I bought my G60 with no history at all. Just some MOTs to back up the mileage as it was quite low at 114k. But compared to the price some G60s were going for at the time I bought it the bloke was giving it away. And apart from the fresh air blower breaking (now fixed courtesy of Toad sending me a replacement motor) I've needed to do nothing to it and it's been an absolute joy. Obviously it has it's little quirks. Like for some reason it doesn't like running on 95 as I have just found out. Put some 97 back in and it's fine again now. Anyhow, my point is I doubt having a service history would have prevented my fresh air blower from going. It is now getting to the point though that some things need replacing but just the usaual service parts. I think for you buddy it's a question of confidence. If you need a service history for piece of mind then you need to find a car that has one. That's a lot of money to spend on something you're not entirely comfortable with.

:( Another one goes to VR6 heaven :( - Or does it?

Yeah man, the main thing is you're not hurt. If you need any insurance advice drop us a PM. Joe -
Saw two side by side in the Audi dealership in Bury St Edmonds at the weekend. Absolutely lovely. I'd have one in a second if I had the money. Needless to say while I was walking around them having a good look none of the sales execs came out and asked if I needed any help.... obvioulsy I don't meet their demographic.

Now that I have to commute from Stowmarket to Ipswich every day I have to say the people that hold me up the most are 40 something men in people carriers. They always get my undertakingometer in the red. They just refuse to let me past. Jealous because their lives have past them by and I'm still young and enjoying my little coupe. Well I would be if they'd get out of the f*cking way! :D I don't get it really. If someone pulls up behind me at outside lane motorway speeds in a 911 turbo or something I just pull in and let them past. They have a faster car than me therefore they get to travel faster. What am I going to get out of holding them up?
-
Hmmm... Well I've seen them up to 200k. Depends in what kind of condition it's in when you get it. If it's good you could have another 7 years average. And the 9A engine is well easy to work on. I managed to change a head gasket on one not so long ago. So it must be easy.... Edit: obviously that's seven years assuming nothing else packs up first.

Cheers Tom, I'm about to overhaul the dizzy and plugs etc. Been a hell of a wait for parts with those postal strikes. Will check for that. On a similar sort of note could the timing be out if it's skipped some teeth or something? Although if the engine timing was out surely the octane number wouldn't make any difference to that? I have also noticed the idle speed has decreased after putting the 95 in. Good thing I've got the next 3 days off....

Hmmm.... that may be a possibility for me as well I suppose. But would you chip a G60 and leave the pulley and everything else standard? I know nothing about my car's history really. Other than one of the previous owners couldn't park very well. :? I know my car as it has been since I got it in April though and it's not the same car I drove to work this morning.

Excellent, and I'm going to miss it all because I'm at work until six. :(

10 yrs on and I still don't want any other car
Sonicriot13 replied to storm_warning's topic in General Car Chat
I know buddy. If I got offered the job (still waiting to hear if I've got through to the next interview stage, will find out next week) I'd be a ravening fool not to take it just because of a rickety old G60, but it will still be hard to part with it though. And if I did get the job I could actually properly afford to run one, and get it to the standard I want. So it would all work out in the end. :D -
My G60 is running 15s at the moment. I quite like the way they look. Well, I would if they weren't so scuffed.
-
No, apart from some custom dent work it's all standard. Maybe it's just something to do with the fact that she's getting on in years now. Maybe she just got too used to the good stuff. I do spoil it. I should hopefully be doing some servicing over the next week. Maybe it's all just a coincidence and when I go to have a proper look I'm going to find something wrong....

I always run the G60 on 97 just for the fun of it really. Plus I don't like the sound of engine knocking much. But do they affect performance? I pulled into a station the other day desperate for fuel and there was only regular 95. It just seems to have made the world of difference. For the worse. It sounds terrible and it's not pulling anywhere near as well as it did. It seems like it's struggling. I can't wait to run out so I can fill it up with 97 again. My girlfriend says this is all in my head. I don't think it is. What are your experiences?

I don't need to be reading this at the moment. Despite my sig's statement regarding dying before I'd get rid I'm facing a gut wrenching, heart melting situation at the moment. I'm looking into starting a new career in the motor industry and recently went for an interview with Renault. The job sounds fantastic and I'd really love it. However, they would be sending me away for 3 - 6 months training and during this time the pay is shocking. Having just moved into my first house with my girlfriend there's just no way keeping the Rado would be a viable option. I'm struggling as it is now. I'd need to sell the Rado to make up the short comings in my income whilst I trained. It's awful. I know it's only a car and I'd be getting a truly excellent career opportunity in return. After training I'd be given a company car but it's still so difficult. I've wanted a Corrado since the very first moment I saw one burning past on the M25 on my way to Wales in my mk3 TDi golf about four years ago. And the G60 is my first one. For someone like myself who has a real passion for cars giving up the best car you've ever owned is not easy. And there is nothing I'd rather have that I could afford. Other wise the Rado would have been sold already. :( -
For anyone who has no idea about engine mechanics!

Yes, this book is awesome. They've just bought out volume 3 as well. There are some good diagrams of Bosch injection systems that are pretty useful for the likes of us. :D -

You'd be welcome to mine mate but the paint is shocking at the moment. Mind you I hope it would be sorted by august next year! 8) You're so lucky. My partner wants to go to the wedding in a Mustang GT. Fine by me really but I'd rather it was a Rado. -
Hello mate, Welcome to the forum. With regards rust in my experience Corrados appear to be a lot better than mk2 golfs at least. I know how you feel, I planted my mk3 square in the rear of a Ford Galaxy. Not funny! I'd go for a VR6. I've owned loads of Golfs and always thought that was the car for me until I drove my G60.... :D

VW's 'R' branding just went down in my estimation!

Yeah, I suppose it's possible.... But that still makes me feel sorry for them.... -

The reason people buy SUVs is because they are not important. And they know it. That's why they need a middle management position and a big car to feel important. They can't deal with the fact they are an ordinary person like everyone else. So they hide behind their job and their car because those things make them higher than other people, and they feel they have some kind of influence and authority. Trust me, there's loads of these guys in the insurance industry. But I kinda feel sorry for them in a way. There's a guy where I work. He has the most pointless "find this jumped up little goit something to do so he doesn't mess up anything important" management job, and he walks around the office like he's god's gift. But, he does 12 hour days every day trying to cover up his incompetence, his girlfriend now has to bring his daughter into the office because she never sees him, he sits there talking to himself, and he gets bent over by the managers above him. He is not a happy person. He has no life. And guess what he drives.... -
Looks good. 8) And you have a nice big drive way to play around on.

You could buy a fleet of Fiat 500s for 70 grand. -
Nout wrong with that mate.

Ever wonder how your car was from the factory?
Sonicriot13 replied to Alexander's topic in General Car Chat
I've wondered this about every car I've ever had. I would have just loved to have driven the G60 without the little voice in the back of my head telling me that it's a 16 year old car with little to no service history.... -
Who bids on these... things???
-
Welcome to the forum! :D I thought I was bad having owned 1 mk2, 2 mk3s, a mk4 polo, and 2 corrados in the last year. Now down to just the one corrado again. The G60. The one I'm going to keep forever/until it explodes. Whichever comes soonest.... :?

That is not a matter of opinion. That is just terrible. The fact that there is one human being on this planet that would think that was a good idea is surprising enough. I'd be even more surprised if there was anyone else.
