Brawn vs ferrari.... 1-0 1-0, 1-0, 1-0!

I'm not saying it ever has been. It would just be better if it was. Pie in the sky maybe.... -

Alreet? When have I ever been biased? Anyway, like Yanders says imagine the faff of redesigning a gear box after the season has started. Personally I think they are within their rights to complain. For the good of the sport I hope they rule that the diffuser is legal and all the other teams (especially Ferrari but not necessarily McLaren) put them on their cars to make the playing field more level. Which I thought was supposed to be the point of this season anyway. Or the other way round. They are illegal, they get taken off the Brawn, Williams and Toyota cars but they get to keep their points and we can just concentrate on the damn racing for once! -
Don't worry mate. It's only a matter of time before something else breaks!

Thought I'd close the head gasket saga with some pics. Gave it a wash today as it was really dusty from sitting in the garage for so long. Still think it's a really nice mk2. :D A list of what I did to it: New head gasket New cylinder head bolts Cylinder head skimmed New cylinder head flanges New Exhaust manifold gaskets New intake manifold gasket New cam cover gasket Flushed coolant system and replaced coolant New oil and filter New cam belt New tensioner pulley And replaced loads of nuts and bolts that were past it Also here is a picture of the Rado back in its rightful place.

IIRC they outsold the 1.8 valver.

Cheers guys. :D Frankly it shouldn't have been that much of a faff but at least it's sorted now. I've learned some valuable lessons. Well, onto the next job now. Finally going to fit those Weitecs to my G60. I can't handle (pun intended) that sh!tty set up (lowered on springs with standard shocks) that's on there at the moment any longer!

At least I'm the right sex again now.

Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!
Sonicriot13 replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
Another thing is where I work our cheapest new car is 6795. So someone comes in with their B reg sh!tter and gets their cheque for 2k. Lovely. Now there's just the small matter of where they're going to get the other 4795. Oh no wait, finance. Which is one of the main reasons we're in the mess we're in. -
 These names are getting a bit abstract. Is Selina even real or have you made that up?

Well, thanks to one last effort and some comedy engine timing it works!   I tried to turn the dizzy using all my might but it just wouldn't budge. So I took the cam belt off and timed the crank shaft pulley with the intermediate sprocket and the rotor arm was still out. I just turned the rotor arm so that it was at TDC but the intermediate sprocket and crank pulley were out of alignment with each other, put the belt back on, tensioned it up, turned the engine by hand to make sure all was well and hey presto it is spot on now. When I first started it up I only had three cylinders (probably a bit choked up) but I took it for a little run and it sorted itself out and it's now smooth as anything. I don't think a car that doesn't have a Corrado badge on the back has ever put that big a smile on my face! Thank fook! :D :D :D I'm just putting a guide together entitled "How to change a head gasket the hard way by Sonicriot13". Thanks to everyone for their help. As I keep saying I couldn't have done it without you lot! :D

Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!
Sonicriot13 replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
Exactly, so when "Friends" of the Earth say they welcome the scrappage scheme they obviously haven't thought it through at all. They should be encouraging people to hold onto the cars that they have for as long as possible now. And so far nobody has said what they plan to do with the cars that are traded in. I assume they will all be crushed as part of the whole idea of this is to take older cars off the road and it is called a scrappage scheme after all. I suppose in the short term more scrappies will start pooping up but when the market for scrap gets flooded and they can no longer support themselves we will have to subsidise the scrap industry as well. -
Well, it looks as though despite the fact that myself and every other car salesman I know is rushed off their feet with enquiries coming out of their ears the government sees fit to offer 2k for every car traded in over 9 years old for a new or nearly new vehicle. I don't really get it. And they are going under the "green" banner with it too which is ridiculous. Yes, a new car may be more fuel efficient and less polluting than an older one. But what about the waste and pollution produced when making the components for the new car, the waste and pollution produced during assembly and the waste and pollution of shipping that car from the factory half way across the world to us (you simply would not believe the sh!t that comes out of those big container ships, I read another report today stating that pollution from shipping is killing 39,000 a year in Europe and that one ship produces the same amount of pollution in a year as 50 million cars). And then there will be the local environmental damage caused by storing and disposing of all those scrap cars. And what about the impact on scrap prices? I was really hoping this wasn't going to happen but as is usually the case my optimism has gone unrewarded. Even though it would probably work out really good for me as we'll be getting a lot more people through the door how many perfectly serviceable cars are going to be wasted just so the industry can carry on levels of production that are obviously unsustainable? I don't understand why we have to subsidise everything all the time. Things change and businesses go under. It's a fact of life however sad it may be and unfortunate for the people that get laid off.

 Oh, that's what it said. The font was so small I could barely read it. Just joking. You know I only have eyes for you.

Corrado- Best Buy in Classic Cars issue 430
Sonicriot13 replied to HiAsAKite's topic in General Car Chat
Also make sure any mods are high quality and done with sympathy towards the original design and engine etc. People always ask me if I want to get more power out of my car or am I going to get a smaller pulley blah, blah, blah. What I would want to do more than anything else is get my car as close to how it was the day it came out of the factory as possible. Unfortunately I haven't the time, money or expertise! -

Yeah, the Corrado will gain in value again. One of the reasons I don't want to faff with my engine. Not that I've got anything at all against that sort of thing I just think the more standard cars will hold their value better. -

Cool, my car is pretty original. No engine mods at all and could be put back to factory spec with a set of BBS wheels and suspension. So with that in mind I'd like £6250 please.
