  1. this does look exactly like the recess trim off a mk3 golf boot lid shut, the bit you grab when the boot is open to pull it shut. Ive borrowed my dads over the weekend and it looks exactly the same as that part.
  2. are those kits that set off smoke machines in your car legal? that could be a good way to go. I would have thought anything that happens to a theif or twoc'er when theyre inside a car that isnt theirs is legal?? knowing this country tho.....youd prob get longer in the slammer than them.
  3. can you match up anywhere in the car thats got a joint between the smooth and textured plastic? might help narrow it down a bit.
  4. 15 Gallon?? are there 2 diff sizes of f. tank on G60's? I cant seem to squeeze much over £40 in mine and that puts the needle past the 12 gallon marker. I average 25 mpg, but on days where i give it a blip every now and then gettin more like 20mpg. I went from leicester to Bradford and back with 4 ppl, bags and a tent and it cost me about £55. They aint economical by any standards but that isnt so bad. I can get it to do about 35mpg if i drive like a valiumed grandma
  5. I heard a story somewhere that someone left one out over night under a maple tree and when they came out in the morning quite a few leaves had fallen on the bonnet. When they went to clear them off the leaves had left marks and impressions all over the body, think its aluminium? so they got a nice leaf motif delorean. Horrible car, but there are worse.... Mk1 ford focus saloon for example. :pukeright:
  6. would the spoiler make much difference to fuel consumption on a long journey sat at 70mph? Would be nice if you could manually overide it at any speed. Would also be nice to have a 'one touch' up and down function aswell instead of holding the bleedin switch in for 3-4 seconds while driving. Its good for getting it half mast, but as stated it doesnt really go that far up in the air anyway!
  7. bad news....looks like im getting a company car instead of cash. This means the rado will soon be up for sale......
  8. yeah, they are saying that rather than give me car they would give me the salary increase equivalent as ppl on the same level as me in the company arent meant to have a company car. The route i had looked at is getting my own contract agreement car, but at the end of that, you still lose money and dont really have your own car. I really want to keep the rado and like you say, i may be better to get everything serviced often and to a better level than i am at the minute and run the G60 till it gives up the ghost. If i do that then i can always look for a replacement engine in the end anyway. I do like the idea of a TDi corrado, a GTTDi engine or something? had a go in a mates and it drove really nice. Im no mechanic and i need a car on the road all the while, so i cant really do an engine swap myself over time. for now i think i will take the money and maybe get the charger rebuilt and put a better intercooler/oil coller on it. Are the BBM chargers worth the money? Ive read that theyre more reliable. Maybe could go 16v head route aswell? Id like to tune it up with the extra money but i also want to make it a bit more reliable if i can. I do look after the engine as best i can and the major problems ive had have been electrical, but they should be all fixed now.
  9. Ive been told that as part of work reviews i will be entitled to a company car. The latest news ive heard is that i could be getting the cash added on to my salary to get myself a car, but there are no restrictions on what i can get so long as i insure it for work purposes :D I was going to sell my G60 and choose something like a civic typeR, but if im getting cash instead then im toying with the idea of keeping the rado and spending some dosh on making it a bit more reliable. I cant see the G60 engine lasting long with the mileage id be doing for work as its got 134k on at the min. Can anyone recomend a fairly inexpensive engine swap, 1.8t maybe? and somewhere that could do a drive in drive out sort of thing? Its just an option im looking at but id love to have a company rado! Any comments wud be much appreciated. sam
  10. Tis a nice looking car. Id dewiper the back aswell, would make it look smooth as! anthracite wheels would look great aswell :D
  11. If it were me Id refurb the wheels and not paint em white. Maybe be better to sell those and get some new whites? Nice car tho, Id maybe go for a black debadged grille aswell if it were me :D
  12. cool. Might see you around Derby 1 day then, have you got it on the road yet? I work near the train station and use my G' everyday.
  13. I got a lindsey davies (?) one off the bay for a few quid. it covers fwd VW's up to 2002 so was good for my dads golf aswell. not as good as other manuals but alot of good info in there. Doesnt cover G60's though :(
  14. I had loads of electrical probs 2 months ago. Almost everything just gave up at the same time and that was after id been through the car wash the day before. Had it all checked over and it was earth fault probs and inline fuses. I was stumped cos id checked all the ones in the dash. I wouldnt be able to tell you how to fix any though as i got a mechanic to do it. Not got the knowledge, time or patience for car electrics. Im guessing theres a logical sequence to test everything but i wudnt know where to begin.
