  1. Driving home this evening and waiting for the crappy condensation to clear (I really must check the scuttle for leaves soon) I was waiting at the lights with the blower on full, lights, radio & rear demister, when suddenly the engine simply died and the lights went out. I couldn't turn the motor over again until I'd killed the blower and lights, and after that it was fine, BUT the heater has stopped working. I can hear a difference in the noise the blower makes when I turn the centre dial from cold to hot, but it makes sod all difference to the actual results coming out of the grilles, and I was wondering whether anyone else had bumped into this before, and whether I should check the fusebox before I start looking for a heater matrix. Is this a known issue, or have I just been unlucky. Of course it would happen jsut as they're talking about a cold snap. Grrr.
  2. My greater worry is why both units - the original and (apparently) its replacement died. it's either an unlucky coincidence or something beyond the instrument panel is causing it. That said, you wouldn't know the part number, would you?
  3. I'm on my second instrument panel and I'm deeply narked... When I bought my Corrado a year ago the coolant temperature gauge wasn't working (temp on zero and flashing warning light) but everything else was behaving fine and so I didn't worry about it. However, I found a decent second hand instrument panel on eBay and bought it, only to discover that this one didn't work either. And yes, I did replace the temperature sender, check the fuses and wiring - my local garage tells me that the unit in the panel is burned out, and that this is a common issue with Golf/Corrado instrument panels. Grr! Annoyingly, I don't know anyone else locally with a Corrado that I can try my instrument panel on. Has anyone else bumped into this problem? I do wonder if there's something causing the burnout, but I'm buggered if I can work out what it is. Cheers
  4. PM me if you want his mobile number. It's from last year, but it may still be good.
  5. Already tried email - he hasn't responded.
  6. Regrettably I'm suffering from the same problem with the same supplier about the same part. andy_vw came back on to the thread at the back end of last year with apologies and excuses, and I was one of a few who took him at his word and PayPal'ed the funds to him for one of his wiring looms. From what I've read they are excellent, and I was willing to give him another chance. However, there's now been a deafening silence for a couple of months, he's not picking up his PMs and emails to his NTL address are going unanswered. A real shame - I'm in the process of opening a dispute with PayPal, although I'm not overly optimistic. Has anyone come across andy_vw recently? PMs on this forum aren't being collected and I still haven't heard from him, so this issue is still unresolved. PayPal didn't want to know and I'm guessing that the other members who paid up front for the mythical wiring looms have also been stiffed. I got mine eventually from KUR2Y and I'm very happy with them, but dealing with andy_vw has been a real disappointment. Do any of the mods know him? Cheers
  7. I had my Corrado serviced last week so I gave my new loom to the mechanic and he fitted it for me. Went in fine and works excellently - the lights are at least 50% brighter.
  8. Shame you're not local - it would have been good if I could have looked over your shoulder while you were doing yours! Anyone near Watford got one of these?
  9. Just received my loom from KUR2Y and will be fitting it over the weekend. Looks very good from a first glance... Cheers.
  10. yes , no worries mate.......do you mean actual paper? or put it on a word document? let me know what you want exactly and i'll be happy to help. Why don't you put something here? The plan is to create a single point of reference for addressing a specific symptom, so your input would be very valuable.
  11. Would you be willing to put a few words down on paper so we can update the appropriate section of this draft Knowledgebase Article?
  12. I hope so, although I've been emailing him with that request for several weeks with no response... Oh really?? :?[/quote:304mwkx6] Yup. I sent him a PM on the 1st March which is uncollected, emailed his ntlworld address on the 7th and 20th, and tried his own .co.uk address about 3 days ago. Deafening silence all round.
  13. I hope so, although I've been emailing him with that request for several weeks with no response...

  15. Many thanks (although I think you mean ntlworld.com). Interestingly, a PM to him from the beginning of February hasn't been picked up, so I do wonder whether there's more to this than his simply keeping a low profile. Hope he's OK.
  16. OK, you've got to account for the fact that I'm vaguely competent with a spanner, but not much. My Corrado has dents in both doors, and rather than getting them resprayed, I'm looking at sourcing colour-matched replacements and simply bunging them in. So, just how complex is this, and might there be a guide to getting this done which is understandable for the average Joe? Ta muchly.
  17. Has anyone spoken to Andy-vw recently? He seems to have disappeared and I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning that they knew him outside this forum. I'm guessing that there are several people who've sent him money for the loom and am assuming that, like me, they haven't seen any refunds...
  18. Yes OK, thanks. I'll get in touch with him and have a chat.
  19. James makes his looms with the correct specification fuses, relays, wires and connectors so the answer to your question would have to be yes they are good looms. Sorry to be dumb, but is James the guy whose ebay link you provided earlier?
  20. Just been looking through your past posts but not found what you mention. James makes more than one type of loom so i'de like to know what anyone finds questionable and try and quash any fears. Just a few side comments to avoid eBay looms. So, what's the consensus - does this guy make good looms?
  21. It was this eBay listing that prompted me to post here asking whether this type of loom was any good, and the reply came back that they were questionable. I'd be delighted to be corrected...
  22. I'm interested, but of course I'm interested in the other one too, and I'm not sure what the differences are. Since there are now two potential makers, and on the assumption that you guys aren't likely to be planning to retire on the proceeds, might it be wise for you to chat to each other and see if there's value in you working together? I'm not sufficiently technically aware enough to understand the relative merits of one over another - I just want a simple, plug-and-go solution that gives me decent light at the sharp end of my Corrado (for both normal and high beam). So my preference would be a single agreed solution and I can just PayPal the dosh as appropriate. Cheers!
  23. I think you'll find LOTS of interest from everyone on this thread and it'll be for the double circuit. My name at the top of the list, please!!! Put me on the list too if you're willing to put some time into this! My preference would be for an externally mounted kit.
