with the sidelights on, ive only noticed it today, it displays -P- and resets the time and mfa and trip. i dont understand what it is, has anyone else ever experienced this? while im at it, do any other g60 owners with a standard exhaust hear a sort of ticking from the exhaust as i cant find a leak anywhere but it ticks and annoys me! one last thing, people put in a thermostat and fan thermo switch from another engine so the stat opens sooner and the car runs at a sensible temperature, what is the stat and switch from and wots the temperatures? (dont think mine has a stat in it at all at the mo so want to put a low temp one in) thanks for looking
  2. thanks lads, ill just have to get used to the fuel consumption! next problem is my exhaust, sounds a bit blowy, (a tappy kind of blow) like from a gasket but cant find where its from for the life of me, replaced all the gaskets, is it just a g60 sound? sounds like its IN the downpipe! i havent actually heard a g60 before my own one anyway so i dont know wot to expect!!! its completely standard with CAT and all!(not for long!) anyone else noticed this?

  4. i suppose it was cold this morning... (of all days to use the corrado! im used to a 57 reg fiesta with a heated front screen!!) i didnt think the charger drained that much from the engine!!! its just the first time iv used my g60 and i was expecting higher figures.
  5. well i got about 34 on the motorway which dont seem too bad but about 21- 24 on the way to work :shock: my old 8v golf used to get 30+
  6. as above, what are the most common reasons for a g60 to return crap fuel consumption whilst NOT nailing it!!! and what testing procedures are there? thanks
  7. it has now passed the MOT and i stacked up 120 miles this weekend, and OMG its amazing, i love it, i havent rele given it beans yet cos its had a charger n head rebuild, but up 2 4k it pulls like a bastud! al you lucky G60 owners out there!think i mite have some fuelling problem, im getting terrible MPG, wot do you other g60 owners get around town?
  8. so i could get one cheaper than the one on ebay then?   10. thanks mate. its taken some hard work! i rebuilt teh head and buffed everything while i was at it and smoothed off some of the casting grain in the head n inlet. i then dropped the head and dented the head surface and had to do it all again with help from a friend!!! sprayed everything silver when puttin it back together, not just sum back to black on all the pipes will sort it! i done all the work myself as im a mechanical engineer which is lucky, and the charger was interesting to see inside n that, got some pics somewhere ill find them later, all the bits layed out!! it failed the MOT on the top mounts and a seized rear calliper, bit bummed really as the top mounts arent that bad and i wanted to do the work at work but now cant drive it to work :(

  12. couple of questions, just wondering if anyone can help out... 1. after rebuilding my charger i wanted to see how much oil was comin from the oil return line on the charger to see that oil was getting thru, but at idle it just kinda dribbles out, i was expecting more like pi**ing out, does any1 with a fully working g60 know if this is ok? 2. my oil smells of petrol too, could this be the idle valve as on cold start the car sometimes splutters as it starts up before correcting itself and idling fine, could this be flooding it and putting petrol in the oil? could it also be anything to do with the fact taht the car isnt being driven anywhere at the mo, just started up every weeek or 2? thanks in advance

    where can i get on VAGCOM to test my ABS probs thats not vw and doesnt charge silly money?! thanks
  14. just wondering if theres any way of testing the ABS system without goin to VW to go on vagcom or woteva? im gonna take off the sensors and see if thers anything obvious and wire brush em up etc but im not too hopeful about that. any help would be apreciated. :)

  17. i know its an old one but i cant find it easily on search and i havent much time. anyway my clutch occasionally sticks down on my g60 even tho i have bled it out the master cylinder and slave many times and it seemed ok. which cylinder is it likely to be? how can i tell? does it make a diff that its been sat a long time? where can i get the cylinders from other than vw? are they any good? and one more; do i have to take out hte box to change the slave? thanks for looking
  18. hey thanks for the advice, the car was sitting for like 3 years prior to me doing this, i used a paperclip to poke into the slave with the nipple out and it flowed out like a beauty, all bled now thanks. shud be on the road in no time. p.s. i like ur display pic, i have a karmann hardon laptop too, giggle to myself everytime i see it... (child)

  20. put me new callipers and pads on all round today n me g60 and bled them all thru, when i went onto bleeding the clutch, nothing came out of either bleed niples. is there a trick with this or wot? i tried pressure bleeding and manual bleeding, open-push down clutch, close-raise clutch, neither had ANY fluid coming out. i even tried takin the nipples out to clear them out, one was blocked but i unblocked it. any help would be appreciated. thanks
  21. there was a gathering of oil in the baffle box and all the pipes have an oily lining. what shall i use to clean this out and the intercooler? also, if i remove the boost return pipe, block it off at the charger and put in a breather filter for the return, do i need a oil catch tank and ptfe lube spray? thanks for your time
  22. hi i have just taken my g-lader out and have noticed there must be an oil leak in it (have not split it open yet) i can see oil in the pipes outbound from the charger and wondered what you would advise to clean out the pipes and intercooler. i was thinkin engine degreaser/ carb cleaner? (anyone need any info on servicin the G-lader i used http://www.matey-matey.com/g60-rebuild-article.shtml but feel free to aask anything. it was very easy to get out)