  15. when mine rotted through and sheared i fitted a 2.0 16v one. They are the same dont worry :D
  16. Mine was a D reg mk2 fiesta in hearing aid beige. a mighty 957cc engine, 1 wing mirror as standard and it was in poor condition when i got it. My mates dad gave it to me as my mate never passed his test and it was used to store his older sisters junk in while she was at uni. It hadnt been run for 4 years and was covered in moss! I picked it up on a trailer with my grandad on a new years day when it was snowing like crazy and spent ages defrsoting the exhaust in the garage. It only had 34k on the clock, sold it for £100 aswell :)
  17. I got one of these when i bought my car. Its a great key ring and i wind my GF up constantly by drivin it up and down her kitchen table like a 5 yr old
  18. Ive seen a 2lt 8v nova coversion with NOS at RTTS a fwe years ago, but it didnt look as stealth as that thing!! I think wheelspin would be a major issue tho, the guy with the nova cudnt use the nos unless he was on motorway in 4th!!! respect tho, that was a cool vid
  19. nah its been sat at home till this morning. Borrowed a mk3 golf off my dad in the meantime. Its been driven id say about 8 miles including getting it to the garage so hopefully no major probs with heat etc. will let you know what damage is uncovered.
  20. Hi. Are you sure its the subframe? I had to replace the subframe on my G in January as it had sheared near the steering arm and basically the whole thing fell off. Driveshaft came out, wheel went crunching under the arch and got stuck between the top of the arch and the rear of the front arch. Was stuck for 2 hours in the middle of the road. Id get it done asap if i were you!! I had trouble locating one and got told lots of diff stories from breakers and VW. breakers were saying any would fit apart from a VR, VW told me it had to be from a rado or golf G60 or a rallye. A VW breaker in Derby assured me that a 16v one would fit and i picked one up off him with anti roll bar for £25 and got a local garage to fit it. They had no problems doing it and it took them half a day. Most of them are a bit rusty by now so id check yours thoroughly and if its shot then look out for a solid one but i wouldnt be too bothered about cosmetics. shave any surface rust off it and give it a good lick of paint as I did and you should get some more years out of it. alternatively, and much more expensively, VW will get one for you but they have to come from Germany and are I think about £270 exc VAT. This put me off quite a bit so I went for the quick fix. Let us know how you get on. cheers sam
  21. Yeah GSF sell a metal one for about £30. Had a look and a new Head Gasket set for the G60 is £85-90. Hopefully its not warped as its not been run hot since i noticed it starting to boil coolant and i always keep 2 ltrs of water in the boot just in case. fingers crossed........ :thumb right: thanks
  22. hmmmm... Ive had the G sitting at home for 2 days and its going the garage in the morning to be looked over and fixed. It was using loads of coolant since ive noticed the idle problems and steam coming out the exhaust, but i thought that would have been cos it was bein boiled up in the head and going out the exhaust. Its really lumpy on low rpm and is making a tappety noise so i gather it is head gasket failure? I drove it home the other day, topped the coolant up again and left it cos i knew i couldnt get it looked at till the wkend. Checked it again today to see if it would still start ok and the header tank is empty again after being left standing. Ive checked all the pipework and cant see any leaks or puddles on the driveway. Does anyone know if it may be something else? Id assumed head gasket but not sure if it could be something else now? cheers sam
  23. Thats great. Thanks alot for the advice as I think I will be buying up alot of the bits for him to do the job over the weekend while I am away. Im sure this will save him time when it comes to doing it. Im undecided on whether to get rid after this, my head is telling me to get rid but in all honesty I could buy something and have exactly the same happen. There cant be much else to go wrong with it surely???!!!! Its had all the lectrics overhauled, a new front subframe and drive shafts, charger rebuilt by Jabba, ISV cleaned out, both door handle levers replaced with better items, sunroof and spoiler have been checked over and lubed up.... spose there is always the heater matrix :( Again, many thanks. sam
  24. Just had my G60 back from garage after all the electrics failed in one day! Luckily the guy fixing it was very good and got it all working for me. Lots of earth faults, dry joints and blown fuses etc. Before it went to the garage for the electricals, i topped it up with coolant / oil. My old man picked it up for me as i was at work and said'ive put some water in it for you as it was about empty'...which was weird as it id only been bout 30 miles. So it looks like head gasket has gone, very lumpy idle (water in the cyclinder causing a misfire?), using water like petrol, little puffs of steam out the back every now and then. Has anyone had this fixed before? Any idea if its a big job or expensive? Been told that it might not be that bad as its a fairly simple head to work on and its not really been run sinceits gone. any advice would be great. This is the 3rd major thing in 6 months so I think I will get it fixed and let it go to a new owner. Its a great car, but my bank manager isnt too keen on a major repair every 2 months!!! cheers sam
