Oh yeah, that's a good point. On the mk2 and early mk3 they never galvanized the tailgate so they are obvioulsy very prone to rust. Um, I'm seeing a pattern.... Rust, basically just look for rust!

That looks like a nice project you've got there. :D It's bringing back memories of my last one. I really wouldn't worry about your English. You write it a lot better than some English people I know!

The valvers are 256 same as rado up front. I may be wrong but the 8v I think had 239s. All mk2 GTis that I've seen have been discs all round.

Hello Noah, welcome to the forum! :D The G60 corrado is not only the greatest corrado but also the greatest volkswagen. Hopefully one day you will inherit your fathers when he is too old to drive it anymore. You may or may not want to get it resprayed white....

Defo check underneath the thing. Last mk2 I bought looked mint until you looked underneath. There was so much corrosion it was unreal. The wish bone on the passenger side had fused with the ball joint into one big lump of rust. I couldn't bleed the brakes at the front because the bleed valves just rounded off. I would check the front calipers are in good nick. Wish bones and ball joints are easy to replace. Other than that the engines in mk2s are surprisingly indestructible in my experience. The 8 valve GTi in particular is bullet proof. And if they do go wrong they are laughably easy to work on. Even for me! As for service intervals and things just get a Haynes off of ebay mate.

Nooooooooooooo! :( :( :( Mate I'm gutted for you. I'm sure one day you will have another though.

Think you might be referring to the steering column height adjustment dealy bob mate. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum and corrado ownership! :thumbleft: I thought it was the steering column height adjusment oojimaflip. Bonjour, welcome and get some pics up! Sorry, I stand corrected!

Yeha, how rusty is your corrado gonna be after that length of time!

£900 excess! Oh mate, that sounds terrible. The other thing is if you claim your insurance company will most likely write it off. :( :( :(

Hey buddy, welcome to the forum. I have a rado G60 and it's not even a particularly mint example and I love the engine! Love mk1s too. Would be great to see some pics mate. I've never tuned one but some people do get some silly figures out of them.

Be long since out of petrol by then. :( :( Tis true. Oh well, I'll have to do a conversion to whatever sort of engine we'll be using then. Hope it's something I can still supercharge. :D

That's awesome. I'd like to still be driving the G60 when I'm 84. I think I'm also gonna need some tips on myself making it to the age of 84.... :?

That's a classic! Um, I think this is still my most embarrassing one: Hit the wall on the way out of my girlfriend's drive. :? Falling asleep at the wheel.... I think bodged repair wise it would have to be when draining coolant on the valver when I was doing the head gasket I positioned my receptacle underneath the pipe at the bottom of the radiator where I thought the coolant would come out. I then disconnected the pipe only to find the coolant spewing out of the pipe itself and not the actual radiator. It was going everywhere. In the ensuing struggle I managed to knock the container over and coolant just went everywhere. I was hosing the drive way down for ages.... I'm going to hell for that. All those pollutants. :?

This is definately the nicest forum I've ever been on. And I'm not just saying that. I think the atmosphere around here is a lot more mature than onthers I've been on. Maybe because most of us are at an age were insuring a group 16+ car is not an impossibility. Also it's a lot less cliquey. You just get the same few people talking to each other on other forums and everyone else just gets ignored or abused. Here everyone talks to everyone.

Sorry to go completely off topic but just noticed your sig G60SC_Stoney. You might be getting a 60s 'stang? Good lad! :D Me and the girlfriend have been looking at getting one of those for ages.

Think I'm pretty much in same boat as you. I do entertain the idea of selling the G60 sometimes but they don't last long. It is going to take a lot of time and effort, but mostly money, to get my corrado into decent shape but it'll so be worth it. And a white corrado sat in a car park full of black and blue boring cars just stands out and looks so awesome. :D
-
Er, it's not quite on the brink yet mate. Getting there though.... :?
-
Hey buddy, welcome to the forum! :D Looks a nice car. Glad you lost those wheels though. Must say it's good to see somebody else keeping theirs standard. Good luck with the engine rebuild.

Tailgating is worse than just speeding. If you don't leave enough space to stop it doesn't matter how fast you are going. I find that in my corrado, and I used to get it in my GTI as well, a lot of people just seem so desperate for you to notice them.

1 rusty brown one :) Good, that's all it deserves.

How many stars has the ford probe got?

It would be all right if they only hurt themselves. Then I wouldn't have a problem with them doing that. They can take themselves out of the gene pool for all I care. It's the fact that they are putting other people at risk.

PMSL!

Well, it still needs a lot of work. It has been an awesome learning curve. It's the first time I've done a head gasket on such a big engine. I've only ever done one before and that was on a 1.3 mk2. At least if I sell now I'm just about gonna break even on it before it turns into one of those projects that just goes on and on. Plus it's time I got on with the G60, I need as much money as I can for that at the moment. The G60 has got to be my main focus now. I've neglected things on it because of the black one that I need to sort out. It's obviously trying to draw those to my attention. :D Hence sell the valver, get something that hopefully won't need anything doing to it, he says, that is cheaper to insure, and get the G60 wicked for next summer. It probably is the thermo but I reckon that's gonna be the least of my worries....
